I've just ordered a low profile 9800GT for my Dell 531s(slim tower). I was wondering about the power supply. Will the power supply fit into my computer as well?(if possible please just answer yes or no to this question). Heres the power supply i was looking at. and if that does not fit, does this fit? If not, where i can i get a power supply that is about 450W-500W that will fit into my Dell 531s?
My PSU is Seasonic 700W 80plus Can my power supply handle my hardware?......

I was taking a nap and when I woke up the power supply was dead. I replaced the power supply and have it all hooked up, but I now can't get my computer to boot up. The light on the MOBO is on, and everything seems to be good. One thing I noticed is the CPU fan no longer goes on where it had been previously plugged in. However, if I plug it in elsewhere, the fan works. So, now the question seems to be, is the CPU bad or is something wrong with the MOBO? Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I can test either or any other thoughts on troubleshooting?
I recently purchased a HP 6180, Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5ghz. 6 gig of ram, 1333 fsb. Here is my problem. I purchased a Corsair 750 watt power supply to run the new video card I just purchased. I believe in installing one thing at a time and test it to make sure all is well. (I have not installed the video card until I get the power supply Issue resolved first). The power supply was a pretty basic install. When I start the system everything runs ok until windows starts to load. The black screen with the little green night rider bar then the system shuts down. I went into cmos and looked for adjustments and tried a few and no luck. I ran the diagonistics for the processor and hard drive and ram. All checked out ok. The power supply is working ok, otherwise I would not be able to do anything. Every time windows vista 64 home prem goes to boot the system shuts down and then restarts. I tried the reload f11 tool and no luck. As soon as I reinstall the 300watt stock power supply back into the computer, everything works fine. HP is sending me recovery disks or something, but I don't think that is the problem. Maybe if I reload windows with the new power supply installed it will work.
when my PC is on, life is good. Everything works. No problems. Vista is set to shut down the power after 30 minutes and put the PC into sleep mode. At that point, the PC seems 'Off' until I hit a key/move the mouse; and it 'wakes up'. It seems like, sometimes, the PC will not wake up. when I hit the keyboard, moved the mouse - nothing. I hit the power button (held it in for 5+ seconds), hit the reset button...and still nothing. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in. NOTHING. So, I opened my case and gave my PSU a fairly gentle tap and I noticed some tiny LEDs on the MB light up. At that point, I hit the power button - and the PC came to life. Vista said it was 'resuming windows' but everything was crawling about about 10% of the speed it should be. I had to reboot, after rebooting, everything was fine.
It does wake up sometimes though, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, the only way I can seem to get it to turn back on is to 'bang' a bit on the PSU; but the power has never gone 'out' while I was playing on the computer (which is a lot of time). If the PSU was bad and there is a short or something and when I bang on it, it reconnects....I can't explain why it never 'shorts out' or comes loose while I'm using the PC.
If it were a bug with Vista, I could see how or why it might work sometimes and not other times, and why the power never dies while I'm using the PC....but I can't understand how my 'tap' on the PSU could get it to turn back on. Basically - I have no idea WTF is going on. A new PSU would be ~$100 dollars and I'd hate to replace it if there is nothing wrong. my tap on the PSU is not affecting the connection between the PSU and Motherboard. The PSU is at the bottom of my case and my tap is really not very hard at all.
I have set up a power plan in Vista Home Premuim 64Bit on my laptop. Is there anyway to have the laptop change to that plan when its plugged into the mains and stay on another one when its on battery? Or do I have to keep changing it?
Im working on Compaq something tower. Doing a favor for the mother in law. This tower is her co-workers and asked if I could look at it. At first glance, all the internal cables and wired are firmly attached. So I direct my attention to the power source, It is equipped with a green led light (to tell its getting power I assume). This little green light is not lighting up when plugged in. Its doing nothing. Power source model is a Bestec ATX-250-12z
i have an hp laptop running vista home premium. Well my girl hit the power button to put it into hibernation, she said it didnt do anything. Then she went to the start menu and put it into hibernate from there. now the pc will not power on, it is showing no signs of power whatsoever. The onlt sign of power to the machine is the little light around the AC input jac is lit up when its plugged in.
I Kept Installing Ubuntu And Windows All The Time Every Day All Day And All Night. Just FYI. Once I Powered Off The Computer. Just FYI. I Didn't Know How To Power It Up. Just FYI. I Had To Have My Dad, Who Used To Work As A Janitor At The FBI To Help Me. Just FYI. My Dad Showed Me Where The Power Switch Is. Just FYI. Dad Said To Make Sure Not To Put A Drink In The Cup Holder In The Front Of The PC.
Is there a way to tune down Vista's hunger for RAM and GPU power? I could play Counter Strike: Source better on my laptop which had a single core AMD Turion 1.8ghz cpu, 1gig ram and X1600 gpu than my brand-spanking new Asus laptop which has a 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 2gig of ram and ATI HD 3470. This is just plain ridiculous that a newer laptop and newer software give me WORSE performance for a relatively old game. And it just isn't CS:S that's a problem either. Startup and shutdown time is WAY too long
my freind advised me to come here with my problem before i phoned the manufacturer to see. basicaly iv had my laptop for 2 months now so its rather new running Vista home edition, im having troubles when the Ac/DC cable is plugged in the light on the front flashes saying it is charging but it still loses power at a fast rate. it also wont start charging unless i fiddle with the power cable for 5-10 mins. i know it cant be the cable itself coz i bought a new charger.
When I tried reload the windows, It would not start and only show: Please do not Power off or unplug your machine Installing Update 3 of 5 (Or Installing 5 of 5). It will last forever, The only way is turn off and unplug the machine to let it start windows. I do not know if it is really update windows vista, CA antivirus or some other program. I do not know other person have some experience
Hi! I've just gotten a new Vista machine after having XP Pro for a few years. So far, I've had no difficulties and am qvery pleased with perfomance etc., with one exception.
In XP, the moment I pulled the plug on my laptop, it would switch power plans to my "battery" one (i.e. darken the screen, change how it shuts down and so forth.)
In Vista, when I pull the plug, other than the screen going darker, nothing happens. I'm told that I'm still in "High Perfomance" mode, which could affect battery life.
So how do I tell my computer that when I switch to battery, it's to change plans to Power Saver automatically?
When ever i leave my computer idled for a long time the monitors turn black and i can't do anything but shut it down and start it up again. When i shut it down it says "Out of range input 1" Then i turn it off again and this time it has an error saying Vista didn't start up correctly, then i hit "start windows normally" then i can do stuff. How do i wake it up without shutting it down.

Mankind uses speech extensively to communicate. Imagine how your life would be affected if you did not have the power of speech. You would carry your handy dandy keyboard and instant printer around with you daily. If a friend were about to step off the curb and get run over by traffic, you would frantically whip out your keyboard, type WATCH OUT! in big bold letters, and wave it in front of his face. Imagine your frustration at the local grocery store, as you and the checker exchange notes about the on-special price of an item, while the line builds up behind you..............
Just wanted you to know that I have installed LG 6X Super-Multi Blu Ray burner model # GGW-H20L, using Vista X64 Ultimate, and Power DVD Ultra 8. This runs so amazing that I am completely replacing my DVD collection with Blu Ray. The quality and sound is impeccable, and blows ordinary DVD's in the water. I have attached a few screen shots from the movie Jumper for your viewing.
I have never been able to achieve a normal power off using the power switch, but had to use the options provided by Vista Home Premium. I am still having problems with dekstop freezing, and with frustration I pressed the power switch rapidly several times and to my surprise it shut itself down - legally. Nothing like the action you get by holding in the power switch for about 5 seconds.
Is my power switch now operating normally after being faulty for almost 2 years, or is it now faulty, providing a shutdown which should not be available?
Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I can not get PP viewer to work. New computer running Vista, I downloaded the viewer and when I click on a link it comes up with the message to make sure it is linked to the correct program. I have gone into default assoc and PPS is connected to Power Point Viewer. It worked on XP Pro computer, what do I need to do? Have restarted after downloading thinking maybe that would work.
I put my computer put it into what I think is standby mode, the one that "puts your computer in a low power state so you can quickly resume working" (I remember the text, but not the specific name lol). The monitor turned off and I left the room before hearing the computer shut off. I returned to my computer some 12 hours later and it was still on with the HD access light solid red, and with the monitor off and the power button blinking, waiting for a signal. I said to myself, boy thats weird. I held the power button in and shut it down. I pushed to power button to reboot and nothing happened. It didn't turn on.
I pulled the power cord from the back of the power supply and drained any remaining juice from my rig, then plugged it back in, pushed the power button, and voila, on it came. It then booted up like it would if it were fully in standby / sleep / hibernate mode and the power went out starting up with 'resuming windows' and then going insanely slow as it tries to return all programs to the state they were in when the power failed.
My sisters PCz keeps going to sleep. I changed power options to never but each time she restarts the PC the settings go back to previous settings. i have looked around here for answers but nothing applies to her pc. all was fine before SP1 but i dont think that is the problem.
i can't modify my power settings. When i try to change my power plan settings it says that my power plan info isnt available. I then go to the FAQ part and it says "If your computer is part of a network at an organization—such as a school, government agency, or business—your organization's system administrator might have made certain settings unavailable or even removed them by using Group Policy. Group Policy is a feature of Windows that lets system administrators manage users' access to Windows features. If you think that Group Policy is preventing you from changing a setting that you need to access, contact your system administrator."
I have NO idea what this means.. this is my personal computer and is not part of any newtworks. I then tried to change my account type to "standard user" so i could fix the problem, but my computer won't let me. I even created a new user account and made that one a standard user but it didn't fix the probelm. How do i gain access to my power plan so i can modify it?
My bro wants to get his pc running vista & wants a dx10 capable card with a bit more power. Hes looking for cards in the £100 area. Currently he has my old 7900gs 512mb which is an ok card for what he does gaming wise, but if we're going to upgrade, i want something at least a little more powerful.
I want to know how the 9600 cards compare to a 7900gs & what kind of heat they kick out. The 7900 runs about 45c so i want to try get something that runs close to that if possible. ps, looking at this one so far BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
