Using Vista Home Premium and Internet Explorer 7. When on the internet, I'm getting a popup titled "Windows Security Alert." It says my computer is infected with: It wants me to download a remover from promalwarescannerv2.com. I'm running McAfee Total Protection, but when I do a system scan it says all is OK. I did a system restore, but it comes back later.
View 7 RepliesOn starting up my Dell notebook today I got an alert from Windows Security Center that there were multiple issues with my computers security. When I opened the Security Center Alert it was indicating that my firewall was off and also that it could not detect any anti-virus software on the computer. The computer came with McAfee Security Center and when I open that it indicates that I'm totally protected. It of course has a firewall and anti-virus, etc.

When I open Windows Security Center it shows the problem that Windows Defender and Spyware Doctor are both turned off. That's as it should be and as it has always been. I have BitDefender Internet Security 2009 and it shows "No issue affects your
computer."
I used an elevated command to check that WMI and it shows as consistent. So
why did this alert suddenly start showing up?
I know I can turn the alerts off, but I'd much rather find out what caused
this problem and fix it.
I have been trying to send some emails to an instructor, but each time the windows security setting pops up and prompts for my username and password... I have given the correct one each time, but it just phases out and pops back up querying again. Who do I talk to regarding finding out what the username password are>?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis morning my computer started issuing security alerts notifying me that the firewall was off as was the malware. I turn the firewall on but under the malware section it indicates that it is reporting to the security centre in a format that is no longer supported. It also has a little Not Compatible icon to the right of the malware icon on the left. Once the firewall is turned on and the malware turns from red to yellow when we turn it on the shield in the bottom right of the screen goes yellow for a while but eventually it goes red again and I am again notified that the firewall is off and the malware is off as well.
I know my subscription is still in effect and according to the system it expires 10/03/2010.
How do I get Vista to stop annoying me about opening programs either at startup or when I open them manually? I've trying opening the security center and telling Vista not to alert me or display tray icon. But when I start up, I still get a publisher-not-verified warning about a program I want to run. And when I try to open it manually (or another app that contains an internal server), Vista (shield.exe) stops and asks me if I want to run it. If I take the checkmark out of "Always warn about this type of program," it's there's the next time anyway. I'd like to disable all this stuff. How do I go about it?

Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)

The program works fine, but our users are relatively unsophisticated volunteers. They get confused by the warnings issued by Access when opening our program. Our users run at multiple Win2K and XP machines and load our program and the data over the Smithsonian intranet. ....Note that the path shown above is when I'm testing on my home network, not at NASM. Also, that warning was from Office 2007 but at NASM they are still using Office 2003, so the dialog box is different.
Also, the error message is different under Office 2003 (and a lot more confusing for users.) I'm not at NASM now, so I can't see the exact text of how the error appears there. I'll post that tomorrow when I go there. How can we avoid these warnings? Would it work for us to obtain and publish a certificate for the program code? If so, does it need to be reissued each time we make a change? (Since we have only been up and running for users since January, the code is still being modified as we gain experience.)

I recently upgraded to latest level of Nortin Internet Security 2008 (when they prompted me to!), and since then I cannot receive email via Windows Mail from my Yahoo account. See error message above. Just spoke to Symantec who claim that NIS 2008 is fully compatible with Windows Mail. I'm not convinced as the problem only started with their upgrade, and all was working perfectly before.

I am running Windows Vista 64bit edition on an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard, Intel Q9540 2.66gz Quadcore processor with 4gb RAM. My system has been running fine for the last year and just last night (27th June 2009) windows told me there were 3 updates that should be installed. I only noticed one of the update names which was Internet Explorer 8, the other 2 were security updates or something - really not sure though. The total of the downloaded updates was around 280mb.
Anyway... So I started installing the updates and walked away. When I came back there was a Terms & Agreement box for Internet Explorer 8 which I agreed to. Once that finished it came back to my desktop and said "windows needs to restart to configure the updates, please restart now."..........
I have Kaspersky Internet Security on my desktop now and am really pleased. Since I have Vista Home Premium i am wondering if WindowsLiveOneCare would give the same security that I get from Kaspersky 7 ? The reason Im asking is with having Vista I was thinking that to have all security from Microsoft may be a lot better.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMcAfee Internet Security Suite 2008 won't let you register. Therfore unable to update virus definitions, and unable to schedule auto scan. This is the boxed retail version. Not the one downloaded from McAfee's website. When it tries to update I get messsage I get message that I need to register this software, I choose Ok. But a blank window pops up titled McAfee Security but window is blank where your suppose to enter your registration information. Just incase I'm unable to find replies in this newsgroup

A Visa Internet security 2010 window popups, where Firewall and Malware are off and it tells me that I have to buy a subscription to get rid of the problem. I have Kaspersky internet security and thought everything was ok. Until i decided to download AVG. Whilst running this scan AVG discovered i have a Vundo. 0 trojan. AVG stated the trojan had been deleted. However i decided to manually remove the program the trojan was found in (a zip file for registry mechanic sent from a friend). I also uninstalled the program. However the problem is still there and i cannot access certian sites. Does anyone know what i can do to get rid of this problem? I have tried a vundo removal program and also vundobegone (in which you start the program in safe mode) these both returned a nothing found result.
