I went to turn it on this morning, I just had a black screen showing the following words;
Press F2 to run
Press F11 to boot menu
Auto detecting PRI Master Atapai CDROM.
It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.

The other night I was in a rush and I held down the power button until it shut off. the next day I tryed turning it on and after the MB homepage came up for 3 secs on the top left hand corner of the screen it said "Disk boot failure, please insert boot disk and press enter" so i fooled around with the priority settings a little bit and nothing worked. I then inserted the windows vista CD and it would say "Loading windows files" then the loading bar came up and it would always freeze at the same point and after about a minute a blue screen came up saying a problem occured and is shutting off the computer to prevent further damage. Iv tryed everything. could my hard drive be damaged or something? Please someone help me. I cant work with much because i cant even get into windows! :-( All i can work with is the Setup menu

I have a new computer with Vista HP x64. I have a problem somewhere which is stopping a successful boot - the screen hangs following the 'PCI Devices Listing. I have tried to re-boot from the original installation CD and I can hear the disk whirring but then it stops and boot-up simply hangs.
I want to go back to square one and re-format my hard disk and start again, but I don't know how to do this, because I don't know how to move past the point at which the boot stalls.

My eSATA drives show in the BIOS boot screen but hangs on the Vista drivers loading bard or just beyond on the black screen before the Windows logo. If I restart without the eSATA device connected/powered up Vista loads normally and if I then switch on/plug in the eSATA drive it is not recognised by windows anywhare. I have looked in disk management in the admin folder and the drive is not there.

As you can see on another thread I am having trouble with one of our two laptops sending and receiving emails.
Both laptops have the same OS (Vista Home Premium), AVG 8.0 and use Windows Mail for emails.
One cannot send/receive emails due to the incoming mail server timing out. The outgoing mail server was changed just before the problem arose and the AVG was reinstalled when it developed a fault after automatically updating.
It has been suggested that I use "Run" and then "telnet mail.xxxxx.co.uk 110" to check the connection. However I cannot get any meaningful output as the "black" screen that should appear with the results only remains on view for a fraction of a second.
(Just as athought it took me ages to find Run - why is Vista so much less simple to use than XP?)
I see from Windows Help that I could use winrs instead but when I try to use "winrs /?"
I get no useful output due to the black screen staying for so short a time.

I changed the Boot sequence to CD first, then HDD. Everything ran fine and vista seemingly loaded perfectly. After moving some files from my backup drive back onto my main one and installing some drivers, I was asked to restart my computer (for the drivers) so I did. Remembering that the boot sequence was still set on CD first, and since my driver CD was still in the drive, I decided to set the boot sequence back to the way I had it with XP: HDD and then CD. After doing this I quit BIOS and tried to boot, but I kept getting a message saying: DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
So I restarted the computer again, this time with my Vista CD in the drive, and again, the computer wouldn't boot and told me to enter a boot disk. Not knowing what to do, I went back into BIOS and changed the boot sequence back to CD first, then HD. After doing this, and restarting with the Vista CD in the drive, my computer booted up with no problems whatsoever. I tried reinstalling Vista (twice), reformatting the target hard drive, changing the boot sequence around, pretty much everything I could think of......

The CPU fan works fine I can see it spin and adjust the fan speed from a panel that comes with it but for some reason when I boot up my computer it tells me CPU fan error and press F1 to continue.I assume because the fan is still working this is not a problem but should I be worried.

Here's the deal. I've been working on this laptop for a client for 3 days now, and I swear I've read every forum out there, so I apologize in advance for any headaches I may cause here. As the title says, it's an Acer 6930 with Vista Home Premium. When I boot to normal mode, it gets to the 'Welcome' screen, and the little spinning circle just sits and spins. The client said they actually let it sit like that for 2 days and it still did nothing. Boot to safe mode - BSOD, generally with 'Page Fault in Non Paged Area', but sometimes others as well. (Sorry I did not jot any of them down).
Boot to BartPE thumb drive - 'remove media and press any key to restart' Boot into 'repair your computer' - Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically. If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Hardware tests pass - memory and hard drive both come up clean.
Client doesn't have the Vista install disk, so I tried to D/L one last night, and apparently I got a bad image, because even in my other machine, the dvd is showing empty, so I am SOL on a Vista disk until I try to D/L another. I've checked out several forums as I said, and followed a lot of their instructions to no avail. I have also had the drive out and hooked to another machine, and ran Malwarebytes on it. The scan literally took 13 hours and found nothing wrong. I have also ran chkdsk and it fixed some bad sectors, but that's about it. SFC /scannow from the recovery area/cmd prompt says there is a repair pending and that a reboot is required, and you can reboot all day long and it will always tell you that. So, grab some aspirin after reading all that, get a coffee, smoke 'em if ya got 'em, and then let me know if you have any suggestions short of a 12 gauge at 20 yards.

Almost every time I turn on my laptop and log into my account a screen comes up saying something along the lines of Thank You For Validating Windows. This takes up the whole screen and I cannot exit unless I press OK. After my desktop is fully loaded a message comes up saying that Windows Aero has stopped working, you may be a victim of counterfeiting. There is then a link which takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software. I then run the validation test and pass. Also sometimes there is a message in white writing in the corner of my desktop which says:
Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6001
This copy of Windows is not genuine. My Vista Ultimate is 100% genuine.

My problem is when I boot up my computer all I get is this "NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I can still get into bios, but that's it. I've desided to order the recovery discs for my computer to do a full system recovery, hoping that will fix it. My question is though, will the discs fix this "NTLDR is missing" thing, or will I have to fix it some other way?

About a month ago, my laptop (with vista as OS) started acting up, giving me error messages such as ?windowssystem32ootwinload.exe missing or corrupt? as well as ?windowssystem32stsem missing?. I tried everything I could in vain, and I decided to go ahead and format my hard drive, through another computer using an enclosure kit since I couldn?t even get into safe mode or any other mode without getting the error screen right away. I seemed that the problem was getting worst as I restarted my computer.
As I mentioned above, I formatted my disc, thus lost all data, hoping to be able to install a clean version of VISTA. I reinstall my hard drive in the laptop, and just to make a quick test, I started the computer without the VISTA DVD in and I got the error ?NTLDR is missing Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart?, and wondering what that was about, I looked it up on the internet, and most people seemed to say that error message was a typical windows XP type of error. But I never had XP on.......

ive been having problems with the tilde key on my Asus laptop. at first it was that it didint work at all, in games, in microsoft works, or notepad. i went searching online and disabled the driver for the eHome ir receiver (even though i dont own an ir receivers). after that i was able to use the tild key only outside of games. but heres the strange part, if i press the tild key quickly as if i were typing normaly, it dose not register. in order to use it i have to hold down the tilde key for about 1-2 seconds before it would spit out a stream of "````````````". then i could delete up to the first one. this is true for the laptops keyboard, and a wired dell keyboard i connected using usb.........

With xp you can press control/alt/delete to get a login screen up then login using the administrator account. On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

I just purchased a Toshiba A205-7464 laptop before Christmas and have been having a problem lately with the wireless internet hanging on me.
I will be online for a certain period of time, sometimes hours, sometimes 10 minutes. I will try to go to a website, not always the same one, and IE will just hang, no graphics will come up, the green bar just stops halfway through and it just hangs. I get no error page or anything but in order to get it working again, I have to reboot. It is really starting to tick me off because it is starting to happen more frequently. I have uninstalled McAfee and installed my own Security Software (CA Suite).
Here are some stats on my PC:...

I have built up a new system...been running perfectly since August 2008.
2 nights ago I had just finished an update to itunes and some other apple software which required a restart. Upon restart, the system hung while booting.didn't get to the user account log-in screen.it froze with a blackscreen with the mouse cursor sitting there in the middle.
I have done the following things and observed the following behaviour:I have not added any hardware to the system Windows Update has doing automatic updates the systems boots and runs perfectly in safe mode with networking I have reverted to a couple of different restore points prior to installing the apple software...no change I have disabled all non-Microsoft software from starting up via Windows Defender...no change I can get the system to boot to where it displays the user accounts login screen. When I click on an account and enter the password it will hang at that point. Mouse continues to respond but no further response. Disk drive light goes solid but no sound of the disk operating If at the user account log in screen I select to shut the system down it will hang during shutdown checking the event logs shows a range of various fatal errors.I can provide more info on this at later posts if needed but the messages look quite similar to other posts given for a range of different behaviours so I am not sure which if any are relevant. Booting to the Vista CD and doing a repair found no errors. In short, my perfectly happy and functioning system has suddenly gone mental for no obvious reason.

I have a recurring problem in that my computer randomly will freeze and become non responsive(though I can move the mouse during these freezes). When clicking on a link or trying to view an e-mail I get the message "Not Responsive" as I watch the Windows "circle" rotate in the middle of the screen. Usually within 15 seconds to a minute the computer again returns to usable state. It used to happen only in Windows Mail. But about two weeks ago it started happening when using other programs, IE, Firefox, etc.
My system specs are as follows:
Dell Dimension E521
Vista Home Premium 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2GHz
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 2DIMMs
256MB NVIDIA Geforce 7300LE TurboCache
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
Optiquest 19" widescreen lcd 1280 x 768
250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
Tower
Dell USB Keyboard and Dell 2-button Scroll Mouse
DSL 3.0 Mbps down 384 Kbps up
To this point I worked with Dell support to try to solve the problem. After doing a disk cleanup, removing temp files, etc. that didn't fix it, they had me perform a restore to Factory Settings. However even after doing that and reinstalling my programs and data files, the problem persists. I have tried opening Windows in safe mode and the problem doesn't occur then. BTW, there are no error messages when this occurs.

GPU BFG Nvidia 8600GTS
HD Seagate 500GB Sata
RAM 4 GB DDR2 (System only uses 3GB due to chipset lacking memory remap)
For the past year its been occasionally hanging at random - sometimes repeatedly each day, othertimes once every few days. I have run ram tests and its found nothing. Its not overheatring. The only other thing I can think of is the hard drive when I run seagates tools it cant complete the long tests but it does the short test - can anyone thing of any other diagnostics I can try.

Im running vista 64bit home premium on my acer desktop. Its been absolutly fine until today. I uninstalled a game and suddenly...well.. every time I close any application the system hangs up/stalls..the cursor goes into 'wait' mode and I can't do anything, the windows key does nothing, etc. Task manager does come up after cntrl/alt/dlt, but it wont do anything - the cursor won't even close it. If Im in a game and tab out, the same thing happens. Sometimes it happens once Ive booted. The desktop pic may be there but the desktop icons wont be...If I go to the menu screen and hit log off then suddenly things happen as they should, but the machine, naturally, logs off. Ive run a virus scan using avast, but it found nothing.
