My computer must be infected. New Internet pages starts up continuously with advertizing and in particular urging me to download and install ???AntiSpywareSuite???. Warning windows with the text ???Windows Internet Explorer??? at the top of frame, also pop ups asking me: Do you want to install AntiSpywareSuite to scan your PC for malware now? (Recommended) I already have Microsoft malware and spyware protection running along with the latest Symantec antivirus suite. I have also run Lavasoft???s Ad Aware and removed all cookies and removed the latest programs that I have installed, but nothing has helped. I am running Vista Business.
I am running Windows Vista 64bit edition on an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard, Intel Q9540 2.66gz Quadcore processor with 4gb RAM. My system has been running fine for the last year and just last night (27th June 2009) windows told me there were 3 updates that should be installed. I only noticed one of the update names which was Internet Explorer 8, the other 2 were security updates or something - really not sure though. The total of the downloaded updates was around 280mb.
Anyway... So I started installing the updates and walked away. When I came back there was a Terms & Agreement box for Internet Explorer 8 which I agreed to. Once that finished it came back to my desktop and said "windows needs to restart to configure the updates, please restart now."..........
I got Vista 32 bit installed on my laptop. I work from Internet And need a good firewall and security suite which can protect my computer from trojen and malewars and hackers. Currently i am using kaspersky as my internet security and in past i have used Norton Security suite, In Both I have noticed getting too much of hacking attempts 3/hr.
After fighting to get rid of a Trojan horse virus, I am missing the internet browser. E-mail works OK. Clicking 'Internet' icon gets me the message 'Internet Explorer has stopped working:". I tried 'restore' but it is not working either. I get the message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore'. I scanned with AVG and the files it scanned are clean. I have a 'restore' DVD made by the computer vendor but when I stick it in the CD drive nothing happens. The computer is a 1 year old ACER with VISTA home premium preinstalled. How do I proceed from here? I have no idea what to do.
I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?

Our philosophy, as you well know, is about “Prevention” being your first line of defense. CIS now has an AV component however this AV component is there to make Prevention more usable. We believe in a Layered Security Architecture where Prevention - Detection - Cure (in that order) is the components needed for a good security. Of course Prevention being the first line of defense, CIS does not compromise on this philosophy and continues to prevent malware from infecting the PC in the first place. And with the help of the detection technology (AV) built in CIS we can now offer easier to use security technology that has “prevention” as its first line of defense. My subscription is up to Norton and is it safe to remove it from the add and remove program? I can't see paying $50.00 for this when there is avg or avast and other good free ones,I have avg on my desk top and the Norton came on my HP laptop.

I recently upgraded to latest level of Nortin Internet Security 2008 (when they prompted me to!), and since then I cannot receive email via Windows Mail from my Yahoo account. See error message above. Just spoke to Symantec who claim that NIS 2008 is fully compatible with Windows Mail. I'm not convinced as the problem only started with their upgrade, and all was working perfectly before.
I just tried to install Norton Internet Security on my laptop. It started the installation process but an error message" C:windowssystem32 iched32.dll not designed to run on windows or contains errors" came up and I could proceed no further. I installed the same cd on my xp pc with no issues. Is there a fix for this or is there an error on vista.
I am ordering a new computer (Vista Home Premium 64 bit) that offers an Internet.
Security Suite from Norton, McAfee, or Trend Micro in the purchase price.I am seeking recommendations on which of the three to get.
I am open to advice ranging from one of them being superior, to they all are inferior, to which one sucks the least, or even the one easiest to remove without hosing the system before installing a different suite.
I also have available Kaspersky 7.0 (which I know will update when installed) with one more available computer on its license. It is running fine on two Vista Home Premium 32 bit systems.
Full Antivirus Programs. Avira Antivir (downloadable free software) Avira is one of the best Antivirus vendors on the market. ((AV-comparative 2008) Avast! (Alwil) (downloadable free software) Free Home Edition antimalware progam. AVG Antivirus (downloadable free software) Free home Edition single computer use-non commercial use Not free, but highly recommended ( free 30 day trials)
Eset NOD32 4.0 Avira Premium/Pro Kaspersky Norton 2009................
I have Kaspersky Internet Security on my desktop now and am really pleased. Since I have Vista Home Premium i am wondering if WindowsLiveOneCare would give the same security that I get from Kaspersky 7 ? The reason Im asking is with having Vista I was thinking that to have all security from Microsoft may be a lot better.
Dell forward a bunch of updates from Microsoft yesterday. One was Security Update KB950759. After this was installed I couldn't access the internet. After I uninstalled it everything worked. Again today it was sent by Dell and installed-same thing, couldn't access internet until I uninstalled it.
I am using Vista Home Premium with AVG Free anti Virus and NoAdware. I intend to delete AVG and Install Trend 2008 internet Security. Will it run along side Windows Defender or will i have to shut it down, If so how? Sorry i am not very technical,
McAfee Internet Security Suite 2008 won't let you register. Therfore unable to update virus definitions, and unable to schedule auto scan. This is the boxed retail version. Not the one downloaded from McAfee's website. When it tries to update I get messsage I get message that I need to register this software, I choose Ok. But a blank window pops up titled McAfee Security but window is blank where your suppose to enter your registration information. Just incase I'm unable to find replies in this newsgroup
Using Vista Home Premium and Internet Explorer 7. When on the internet, I'm getting a popup titled "Windows Security Alert." It says my computer is infected with: It wants me to download a remover from promalwarescannerv2.com. I'm running McAfee Total Protection, but when I do a system scan it says all is OK. I did a system restore, but it comes back later.
I apparently got a virus on my laptop. As soon as the internet connection is established, I keep receiving tons of messages informing me that my laptop is infected. A Visa Internet security 2010 window popups, where Firewall and Malware are off and it tells me that I have to buy a subscription to get rid of the problem. It apparently detects 28 trojan... programs. I ran Avast and another anti-virus program. They did detect some trojan programs but did not find the cause of the infection. When I try to go on Firefox, it says that Firefox is infected with Trojan_BNK.Win32.keylogger.gen
My computer has been having issues accessing some internet sites: facebook, yahoo, thisiscornwall and so on. I have Kaspersky internet security and thought everything was ok. Until i decided to download AVG. Whilst running this scan AVG discovered i have a Vundo. 0 trojan. AVG stated the trojan had been deleted. However i decided to manually remove the program the trojan was found in (a zip file for registry mechanic sent from a friend). I also uninstalled the program. However the problem is still there and i cannot access certian sites. Does anyone know what i can do to get rid of this problem? I have tried a vundo removal program and also vundobegone (in which you start the program in safe mode) these both returned a nothing found result.
3. The Windows Firewall service is not running. When try to turn on get prompt: "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not Running. When try to restart Windows Firewall sevice: "Wimdows cannot starts the Windows Firewall service. Same in the Safe mode and from Adnministrative Tools. Also failed to load Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap-in. Error code: 0x6D9. When try to use systen restore: "System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. The volume Shadow copy service used by Systen Restore is not working."
4. When I tried to shrimk files for Vista reinstallation, in Computer Managenemt / Storage: "Unable to connect to Virtual Disk Service" and this all happend at once, after i was trying IObit Security Scanning option "Network security" Is anything possible and what and in what order I have to try to do?
Internet explorer (7) won't run. I found that the IEXPLORER.exe is not in the directory. I have tried to install IE8 but it fails on configuring every time. Same happens when I try to install the cummulative IE7 updates (she's not good at installing updates). Everytime I try any kind of install or update concerned with IE it fails at the configuration phase. Other problems are that she can no longer use windows messenger. This connects but terminates in failure almost instantly.
I've ran a Norton Security scan which has found 144 tracking cookies but nothing more. The fix now button produces fail to lauch link which may well have something to do with the IE problem. Google Chrome is installed and works OK. I don't know what the last good restart point is. I've tried going into the repair feature on windows live essentials through the programs and features in the control panel but I just get a fatal error 0x8007007. Can't even look at internet options in control panel. That won't open either.
I am runnng Vista and IE is misbehaving itself, going down faster than the stocks in my portfolio. I regret that that is about all I know as nothing specific seems to cause it other than giving it a task to do. Where do I start on this. It has been doing it now for weeks.
