Until recently, my scanner & camera wizard worked fine when I plugged in my memory card reader. Then it just stopped appearing when I plugged in the device. It just doesn't appear. I have seen other posts about changing registry entries, but I didn't want to mess with that until I was sure. How to I fix this so the scanner & camera wizard will autoplay?
the xp scanner and camer wizard and i cant get my head around the new vista photo gallery & automatic scanner. all i want to be able to do is once i scan in a photo, is resize it to fit te page, but i cant seem to do this with vista - the xp scanner had a preview button which you could then just click to fit the screen
When I plug in a digital camera, I no longer see the autoplay dialog. This is not a driver issue because (a) autoplay doesn't work for any camera I connect, and (b) it was working fine a few days ago. The system does recognize the cameras because they're listed in Explorer and I have no problem getting pictures from them. When a camera is connected, the cursor changes briefly to a wait cursor, but then nothing else happens.
i have videos on my laptop and i renamed one of them, i renamed all of them before so this is the first time this has happened, anyway now it doesn't auto play i use VLC media player to play my movies (.avi) on all of them. now after rename i have to manualy click what application to play the file. the option at the bottom that says use this program for all video files or somthing like that is grayed out so im a bit stumped.
Is it possible for me to disable the autoplay option for my usb drives/thumb drives alone? I need the option of autoplay for my optical drives but i want to disable the same option for my usb drives to avoid viruses..
Is there an easy way to add WinDVD9 to my autoplay choices for Blu-Ray and regular DVD's in Vista x64? For some reason its not listed as an option and I can't figure out how to add it on my own. I know I can always cancel autoplay and launch the App and then open the DVD that way but would be nice to figure out how to set it up so it shows as an option in my Autoplay list.
I just did a clean install on my dell with vista home premium (32). Everything works fine except no music CDs, DVDs, or software CDs will autoplay. I've changed the settings in CP to different selections and it still doesn't work.
I want to remove some programs from the autoplay menu but don't want to uninstall, for example Nero but just remove Nero's photoscap viewer from the menu when I insert an SD card to upload images. I'd rather Nikon's ViewNX were on the menu but it isn't. Any ideas how to get it there? Windows Vista help only tells me how to change autoplay defaults, not how to list or unlist on the autofault menu.
When i plug my ipod into the USB i get an autoplay popup giving me options to open folder to view files or speed up my system. No matter how long i wait after that my ipod will not show up on iTunes. I've tried disabling autoplay, but that still wont work.
Every time I connect the iPhone to my PC Windows shows an AutoPlay dialog with four useless options. I want Windows to do nothing because iTunes automatically starts to charge and sync my device. Unfortunately, there is not a “do nothing” option on this screen like other AutoPlay dialogs....
Somehow, the Media Center Autoplay entries in the registry got removed. Anyone know how to fix them? For XP, there is the Autoplay Repair Wizard that Ms offers, but they don't seem to have anything for Vista x64 MC.
I want to set my autoplay defaults but I don't know if I should set them for Media Player or Media Center? I am really not sure what the difference is? I don't want the autoplay to open and ask me every time, so I want to make some choices here. I watch movies and the things that come to me from friends, and whatever it is that opens with those automatically, I all I need, but I want to set the autoplay to only those, so that will not keep coming up and asking me what I want to open. H.E.L.P.
I want to have certain items open in a program that is not listed in the drop down box for that item. For example, for my Canon camera, I want it to open with zoombrowser and yet zoombrowser is not one of my choices. One other program wants to open with Omnipage version 14 - yet I have updated to version 17 and it does not show in the drop down box. How can I add programs. I am doing all this in the Autoplay portion of my Control Panel and have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
Running Vista Home Prem 32Bit. This portable HDD is Powered off the 2.0 USB Port. The 1st time I connected the HDD to my PC, I saw Driver Installing...Driver Properly Installed. The AutoPlay Window opened...the one that provides selections, View Files, Etc. The AutoPlay Window only opened that 1 time, it no longer Opens when I connect the HDD. The HDD is running fine, I here the 2 Beeps when connecting, I can access the HDD thru My Computer, I can save and delete files...so it is working Fine. But since the 1st time, the AutoPlay Window no longer opens. I can connect a Thumb drive to the same Port and the AutoPlay Window Opens...so it is not the PC.
I have contacted the HDD Tech Unit and Dell (Purchased and is being connected to a dell PC)...both units said the problem was with the OS since AutoPlay is a function of the OS. I explained, all other devices connected opens the AutoPlay Window...if it was an OS issue, AutoPlay would not open for any devices.
I am trying to get a Vista Laptop to print to a XP desktop. It appears instead of setting it up as a network printer, I install as local printer and use UNC naming(\computernameprintername) to connect to the printer.
The problem I have it that Vista isn't consistent in it's add a printer wizard or there is something wrong with this laptop.
On my Vista Ultimate when I go to add a printer I get a list of manufactures and models. On this laptop with Vista Business, the wizard looks the same but never shows the list of manufactures or models. I have a choice of 'window update' or 'have disk'. Since there is no disk for an HP printer for Vista I choose 'window update', but it only has 5 Deskjet printers and none are the one I have (920c). I have installed two of the drives from this location and can get the printer to send a blank piece of paper (which is good, it shows I have the connection to the network printer), I just have the wrong driver.
1. Tell me if this will work. Install the printer locally, then try the local port to connect to the printer and let it use the drivers it used to install it locally? OR 2. Insert my Vista Ultimate DVD when it asks if I have the disk and make it search the DVD for the driver. I guess I could do the same with the current install as the drivers have to be there somewhere.
I have been trying to play 1602ad on Windows Vista and it needs to be run in 256 color mode. I have run the compatiblity wizard like everyone has told me to and it doesn't change anything. I have even gone straight to the application and told it to run in 256 mode and nothing happens game still won't work. Is there a driver or something I can download to get my monitor to display in 256. I have and generic PnP monitor.
After I upgraded my notebook to Vista from XP, I cannot add printers to the system. Before install, all printers where listed, but after install, nothing. Not even the document printer from MS Office. When I try to add my network printer, I get a "Local Print Spooler not started" message and when I manullay start that service, i receive an "error 0x000006be" when I try to re-install my network printer. I know that it is not a printer driver issue. Does any one have any fixes or know where I can find a fix. Cannot find anything in the MS Knowledgebases.
After I install Gears of War I get a "Instullation wizard has stopped running and my start up code has been modifed. When I go the the main menu O the game and press play I am stoped and a message pops up that says it can not be played on a modifed code.
My Vista Ultimate box will not recognize the Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender. I do see the Xbox 360 in my network devices, but i do not see the install option. Additionally, it will not find the Xbox through the Extnder wizard in Media Center. I have network discovery, file sharing and media sharing enabled. However, i am able to UPNP share via Windows Media Player.
ON SUNDAY MARCH 2ND I DECIDED TO REINSTALL VISTA HOME PREMIUM BECAUSE ICOULDN'T GET WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER TO WORK. AFTERWARDS, WHEN I PLUGGED INMY SEAGATE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE AND TRIED TO USE THE BACKUP WIZARD I SAW THIS MESSAGE: -"THE DISK CONTAINING THE BACKUP IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED ON AND CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER." -I PANICKED AT FIRST BECAUSE I THOUGHT THIS MEANT THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE FILES ON MY SEAGATE, BUT I REMEMBERED THAT I COULD GO THE LONG WAY BY GOING THROUGH WINDOWS EXPLORER AND CLICKING ON FOLDER AFTER FOLDER AFTER FOLDER, ETC. I WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE TO DO THIS, ESPECIALLY SINCE ALL I'M LOOKING FOR IS JUST-ONE -FOLDER!
My wife's laptop, running vista home basic, only came with works word processor loaded, and cannot open docx files. Although I put zamzar on her favourites it can, when busy, take time to get the link, so I am after some freeware to convert and/or view the file.I don't think she is fussed about being able to edit it. Can anyone recommend something?Although she only needs a very basic wp I was thinking about downloading openoffice for her, as I noticed in my searches that it had a file converter wizard- will that handle docx?
I seem to have lost some programs. It's all rather baffling as this has never happened to me before. I installed all the software that came with my shiny new (well it was when I bought it!) JVC Everio hard drive camcorder. No problems there as it all worked fine. The only thing was that I didn't really like using it. I found d/l'ing my recordings through windows and using windows Movie Maker to be a lot less bothersome and easier than the JVC stuff. I've been doing that for a while now so I thought I'd uninstall all the JVC stuff.Went to do this and I just can't uninstall it.
There's two ways to do this. The first way I tried was to go into my start menu, where you can hover over the program which brings up a box with different options to do with the program, like run it, read the help stuff and all the other things you can do. At the bottom of this is the 'uninstall this program option. (I've used this method to uninstall lots of other programs in the past with no bother at all)....................
I have selected all the internet options and my internet connection is working fine but Windows Media Player keeps saying I must run the Internet connection Wizard. I can't connect to Media Guide or Stores. I've also tried disabling the firewall.
Running Vistax64, Sp1, clean install on a new home built machine. When I launch the media center wizard, when it gets to the place where it sets out to test the speakers, it stops working and 'has to close.' I have uninstalled Nero 7, my anti-virus software, flv player as well as the other speaker utility that came with the motherboard (SoundMax BlackHawk) and run the 'scannow utility' but so far nothing has worked. Here is the report, for those of you that can understand this:
*product* Media Center *Problem*APPCRASH *Date*24/04/2008 10:10 AM *Status*Report Sent *Description*Stopped working...
For what it is worth, the same fault module version is showing up every time I attempt to import a video file (dv) into the storyboard in windows movie maker:confused:... If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'm all ears!
I ran the disk cleanup wizard the other night on my C drive. It scanned my C drive as normal and then came up with results to clean, one of which was for error reporting logs which wasnt ticked by default, but was apparently 99gigs worth! I thought this was pretty interesting seeing as my C drive is only 32gig big, so out of curiosity I ticked the box to cleanup the 99gig of logs, and sat back and watched. Everything seemed fine after it finished, but I rebooted to be sure and then my wallpaper went missing. I went to set the wallpaper back to what it was..... and noticed the file was missing. Then I checked the start menu, all my programs have been removed! (example, powerdvd gone, alcohol 120 gone, winzip etc all gone and nothing working, not just removed from the start menu, but also uninstalled from hdd)
I bought a new laptop with Vista already installed on it. I want to install XP in a multi boot configuration but get stuck in Disk Management and am unable to proceed from there. I'd like to keep Vista on my laptop, but if it comes down to it I'll need to take it off and put on XP because our work computers run with XP and we do a lot of work on reports and presentations from home and network from home. I can't find the New Partition Wizard to make a space for XP.
Can anyone comment on whether they think an Avast's AV scanner is any good. I just got finished fixing a friends 2 month old Vista laptop that wouldn't start up. I managed to boot it into `the last known good configuration' then ran CCleaner, MBAM, SAS and Spybot. WU's were downlevel.
Just seems like with Avast running on this machine things got pretty screwed up to the point where it wouldn't start normally at all. I don't think Windows Defender was invoked either but it is now.
I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and just installed a new Lexmark x4650 all-in-one. I can print perfectly when it is connected wirelessly (through the printer's internal connection to the network), but it won't recognize there is a scanner on it. If I connect it via USB, it works. I have tried disabling both the firewall (McAfee and Windows) and the wireless router. I can't see to find anyone who can print but not scan over the network.
