Dell forward a bunch of updates from Microsoft yesterday. One was Security Update KB950759. After this was installed I couldn't access the internet. After I uninstalled it everything worked. Again today it was sent by Dell and installed-same thing, couldn't access internet until I uninstalled it.
View 7 RepliesI have my month old computer with windows vista home premium. On 12th of February 2008 I run Microsoft update to update my computer like I have done for years with no problems. I install all 38mb of the 11 new recommended Microsoft updates.IE7 will not connect to Internet. I get "Internet Explorer cannot display web page". I used IE7 right before I did update and it worked fine. I rolled back the updates through windows system restore and IE7 worked fine. It is the windows update that caused the problem.
I installed the updates again for security and sure enough IE7 does not work. I use firefox for now but I like IE7 better and want it back.
I am running Windows Vista 64bit edition on an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard, Intel Q9540 2.66gz Quadcore processor with 4gb RAM. My system has been running fine for the last year and just last night (27th June 2009) windows told me there were 3 updates that should be installed. I only noticed one of the update names which was Internet Explorer 8, the other 2 were security updates or something - really not sure though. The total of the downloaded updates was around 280mb.
Anyway... So I started installing the updates and walked away. When I came back there was a Terms & Agreement box for Internet Explorer 8 which I agreed to. Once that finished it came back to my desktop and said "windows needs to restart to configure the updates, please restart now."..........
Using Vista Home Premium and Internet Explorer 7. When on the internet, I'm getting a popup titled "Windows Security Alert." It says my computer is infected with: It wants me to download a remover from promalwarescannerv2.com. I'm running McAfee Total Protection, but when I do a system scan it says all is OK. I did a system restore, but it comes back later.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIf you have installed Windows Mail on a Windows 7 computer,yesterday's update contains a KB978542 patch which changes msoe.dll so it won't run on Windows 7. I had warned about these types of issues when Win7 was first released. Microsoft claims it was done for security=20 reasons, see To get it working again, replace the new non-working copy of msoe.dll in Windows 7 with a copy of the new patched version of msoe.dll from a Vista machine.=20
Note: I ran into permissions issues when trying to delete the = non-working msoe.dll, so rather than fighting that, I renamed the Win7 Windows Mail directory to "Windows Mail-X", then I copied and pasted the Windows Mail directory from the Vista machine. I suspect that Windows Mail will = become less and less compatible with Win7 as time goes along.=20
Search tells me the file exists but will not tell me where. Access denied. "To access, click Security Tab"
Security Tab shows permission granted for Administrator and [User]. I am both User and Admin.
Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)

View 7 Replies View RelatedWe developed a program to integrate a large amount of data for National Air and Space Museum (NASM) volunteer use. The program works fine, but our users are relatively unsophisticated volunteers. They get confused by the warnings issued by Access when opening our program. Our users run at multiple Win2K and XP machines and load our program and the data over the Smithsonian intranet. ....Note that the path shown above is when I'm testing on my home network, not at NASM. Also, that warning was from Office 2007 but at NASM they are still using Office 2003, so the dialog box is different.
Also, the error message is different under Office 2003 (and a lot more confusing for users.) I'm not at NASM now, so I can't see the exact text of how the error appears there. I'll post that tomorrow when I go there. How can we avoid these warnings? Would it work for us to obtain and publish a certificate for the program code? If so, does it need to be reissued each time we make a change? (Since we have only been up and running for users since January, the code is still being modified as we gain experience.)
This security update (see below) kept reappearing on my task bar wanting to be installed and I kept installing it. I finally checked and I have it on the list of installed updates a dozen times--but it still keeps appearing on my task bar asking to be installed. It's like a spell gone wrong. How do I stop it and/or get rid of it? I don't even have works 8 on my computer. Thanks, Don.

I am unable to install Security Vista update KB967723 (released very recently). When I attempt to install this patch I get the error code '80070020'.
I have downloaded this patch manually to install with no success. I have tried turning off my anti-virus (AVG) and windows firewall, with again no success. I keep getting the above error code.
I have also scanned my system with AVG, Windows defender, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal & Ad-Aware (nil viruses etc...)
A Dell Inspiron 1521 running Vista. There are several problems that all seem related but the most obvious one is that I can't update Vista. It is set up to update automatically. However, the "New Updates are Available" Icon appears on the task bar. If I click on it a window comes up and immediately disappears. If I hunt through the help menus until I find a link that says "Click to open Windows Update" the same thing happens: a window opens and immediately shuts. Similarly if I go to the control panel and click Windows Update nothing happens.
If I right click on it and choose Explore a window comes up but it is empty. The Default Programs icon is similarly unresponsive. If I click on the Windows Defender Icon and click on that and say to update, it returns error 0x8007045a. In addition to that, the backup/recovery thing returns errors. And when I try to run Ad-Aware it hangs. All of these failures are related to security
I have installed the security patch for IE and I did a disc check afterwards when I noticed , on completion that Windows had made alterations to the file system and that there was 8KB of bad sectors but the disc was clean ! Is this something that I should be worried about ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis update keeps installing over and over It has now installed successfully 7 times and is shown as successful in the Update History list - 7 times!
I suppose I could uninstall VirtualPC since I have not been using it lately.
I should mention that it does not show up in the Control Panel | Progarams and Features Installed Updates list, though.
One other thing: VirtualPC is not supposed to work on Vista, but it does. In fact my son does development using it daily.

2. Any version of Agent mail.ru (messenger, e-mail notifier, cannot connect in the Windows Vista x64 Ultimate. I checked everything the Agent mail.ru support suggested.
i have symantec antivirus corporate editon on my computer and all of the sudden for some odd reason the windows security center is telling me its not communitcating with it, its up to date with the virus list, does anyone have an oppionon on this antivirus,

My subscription is up to Norton and is it safe to remove it from the add and remove program? I can't see paying $50.00 for this when there is avg or avast and other good free ones,I have avg on my desk top and the Norton came on my HP laptop.

I keep getting a message that this update is ready to install. I have installed it about 10 times, but after it is installed, I get the update icon and the same update is there ready to be installed. I recently upgraded to latest level of Nortin Internet Security 2008 (when they prompted me to!), and since then I cannot receive email via Windows Mail from my Yahoo account. See error message above. Just spoke to Symantec who claim that NIS 2008 is fully compatible with Windows Mail. I'm not convinced as the problem only started with their upgrade, and all was working perfectly before.
