My Vista Ultimate box will not recognize the Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender. I do see the Xbox 360 in my network devices, but i do not see the install option. Additionally, it will not find the Xbox through the Extnder wizard in Media Center. I have network discovery, file sharing and media sharing enabled. However, i am able to UPNP share via Windows Media Player.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ultimate 64 and my xbox 360 controller. everything says it should load right up as soon as i plug it in, but it's not and i'm starting to get frustrated with it. I've downloaded and installed (running as admin) the xbox controller software and still the guide light is just flashing, my system does not recognize the device but it chimes when i unplug it and plug it back in. in the device manager it's showing up, but in control panel it does not.

It has a AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor. It has Norton 360 All In One v2.0. I have my xbox 360 connected to my pc's RJ-45 jack with a ethernet cable. I've tried everything I could think of.

I have plugged an Xbox 360 Controller to my computer which is decent gaming pc (can play Crysis on High with high fps) with Vista Ultimate 64. Recently i picked up Wanted, Lost Planet and Dead Space. Wanted keeps crashing at start up until I unplugged it and then it started to work. Lost Planet works perfectly fine... Dead space keep crashing at random when its plugged in and I'm using it to play the game. I have uninstalled and reinstalled its drivers countless times and everytime its under "Unknown" in Device Manager. I've unplugged and replugged it many times, I've installed and reinstalled the Xbox 360 accessories software and nothing seems to be fixing this. I've also used CCleaner after uninstalled to clean the registry.
I know it's the controller itself, because when I use Kb/M, I can play for hours without the game crashing. I have read a lame solution, pretty simply its the lazy solution that almost everyone keeps telling me, which to unplug the controller. But I want to use my controller for this game so that solution doesn't cut it for me. Has anyone ever encounter this problem, if so mind sharing you're solution?
I want to use 'Windows Easy Transfer' wizard to transfer solely emails and contacts from XP OE6 to Vista Home.
a) Can I pick this alone, with the wizard ?
b) If Yes, How ? -- I don't find a choice to transfer only emails and address book.
c) If No, what is the alternative ?
I am trying to get a Vista Laptop to print to a XP desktop. It appears instead of setting it up as a network printer, I install as local printer and use UNC naming(\computernameprintername) to connect to the printer.
The problem I have it that Vista isn't consistent in it's add a printer wizard or there is something wrong with this laptop.
On my Vista Ultimate when I go to add a printer I get a list of manufactures and models. On this laptop with Vista Business, the wizard looks the same but never shows the list of manufactures or models. I have a choice of 'window update' or 'have disk'. Since there is no disk for an HP printer for Vista I choose 'window update', but it only has 5 Deskjet printers and none are the one I have (920c). I have installed two of the drives from this location and can get the printer to send a blank piece of paper (which
is good, it shows I have the connection to the network printer), I just have the wrong driver.
1. Tell me if this will work. Install the printer locally, then try the local port to connect to the printer and let it use the drivers it used to install it locally?
OR
2. Insert my Vista Ultimate DVD when it asks if I have the disk and make it search the DVD for the driver. I guess I could do the same with the current install as the drivers have to be there somewhere.
I have been trying to play 1602ad on Windows Vista and it needs to be run in 256 color mode. I have run the compatiblity wizard like everyone has told me to and it doesn't change anything. I have even gone straight to the application and told it to run in 256 mode and nothing happens game still won't work. Is there a driver or something I can download to get my monitor to display in 256. I have and generic PnP monitor.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter I upgraded my notebook to Vista from XP, I cannot add printers to the system. Before install, all printers where listed, but after install, nothing. Not even the document printer from MS Office. When I try to add my network printer, I get a "Local Print Spooler not started" message and when I manullay start that service, i receive an "error 0x000006be" when I try to re-install my network printer. I know that it is not a printer driver issue. Does any one have any fixes or know where I can find a fix. Cannot find anything in the MS Knowledgebases.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was in the process of trying to get internet access on my Xbox 360, so I plugged it into my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L305-S5921) and as soon as I did my wireless connection went from full connection to either local only or identifying (one of the two). So I no longer have internet on not only my laptop, but I still can't figure out how to connection share to my Xbox. This happened before, but somehow it fixed itself? I tried reinstalling the wireless drivers to no avail; it didn't fix the problem. So if anyone can help me diagnose this problem, This is pretty urgent because I need to be able to use the internet for homework.

Now I recently got internet and I think the speed is 2.1mb I know it is not much but it is enough to run xbox live or computer gaming I think, But I have a pesky step sister who refuses to stop download movies and tv series, and I have confronted her with it but it does not work at all, now I have a router and I have been looking around relentlessly trying to figure out how to either block her from certain sites put a certain bandwidth on her computer but I just can't seem to find it.
My router is a Belkin N150 I have pulled up the router config and there is nothing I can visually see that will do any of what I need, it does not have parental controls or block specific sites, I don't want to block her from complete access just from that because it lags me not only on my computer but I can't even play xbox live its frustrating
i have divx movies in my windows media center and they ll play on my computer but on my 360. i get an error saying i need a different codec for it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was having a small driver problem when connecting the Xbox 360 wired controller to my Vista x64 Home Premium machine. There were two instances of the controller in the Device Manager:
1. Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
2. Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)
I downloaded the drivers for the controller from the MS site: Download Gaming Software. Once I installed the MS drivers, the device "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" was successfully installed, but the other device "Controller (XBOX 360 For Windows)" would not install the necessary driver. Even Windows Update couldn't find the appropriate drivers for it...........
I recently had an issue with my xbox 360 extender after disabling one of the media center extender services in vista x64 ultimate. After trying trying to connect to the media center service i got this error: Connection Failed
The Xbox 360 cannot connect to the Media Center based PC. Make sure the Media Center based PC is turned on and connected to the network. If you continue to see this error, check Media Center Extender Help on your Media Center based PC. Did a little digging and found this MS KB which resolved my problem.
Until recently, my scanner & camera wizard worked fine when I plugged in my memory card reader. Then it just stopped appearing when I plugged in the device. It just doesn't appear. I have seen other posts about changing registry entries, but I didn't want to mess with that until I was sure. How to I fix this so the scanner & camera wizard will autoplay?

Would you like to reconnect? Vista Ultimate is installed on my laptop for work and I wanted to see how this works but never got it connected. I was able to determine that the cause was the Novell Client for Vista version 1.x, it seems all versions cause this problem. Now I need the client for work and have already filled a bug report with Novell but have not been able to see were to report a bug with MS. I assume it is a Novell issue but I have seen MS KB fixes for novell so wanted to report it to both sides.This never worked with or without sp1 for vista.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the xbox 360 PC controller (USB). Upon receiving last Xmas worked fine until my last reformat. Since then every time I run a game to use the controller it plays for a round maybe 1.5 rounds per game then the controller bails, basically shuts down / disconnects. Windows says unknown usb devise detected. It takes 2x or so reconnecting the controller sometimes a reboot to start the cycle over again.
I went a bunch of pages back on this forum and followed a somewhat simular issue. downloaded drivers from the MS site as well as Win Update even used basic CD install. Same issue all the way through however the last attempt following this thread here (Installing Xbox 360 Wired Controller) activated the controller for nearly 45 mins straight then bailed as usual. So I was looking for advice or anyone else whom might have run into this issue.
I can stream to the xbox via media player or extender, play movies or music for about 10 mins, sometimes less, the xbox reports lost connectiuon to pc. When i go to pc there is no internet connection and have to reboot pc to recover and so we start again with same problemsduring all this even when the xbox cannot see the pc i can still connect to
xboxlive so the router is not the issue, it must be the network card on the pc I am thinking.

I have tried fixed connection cable to router or wireless same reuslts.
First I had a linksys router and Media Center Extender worked grate, but the router broken, then I bought a Netgear wgr614 v.9. But since I started to used it. My Media Center does not recognize the xbox anymore. My xbox live works fine and I can see my xbox through the windos but I can't connect to Extender. what is the problem with my extender?

Hopefully we can get something moving from this thread. Recently I decided to move from Vista x32 to Vista x64 due to memory upgrade limitations. Upon loading up Vista x64 I discovered that while my media sharing worked just fine I was unable to setup my 360 to be an MCE.Upon researching all of the solutions posted out there and trying them all, I decided to do some controlled tests to see if I could replicate the issue. EACH series was conducted on FRESHLY loaded installations of Vista Ultimate and here's the results. Setup parameters
MCE: Xbox 360 Elite Edition
MCPC: Intel based Core 2 Duo System with 4GB RAM @ 3.00Ghz (DP35DP)
The base connectivity is a 3COM unmanaged 10/100 switch connected into a Cisco ASA 5505 which is bridged to QWEST DSL via a Cisco 678 DSL modem. All drops in the residence have been checked for interference and signal quality, all passing with flying colors. A Server 2008 based Active Directory Domain is present in this configuration with GPO enforced to the Computers via a link to the OU that contains all PC's. There is also an Exchange 2007 server present in this configuration. When each test is completed, the XBOX is wiped to factory defaults to ensure a fresh approach.....
Now that us Vista users can chat to our Xbox 360 fellow mates via Messenger, I noticed they both have the game Uno. Any idea when we will be able to play each other online?

My wife's laptop, running vista home basic, only came with works word processor loaded, and cannot open docx files. Although I put zamzar on her favourites it can, when busy, take time to get the link, so I am after some freeware to convert and/or view the file.I don't think she is fussed about being able to edit it. Can anyone recommend something?Although she only needs a very basic wp I was thinking about downloading openoffice for her, as I noticed in my searches that it had a file converter wizard- will that handle docx?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI seem to have lost some programs. It's all rather baffling as this has never happened to me before. I installed all the software that came with my shiny new (well it was when I bought it!) JVC Everio hard drive camcorder.No problems there as it all worked fine. The only thing was that I didn't really like using it. I found d/l'ing my recordings through windows and using windows Movie Maker to be a lot less bothersome and easier than the JVC stuff. I've been doing that for a while now so I thought I'd uninstall all the JVC stuff.Went to do this and I just can't uninstall it.
There's two ways to do this.The first way I tried was to go into my start menu, where you can hover over the program which brings up a box with different options to do with the program, like run it, read the help stuff and all the other things you can do. At the bottom of this is the 'uninstall this program option. (I've used this method to uninstall lots of other programs in the past with no bother at all)....................
I have selected all the internet options and my internet connection is working fine but Windows Media Player keeps saying I must run the Internet connection Wizard. I can't connect to Media Guide or Stores. I've also tried disabling the firewall.

When I launch the media center wizard, when it gets to the place where it sets out to test the speakers, it stops working and 'has to close.' I have uninstalled Nero 7, my anti-virus software, flv player as well as the other speaker utility that came with the motherboard (SoundMax BlackHawk) and run the 'scannow utility' but so far nothing has worked. For what it is worth, the same fault module version is showing up every time I attempt to import a video file (dv) into the storyboard in windows movie maker:confused:... If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'm all ears!
I ran the disk cleanup wizard the other night on my C drive. It scanned my C drive as normal and then came up with results to clean, one of which was for error reporting logs which wasnt ticked by default, but was apparently 99gigs worth! I thought this was pretty interesting seeing as my C drive is only 32gig big, so out of curiosity I ticked the box to cleanup the 99gig of logs, and sat back and watched. Everything seemed fine after it finished, but I rebooted to be sure and then my wallpaper went missing. I went to set the wallpaper back to what it was..... and noticed the file was missing. Then I checked the start menu, all my programs have been removed! (example, powerdvd gone, alcohol 120 gone, winzip etc all gone and nothing working, not just removed from the start menu, but also uninstalled from hdd)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am struggling to connect my XBox 360, as a Media Center Extender, to my HP Pavilion TX1410US laptop (which is running Vista Home Premium). I had a Windows XP Media Center computer hooked up over my existing home network and it worked fine. I deleted that connection through the first computer and disconnected it through the 360 as well. I was able to obtain a new setup key through the 360 and enter it into Media Center on the Vista computer.
On the 360 side, I am able to get an all black screen that says "Windows Media Center contacting..." in the center of my TV (through the 360), but it always ends with a "Connection Terminated" or "Media Center Extender Error." On the Vista side, I am able to go through all of the steps of setting up an Extender, but it always fails to connect at the last step.
I know that the two can see each other, as I am able to stream music from the Vista computer to the 360... I just cannot make the Media Center work! I have spent a lot of time troubleshooting this using online forums and Microsoft instructional pages. I installed Vista SP1 about halfway through and achieved the same results as before.................
I bought a new laptop with Vista already installed on it. I want to install XP in a multi boot configuration but get stuck in Disk Management and am unable to proceed from there. I'd like to keep Vista on my laptop, but if it comes down to it I'll need to take it off and put on XP because our work computers run with XP and we do a lot of work on reports and presentations from home and network from home. I can't find the New Partition Wizard to make a space for XP.
