Use Hot Key Can't Everytime Press
Dec 29, 2008I have a compaq laptop with windows vista basic and I want to use the hotkey ctrol+shift+C but I cant because everytime i press them the hp health check pops out! I had try a lot of things but NOTHING the health check is still here with me!

Jun 4, 2009ive just installed a new heatsink and CPU fan to replace the standard one on an Intel Q9400. The CPU fan works fine I can see it spin and adjust the fan speed from a panel that comes with it but for some reason when I boot up my computer it tells me CPU fan error and press F1 to continue.I assume because the fan is still working this is not a problem but should I be worried.

Apr 28, 2010Here's the deal. I've been working on this laptop for a client for 3 days now, and I swear I've read every forum out there, so I apologize in advance for any headaches I may cause here. As the title says, it's an Acer 6930 with Vista Home Premium. When I boot to normal mode, it gets to the 'Welcome' screen, and the little spinning circle just sits and spins. The client said they actually let it sit like that for 2 days and it still did nothing. Boot to safe mode - BSOD, generally with 'Page Fault in Non Paged Area', but sometimes others as well. (Sorry I did not jot any of them down).
Boot to BartPE thumb drive - 'remove media and press any key to restart' Boot into 'repair your computer' - Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically. If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Hardware tests pass - memory and hard drive both come up clean.
Client doesn't have the Vista install disk, so I tried to D/L one last night, and apparently I got a bad image, because even in my other machine, the dvd is showing empty, so I am SOL on a Vista disk until I try to D/L another. I've checked out several forums as I said, and followed a lot of their instructions to no avail. I have also had the drive out and hooked to another machine, and ran Malwarebytes on it. The scan literally took 13 hours and found nothing wrong. I have also ran chkdsk and it fixed some bad sectors, but that's about it. SFC /scannow from the recovery area/cmd prompt says there is a repair pending and that a reboot is required, and you can reboot all day long and it will always tell you that. So, grab some aspirin after reading all that, get a coffee, smoke 'em if ya got 'em, and then let me know if you have any suggestions short of a 12 gauge at 20 yards.
This Copy Of Windows Is Not Genuine: Cannot Exit Unless I Press OK
Dec 15, 2008Almost every time I turn on my laptop and log into my account a screen comes up saying something along the lines of Thank You For Validating Windows. This takes up the whole screen and I cannot exit unless I press OK. After my desktop is fully loaded a message comes up saying that Windows Aero has stopped working, you may be a victim of counterfeiting. There is then a link which takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software. I then run the validation test and pass. Also sometimes there is a message in white writing in the corner of my desktop which says:
Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6001
This copy of Windows is not genuine. My Vista Ultimate is 100% genuine.

Jun 14, 2007I think I broke something big time. I can't get into my computer with that and I don't want to format since I have basically everything on that computer. When I boot up I get a message saying:BOOTMGR is compressed Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. I have an 80 gig that I am not using.

Feb 4, 2010My problem is when I boot up my computer all I get is this "NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I can still get into bios, but that's it. I've desided to order the recovery discs for my computer to do a full system recovery, hoping that will fix it. My question is though, will the discs fix this "NTLDR is missing" thing, or will I have to fix it some other way?

Oct 24, 2009About a month ago, my laptop (with vista as OS) started acting up, giving me error messages such as ?windowssystem32ootwinload.exe missing or corrupt? as well as ?windowssystem32stsem missing?. I tried everything I could in vain, and I decided to go ahead and format my hard drive, through another computer using an enclosure kit since I couldn?t even get into safe mode or any other mode without getting the error screen right away. I seemed that the problem was getting worst as I restarted my computer.
As I mentioned above, I formatted my disc, thus lost all data, hoping to be able to install a clean version of VISTA. I reinstall my hard drive in the laptop, and just to make a quick test, I started the computer without the VISTA DVD in and I got the error ?NTLDR is missing Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart?, and wondering what that was about, I looked it up on the internet, and most people seemed to say that error message was a typical windows XP type of error. But I never had XP on.......
Avast AV Scanner

Can anyone comment on whether they think an Avast's AV scanner is any good.
I just got finished fixing a friends 2 month old Vista laptop that wouldn't
start up. I managed to boot it into `the last known good configuration' then
ran CCleaner, MBAM, SAS and Spybot. WU's were downlevel.
Just seems like with Avast running on this machine things got pretty screwed
up to the point where it wouldn't start normally at all. I don't think
Windows Defender was invoked either but it is now.
Won't Recognize There Is A Scanner On It
Feb 6, 2009I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and just installed a new Lexmark x4650 all-in-one. I can print perfectly when it is connected wirelessly (through the printer's internal connection to the network), but it won't recognize there is a scanner on it. If I connect it via USB, it works. I have tried disabling both the firewall (McAfee and Windows) and the wireless router. I can't see to find anyone who can print but not scan over the network.

Now, I tried to scan a photo on the Brother. I set it to scan to PC. So far, so good. (I've used this many times)But it didn't pop up on my pc screen. It popped up on my husbands screen.

May 26, 2008My Canoscan lide 35 worked fine on my XP machine. Now attached to my new vistamachine it is not working. I went to Canon and downloaded files to delete the old driver, install a new Vista driver, and install a new Canoscan Toolbox for Vista. I ran the driver deleter then the new driver .Exe file. I saw a few seconds of a file unzipping and then it was done. I could not tell if it loaded a new driver or not.
Still, does not work. I have unplugged and replugged the USB connection, changed the USB location, and still it does not work. I get two error messages; the first says "Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected (it is not). Check Status. Scanner Driver will be closed". When I close that message box I get "Unable to open TWAIN source, please check connection then restart Toolbox".
When I check the control panel, hardware. scanners and cameras, it is listed but in Properties it reads "unavailable". When I look under Device Manager, Imaging Devices it lists the Canoscan Lide35, and the properties it says "this device is working properly". I rebooted numerous times as I tried the various functions...
Office And HP Scanner/printer/fax
Apr 13, 2008I just installed a new computer with Vista Office and my HP 6110 officejet all-in-one which was working fine with XP prints from the computer, copies from the glass bed and faxes. BUT, it will NOT scan. When I push on the scan button it starts and makes noise like it is going to start. When I go to devices on the control panel it says the 6100 is working. HP no longer offers help on this machine. I have unplugged everything and did it again, all to no avail.

I really love this scanner and it's auto-restoration features for older photos, so I was not willing to give it up. I found the following website with instructions for finding the correct drivers. Apparently, Epson built support for x64, but hid the drivers within the installer for 32 bit systems. No search on any version of their support website shows driver downloads under 64 bit. I did what was described in that article, and have my scanner working beautifully on Vista x64. I can say that I downloaded drivers both from the European site as well as the U.S. site. The driver file each installs is no different, but the scan utility is a slightly different version. I went with the U.S. version in the end, it being what looks like a higher version number (3.04a instead of 3.0u... hard to tell if there's any real difference, as there was no language issues or anything).
Upgrade To Ultimate Allow Me To Use Scanner?
Mar 23, 2008After many hours online with computer techs, it has been determined that my Dell AIO964 will not scan with my version of Home Premium and I will have to upgrade to Vista Ultimate for my printer / scanner to work. Is this true? I don't want to outlay this money if my printer scanner still will not work. Also, any scanners out there that work with Vista Premium or Ultimate that is not too costly?

Apr 20, 2010I have been trying to burn a clutch of photographs to a cd for the first time on my Dell Laptop using Vista. I am using old cds (CD-RW) that I know are free and I have been using them to transfer photographs from an older PC so I know that laptop is able to read the cds. I have had to use the old PC to scan the photographs as my scanner is not supported by Vista.
However, when I come to burn the photographs I get a message that windows cannot complete the format or it hangs after taking forever to try to complete the format. I have to admit I do not understand the process and thought I would be able to drag and drop as I have done with a flash drive. I did have Nero on my old PC but I cannot use that as I cannot get the photographs back to the PC from the laptop. I am fairly sure the old PC does not support a flash drive. Also the old PC does not have an Ethernet port.
Canon Scanner Not Working
Oct 4, 2007Just for information, I have a Canon LiDE 50 scanner and it seems that Canon will not be making a Vista 64bit driver for it, as I'm presuming it's too old. Just tried to use the Vista 64bit driver for the Canon LiDE 60 scanner and that works perfectly.

Jul 29, 2009I run Windows Vista Home Premium (32). I've used my HP Photosmart C4280 printer for about 2 years, worked fine for the most part. Lately I started having problems, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver & software (got the latest versions from HP download site). Since reinstall, my scanner isn't working. Whether I press the "Scan" button on the unit, or I select "Scan picture" or "Scan document" from the HP Solution Center, an error pops up: "An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the printing device is properly connected and try again".
I've downloaded and run HP Print Diagnostic Utility and it didn't find anything. Also, I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers/software several times, cleaned temporary files and registry, still the problem persists. Having said that, the printing/copying works fine, so I know that the printer is properly connected. BTW, tried connecting the same printer to a friend's PC running Windows XP and it scans with no problem, so the issue must have something to do with HP interacting (non-interacting) with Vista.
Tilde Key Unresponsive: If I Press The Tild Key Quickly As If I Were Typing Normaly, It Dose Not Register
Feb 6, 2009ive been having problems with the tilde key on my Asus laptop. at first it was that it didint work at all, in games, in microsoft works, or notepad. i went searching online and disabled the driver for the eHome ir receiver (even though i dont own an ir receivers). after that i was able to use the tild key only outside of games. but heres the strange part, if i press the tild key quickly as if i were typing normaly, it dose not register. in order to use it i have to hold down the tilde key for about 1-2 seconds before it would spit out a stream of "````````````". then i could delete up to the first one. this is true for the laptops keyboard, and a wired dell keyboard i connected using usb.........
