Streaming To Xbox Kills Pc Network After 10 Minutes

Mar 23, 2008

I can stream to the xbox via media player or extender, play movies or music for about 10 mins, sometimes less, the xbox reports lost connectiuon to pc. When i go to pc there is no internet connection and have to reboot pc to recover and so we start again with same problemsduring all this even when the xbox cannot see the pc i can still connect to
xboxlive so the router is not the issue, it must be the network card on the pc I am thinking.

Setup of network is as follows

Vista premium pc to
Belkin modem router to
internet.
xbox to belkin router

I have tried fixed connection cable to router or wireless same reuslts.

Network Places Kills Computer

Oct 7, 2009

I have windows vista home premium. And i tried setting up a home network, which worked fine, i can see all shared folders on my network and i can access the said computer from another computer with no problem.

However, whenever i try to open any folder on the network , even if its my own (from said computer) i get blue screen, windows reboots, windows says it found a problem it cant fix, and everything else seems to be working fine. It happens with ANY folder on the network location, regardless if it has anything in it. I scanned the computer for viruses, according to my kaspersky its clean. It used to work in the past, i used to be able to access network folders with no problem.

Takes 5 Minutes To Open Network And Sharing Center

Jun 18, 2008

For as long as I've had my new pc with 32-bit Vista I've had problems with the Network and Sharing Center. The problem never bothered me enough to really do too much about it but now, after a year of it I'm fed up and trying to fix it. So the problem is that I cannot open up the Network and Sharing Center properly. I click it, it takes about 5 minutes for the folder that pops up to be filled with any form of information, and then when the thing finally loads, not a single item inside the folder window is click-able. Under "Sharing and Discovery" there are the options for "Network Discovery," "File Sharing," etc. I can't click the drop-down arrows for any of those options nor can I click any of the options on the side of the window. I can't even close the window without going into Task Manager and sometimes that doesn't even work so I have to reboot the computer.

Slow Wireless Network "Streaming Is Unwatchable"

Mar 23, 2008

I have two Laptops an Acer & Fujitsu siemens both use an atheros network adapterto connect wirelessly to my Belkin router. The laptops are similar in spec however the acer connects to my Belkin router with excellent speed (streaming content perfectly), my fujitsu connects but is extremely slow (Streaming is unwatchable). The connection strength is excellent on both machines. Both laptops are in the same room. I have spoken to Fujitsu who state there is no problem with the network adapter as the signal strength is excellent, it must be a software conflict.

Vista Startup: After Two Minutes I Get The Welcome Screen. Then The Monitor Goes Black For A Full Two Minutes Before Continuing The Startup Process

Mar 23, 2008

I have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and
comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.

1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?

2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?

3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?

I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.

MS Update Kills MS IE7

Mar 23, 2008

I have my month old computer with windows vista home premium. On 12th of February 2008 I run Microsoft update to update my computer like I have done for years with no problems. I install all 38mb of the 11 new recommended Microsoft updates.IE7 will not connect to Internet. I get "Internet Explorer cannot display web page". I used IE7 right before I did update and it worked fine. I rolled back the updates through windows system restore and IE7 worked fine. It is the windows update that caused the problem.

I installed the updates again for security and sure enough IE7 does not work. I use firefox for now but I like IE7 better and want it back.

SP1 Kills Boot Time

Mar 23, 2008

Installed the SP1 sent to me in the Windows updates a few days ago and machine has been slow to boot and generally slow ever since. It was very much faster before SP1. I have a Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine, 2 gigs ram, more than enough disk space left (320gig drive half full) etc. The only change was putting in SP1. Thinking that this could have been some sort of stuffup between Mcafee AV and this new SP1 I uninstalled it and it did make things slightly better as expected but of course I put it back and things were as bad as ever. I note, on web sites, that this is a commonly reported problem with SP1 from pre-release days. So, anyone know any way to fix it and if not, when MS will fix that?

Trojan.Vundo Kills Activation: Rebooted Error )xc004D301

Jun 29, 2008

vundo managed to slip into what i thought was a secure system..sure, Defender detected it...but it missed the 4 other DLL's the process made and let them through...now i'm sitting here unable to detect it with scanners.

Im determined to kill it, but as of now it's screwed with my windows activation. I rebooted and got Error 0xC004D301 - The security processor reported that the trusted data store was tampered. Assuming I get this cleaned...how much of a PITA is it going to be to get my vista back to validated or at this point am I totally screwed and it won't be able to be reactivated?

Media Streaming

Nov 26, 2009

I am using a NAS for storing all my media files (photos, DVDs, music etc)
and was interested in the possibilty of using this drive to stream the info
around my house but all the systems I can find rely on a PC to at least
facilitate this. Are there any systems that would be able to read the NAS
directly on need the PC to be on?

Also are there any systems that would take the signal from my rooftop aerial
and stream that back to the PC/NAS so that I could effectively use the
PC/NAS as a PVR (the PC has a TV tuner card but the reception on it's local
aerial is rubbish and the rooftop one is much better)?

i have lost my patience ... i've googled, searched, read and read some more about solving this issue with no result yet. please - if anyone out there knows how to really fix this problem, then please write it in this thread, because i feel stupid that i just purchased a new 2000$ laptop with windows vista and a bunch of other cool stuff, and the computer works even worse than my old computer. i really don't want to go back to xp, so please help me fix this issue?

Freezes While Streaming (and Randomly)

Jan 14, 2009

I have an issue wherein Vista (Ultimate 64-bit) Will freeze up completely forcing me to reset / reboot. This has occurred a few days after I put the computer together and installed all the software. It does not happen reliably. The first two times it happened, I was using Firefox in a window, in front of a video game (in windowed mode). This does not happen every time I do that, and has not happened from doing that in about a week.

The problem recently resurfaced in a more reliable fashion while using the Play-On media server software to stream Hulu to my Xbox. The computer froze after about 5 minutes of doing this, and then after about 8 minutes of doing this. I re-installed the most recent network driver, and tried switching ethernet ports. Next time it happened after about 10 minutes, twice in a row. So this is a very reliable circumstance to cause the freeze..........

Xbox 360 Controller Can't Access

Jul 4, 2009

I'm completely stumbed at the moment. I have plugged an Xbox 360 Controller to my computer which is decent gaming pc (can play Crysis on High with high fps) with Vista Ultimate 64. Recently i picked up Wanted, Lost Planet and Dead Space. Wanted keeps crashing at start up until I unplugged it and then it started to work. Lost Planet works perfectly fine... Dead space keep crashing at random when its plugged in and I'm using it to play the game. I have uninstalled and reinstalled its drivers countless times and everytime its under "Unknown" in Device Manager. I've unplugged and replugged it many times, I've installed and reinstalled the Xbox 360 accessories software and nothing seems to be fixing this. I've also used CCleaner after uninstalled to clean the registry.

I know it's the controller itself, because when I use Kb/M, I can play for hours without the game crashing. I have read a lame solution, pretty simply its the lazy solution that almost everyone keeps telling me, which to unplug the controller. But I want to use my controller for this game so that solution doesn't cut it for me. Has anyone ever encounter this problem, if so mind sharing you're solution?

So I no longer have internet on not only my laptop, but I still can't figure out how to connection share to my Xbox. This happened before, but somehow it fixed itself? I tried reinstalling the wireless drivers to no avail; it didn't fix the problem. So if anyone can help me diagnose this problem, This is pretty urgent because I need to be able to use the internet for homework.

Can't Even Play Xbox Live Its Frustrating

Mar 18, 2010

Alright well right now I am not sure as to where this thread goes but I am going to place it here for now. Now I recently got internet and I think the speed is 2.1mb I know it is not much but it is enough to run xbox live or computer gaming I think, But I have a pesky step sister who refuses to stop download movies and tv series, and I have confronted her with it but it does not work at all, now I have a router and I have been looking around relentlessly trying to figure out how to either block her from certain sites put a certain bandwidth on her computer but I just can't seem to find it.

My router is a Belkin N150 I have pulled up the router config and there is nothing I can visually see that will do any of what I need, it does not have parental controls or block specific sites, I don't want to block her from complete access just from that because it lags me not only on my computer but I can't even play xbox live its frustrating

Windows Media Center Extender And Xbox 360

Vista Ultimate is installed on my laptop for work and I wanted to see how this works but never got it connected. I was able to determine that the cause was the Novell Client for Vista version 1.x, it seems all versions cause this problem. Now I need the client for work and have already filled a bug report with Novell but have not been able to see were to report a bug with MS. I assume it is a Novell issue but I have seen MS KB fixes for novell so wanted to report it to both sides. This never worked with or without sp1 for vista.
