I have my month old computer with windows vista home premium. On 12th of February 2008 I run Microsoft update to update my computer like I have done for years with no problems. I install all 38mb of the 11 new recommended Microsoft updates.IE7 will not connect to Internet. I get "Internet Explorer cannot display web page". I used IE7 right before I did update and it worked fine. I rolled back the updates through windows system restore and IE7 worked fine. It is the windows update that caused the problem.
I installed the updates again for security and sure enough IE7 does not work. I use firefox for now but I like IE7 better and want it back.
Dell forward a bunch of updates from Microsoft yesterday. One was Security Update KB950759. After this was installed I couldn't access the internet. After I uninstalled it everything worked. Again today it was sent by Dell and installed-same thing, couldn't access internet until I uninstalled it.
If you have installed Windows Mail on a Windows 7 computer, yesterday's update contains a KB978542 patch which changes msoe.dll so it won't run on Windows 7. I had warned about these types of issues when Win7 was first released. Microsoft claims it was done for security=20 reasons, see To get it working again, replace the new non-working copy of msoe.dll in Windows 7 with a copy of the new patched version of msoe.dll from a Vista machine.=20
Note: I ran into permissions issues when trying to delete the = non-working msoe.dll, so rather than fighting that, I renamed the Win7 Windows Mail directory to "Windows Mail-X", then I copied and pasted the Windows Mail directory from the Vista machine. I suspect that Windows Mail will = become less and less compatible with Win7 as time goes along.=20
Installed the SP1 sent to me in the Windows updates a few days ago and machine has been slow to boot and generally slow ever since. It was very much faster before SP1. I have a Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine, 2 gigs ram, more than enough disk space left (320gig drive half full) etc. The only change was putting in SP1. Thinking that this could have been some sort of stuffup between Mcafee AV and this new SP1 I uninstalled it and it did make things slightly better as expected but of course I put it back and things were as bad as ever. I note, on web sites, that this is a commonly reported problem with SP1 from pre-release days. So, anyone know any way to fix it and if not, when MS will fix that?
I have windows vista home premium. And i tried setting up a home network, which worked fine, i can see all shared folders on my network and i can access the said computer from another computer with no problem.
However, whenever i try to open any folder on the network , even if its my own (from said computer) i get blue screen, windows reboots, windows says it found a problem it cant fix, and everything else seems to be working fine. It happens with ANY folder on the network location, regardless if it has anything in it. I scanned the computer for viruses, according to my kaspersky its clean. It used to work in the past, i used to be able to access network folders with no problem.
I can stream to the xbox via media player or extender, play movies or music for about 10 mins, sometimes less, the xbox reports lost connectiuon to pc. When i go to pc there is no internet connection and have to reboot pc to recover and so we start again with same problemsduring all this even when the xbox cannot see the pc i can still connect to xboxlive so the router is not the issue, it must be the network card on the pc I am thinking.
Setup of network is as follows
Vista premium pc to Belkin modem router to internet. xbox to belkin router
I have tried fixed connection cable to router or wireless same reuslts.
vundo managed to slip into what i thought was a secure system..sure, Defender detected it...but it missed the 4 other DLL's the process made and let them through...now i'm sitting here unable to detect it with scanners.
Im determined to kill it, but as of now it's screwed with my windows activation. I rebooted and got Error 0xC004D301 - The security processor reported that the trusted data store was tampered. Assuming I get this cleaned...how much of a PITA is it going to be to get my vista back to validated or at this point am I totally screwed and it won't be able to be reactivated?
That is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.
As far as I can determine, this update (released 22Oct08) does not work, at least not with Windows Vista Home Premium. I had update 7 running, and got an update notification for Release 10 earlier today. Downloaded and installed the update, tried the Java test page, Firefox (both 3.0.3 and today's Minefield beta-test for Firefox 3.1) hung. Tried the update in IE7, that, too, hung.
Went to Control Panel, clicked on the Java icon, had some problems opening it; when it did finally open, I went into Advanced and found that Update 10 was not recognizing IE. Opened IE, redownloaded the off-line update, to see if that worked; answer is, no, it still did not recognize IE. Back to Java, found the off-line installed for Update 7, removed 10, reinstalled 7; Java works once again. In the midst of this aggravation, trying to figure out what the problem was, I did find one link to an article that said Update 10 had been delayed due to some unspecified problem. Seems to me that, at least for Vista Home Premium, there is still at least one unspecified problem with Update 10.
Microsoft Update was first released a few years ago for Windows XP and Server 2003 as a great way to update all of your Microsoft software installed on your PC. Not only would it update Windows, but it would also update Microsoft Office. Are you a Microsoft Outlook user? If so, Microsoft Update would even download updated junk mail signatures when they are released.
In Windows Vista the new Windows Update application is no longer web-based. Microsoft has built-in the old Microsoft Update functionality into the new interface but you need to turn it on before you can use it. Follow these steps to turn on updates for other Microsoft applications: ...
I understand that Vista SP2 RC update has to be uninstalled before installing SP2 RTM update(when bcomes available). Does 5the Windows Update automatically uninstall SP2 RC update or does it has to be done manually?
The last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.
I couldn't make my lap-top update. Gives me "couldn't check update" and "update-error code 80070246". And also while starting-up it gives me "checking uptades" after welcome message.
I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.
I am running Office Home and Student 2007 and have just run a diagnostic which suggests that my installation is not up to date and that I go to the Microsoft Update site and download any available updates. When I do, I am asked to sign on with 'Microsoft Update'. The idea is, I think, to combine this Microsoft Update with my Windows Update and let Office updates come though along with updates for Vista, IE, etc. I have posted here before with issues concerning updates including a fiasco I had last November which involved Office updates and am wondering, since Office seems to be working well at the moment (I was bored so I did a diagnostic ) should I bother with this or just leave it? Does Office have security issues like IE and Vista?
Can someone help? I'm trying to install the updates for this installation so I can install SP1, and Windows 7 RC. Everytime I try to install updates, I keep getting this error.
So ive been trying to update to SP2 (KB948465) on my HP Pavilion dv4 laptop and i cant do it. When it starts to update it says " A system error prevented the service pack from installing. Please download and run the **Check for System update readiness** tool. I did this and used this rediness tool, Download details: System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [January 2010] and after installing the Hotfix thing te update for SP2 still didnt work. Im using the windows update. How would i go about installing SP2? I think im missing an important file or something.
Yesterday i updated (which released 10/13) my Windows Vista Ultimate X64 then i restarted my PC,to install updates , after this Vista loaded correctly but i saw warning on shutdown icon which means i should reset Windows for installing updates. after i did it, Vista want install updates but after about 20Sec. windows being restarted automatically. i tried each option in F8 boot menu, but not works.my Vista disk is SP1 but i updated my Windows to SP2 & now repairing it with Vista disk is impossible & says insert correct disk. i installed another Vista but i need previuos one, what can i do?
I have it in Windows Update, but I wanted to ask you guys, is it worth it to do it? My computer is really only used for gaming and such, and I've heard it causes issues. Also, if I installed it to 4%, then clicked 'cancel' do the 4% of files get installed, or at least do they not actually come into effect unless it's completely installed?
I recently accepted an update called, "Service Pack2". Since the update my USB connections no longer work; therefore, I can't use my external mouse and it's driving me crazy!! Does anyone have a solution for this??
New system, Vista Ultimate x64. Started with IE7, Update forced IE8 onto the system. 7 was fine, but 8 screwed some things up, and there is ONE thing left that I can't fix. Downgraded back to IE7, but the address bar is still missing, and I can't find a way to get it back.
cannot update at all? whats going on. i just freshly install windows vista x32, downloaded antivirus and my drivers. only other thing is firefox. why cant i do updates or even install standalone sp1 that i downloaded from microsoft.
I have a desktop running windows Vista (basic)which will not now log onto windows,I clicked the install update button and it just keeps saying configuring updates stage 3 ,0% complete etc, then it goes to power saving mode, then back to the loading bar and does it again, and again and I cannot log in,I have instaled updates before with no problems.
My automatic updates stop downloading since December last year. I wish to know if there's a limit for support on that in my licence for DELL Inspiron 1501 but I didn't find anything on that matter.
There are 3 drivers that I cannot upgrade too and aren't working and they are on Network on Device Manager of mt Vista Basic and they are:
Microsoft 6to4 Adapter 10 Microsoft 6to4 Adapter 5 Microsoft 6to4 Adapter 7
that leads to :
c:Windowssystem32DRIVERS unnel.sys
No update is available and they say it's the best driver, but doesn't work fine!
Is there a reason for it related with the denied of Windows Update ?
