tons and tons of questions from users, who are having problems with windows vista and streaming videos online, like on Internet and every other place online and no real source for handling this issue. no it is not the internetconnection and no it is not the drivers. we have all tried to re-install these 40 times and we all got the newest versions but still the streaming stops, pauses, glitches, hops and simply makes watching videos online a pain in the *** with windows vista.
i have lost my patience ... i've googled, searched, read and read some more about solving this issue with no result yet. please - if anyone out there knows how to really fix this problem, then please write it in this thread, because i feel stupid that i just purchased a new 2000$ laptop with windows vista and a bunch of other cool stuff, and the computer works even worse than my old computer. i really don't want to go back to xp, so please help me fix this issue?
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and when I stream videos from websites like Gametrailers.com as either a Windows Media or a Quicktime file the video is choppy and has sound issues. If I download the same video there is no choppyness and once the stream is no longer on HTTP and is on CACHE it is fine. I know i have enough bandwidth for the video and under statistics I does not show any errors .I have all the latest drivers and service packs. I have reinstalled Vista as both 32 bit and 64 bit to see if there was some difference. I also have this same issue on my Laptop running Vista.

I have an HP Pavillion entertainment Pc with vista business, amd turion 64x2 processor and nvidia graphics card. I cannot watch streaming videos using move media player.
On some sites when I am trying to view streaming videos with Windows Media Player, I get an error message that says something to the effect that windows media player encountered a problem when playing the file...on other sites it works...just loads up saying connecting to media and then says ready...not sure what the problem is...I even have the same message when playing it in the player and not on the site...I am using Firefox..have the same problem in IE as well.
I am using a NAS for storing all my media files (photos, DVDs, music etc) and was interested in the possibilty of using this drive to stream the info around my house but all the systems I can find rely on a PC to at least facilitate this. Are there any systems that would be able to read the NAS directly on need the PC to be on?
Also are there any systems that would take the signal from my rooftop aerial and stream that back to the PC/NAS so that I could effectively use the PC/NAS as a PVR (the PC has a TV tuner card but the reception on it's local aerial is rubbish and the rooftop one is much better)?
I have an issue wherein Vista (Ultimate 64-bit) Will freeze up completely forcing me to reset / reboot. This has occurred a few days after I put the computer together and installed all the software. It does not happen reliably. The first two times it happened, I was using Firefox in a window, in front of a video game (in windowed mode). This does not happen every time I do that, and has not happened from doing that in about a week.
The problem recently resurfaced in a more reliable fashion while using the Play-On media server software to stream Hulu to my Xbox. The computer froze after about 5 minutes of doing this, and then after about 8 minutes of doing this. I re-installed the most recent network driver, and tried switching ethernet ports. Next time it happened after about 10 minutes, twice in a row. So this is a very reliable circumstance to cause the freeze..........
if this has been answered but i cannot get the search function to work, anyway, when i connect my dell inspiron 1525 laptop (via hdmi)to my lcd tv, its a pain enough just getting it to dual screen with the sound coming from the telly but whenever i watch a video on the tv at full screen its fine until i touch anything on the keyboad and the video returns to a minimised window, this means i cannot watch anything streaming off the net on the telly whilst browsing facebook etc..... can anything be done? and does anyone know if windows 7 handles dual screen any better than vista?
I can stream to the xbox via media player or extender, play movies or music for about 10 mins, sometimes less, the xbox reports lost connectiuon to pc. When i go to pc there is no internet connection and have to reboot pc to recover and so we start again with same problemsduring all this even when the xbox cannot see the pc i can still connect to xboxlive so the router is not the issue, it must be the network card on the pc I am thinking.
Setup of network is as follows
Vista premium pc to Belkin modem router to internet. xbox to belkin router

I have a quad-boot Intel CoreDuo machine with 4 GB of memory and an ATI AIW X1900 Radeon (multi-booting courtesy of EasyBCD). To put the matter as quickly as possible, all four systems (Vista 32, Vista 64, XP, and Ubuntu) have been happily coexisting for a long time. I haven't used Vista 64 for about 10 days and went in to do some work on it this morning. To my surprise, the video disappeared immediately after the green startup wait indicator. Eventually, after about the usual amount of time and hard disk activity, the startup sound came on but absolutely no video. I restored my full backup of the Vista 64 partition from last Sunday=97 same problem!
I went in on safe mode but it is impossible to change video settings or install new drivers in safe mode so that was a dead end. I tried the repair utility that comes with Vista but it could find no problem with startup. My working hypothesis is that something has gone wrong with the video drivers although that may not be the case. Even if it were, I can think of no way of fixing it short of completely rebuilding the Vista 64 system checked desperately do not want to do
who has purchased a JVC Everio HDD video camera has probably learned that they chose to use some god forsaken proprietary video format - the .MOD extension. Apparently this is some sort of MPEG2 encoding, however, most major video editing suites prefer not to accept this format? what we need is something more common? such as .AVI or .MPG. I would be happy with the .MOD file format if the software that came with the JVC Everio actually worked.

I have two Laptops an Acer & Fujitsu siemens both use an atheros network adapterto connect wirelessly to my Belkin router. The laptops are similar in spec however the acer connects to my Belkin router with excellent speed (streaming content perfectly), my fujitsu connects but is extremely slow (Streaming is unwatchable). The connection strength is excellent on both machines. Both laptops are in the same room. I have spoken to Fujitsu who state there is no problem with the network adapter as the signal strength is excellent, it must be a software conflict.

I have 8GB RAM installed (max for my MoBo) and 2 Video Card 512MB.
So this will mean that my Vista Home Premium x64 have to deal with 9GB RAM.
How can I be sure that it takes full advantage of all RAM? In My Computer > property shows 8196MB RAM, my doubt is if really when I am in Crossfire mode, my PC is able to use the 1024MB Video Ram to get the best performance in 3D Game.
If somebody can give me a way to check and even better to allow Vista to use all 9024MB it will be great.

My current card is the NVIDIA GeForce 8200.
Is the card i want to buy any better than the one i currently have? I don't know to much about video cards but I think it is better. If it is better, will this card run Race Driver : Grid, and COD5?
i have a gateway md 7818u and i seem to be experiencing a video lag in games. it is almost like i can play almost no games even games that are old and i shoud easily be able to play like half life 2 lag badly like every 3 seconds or so. i also am having this issue on streaming video untill it is loaded but when it is loaded it runs extremely well. even on Internet when the pink bar is far ahead of where i am

I just upgraded to Media Player 11. I have XP. I downloaded some AVI files and they play, but sound only. Perfect sound, just no picture. They automatically open in WMP just as they should, and I tried right-clicking menus to switch views, but the view is at 100% full screen mode. I get sound, and I get visualizations (like bars and waves, alchemy, etc) instead of the actual movie. I have looked around the forums but don't seem to see anyone having this particular problem. The files are from a P2P site, but I don't think that's the problem as the sound works fine. And mpeg files from the site play fine.
All had been working well until a few days ago. For some reason, now when I double-click a video file, I can hear the audio but I get no video. I must open WMP manually, and then I get the video of what I'm hearing. I used to double-click a video and it automatically opened WMP.
Then, to close WMP, I must stop the video first. Because if I don't, the audio will continue even though the video will not be seen. I then have to re-open the player, stop the video, then close WMP. I used to close the program (X on the WMP) and it would all (video and audio) close,
I'm trying to burn a DVD img file with serveral peices of software and nothing is working. I know the image is good, I viewed it with Alcohol in virtual drive. I have tried Nero, IMG Burn, DVDFab, and a few others. It completes successfully but when I view the disc only the menu works the movie is broken up with mpeg blocking and will not play sufficiently. I also tried it in my x32 machine as well and it did the same thing... What am I doing wrong?
Well, yesterday i bought an iPod touch... So now i need a converter to convert avi to mp4. I have vista, and I have downloaded videos from itoons. Then I burned them on cds. My problem is that once they are burned, I can hear the cds but cannot see them.
There seems to be a problems with how Vista and WMP11 is looking at Video. I can go to google video and play everything in XP WMP11 but in Vista I only get sound.
