My bro wants to get his pc running vista & wants a dx10 capable card with a bit more power. Hes looking for cards in the £100 area. Currently he has my old 7900gs 512mb which is an ok card for what he does gaming wise, but if we're going to upgrade, i want something at least a little more powerful.
I want to know how the 9600 cards compare to a 7900gs & what kind of heat they kick out. The 7900 runs about 45c so i want to try get something that runs close to that if possible. ps, looking at this one so far BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

I upgraded a machine to Vista and was running under DX10, when a game I installed regressed the libraries and files to DX9. Is it possible to run a file and bring my Vista rig back to DX10?
I have the Gigabyte GT-PTV-AF-RH TV Tuner, for which I've downloaded the appropriate Vista x64 driver from the Gigbyte website (www.gigabyte.com.tw). Media Center still cannot see the tuner, as it says "No Tuner Hardware Found" (although I can use the remote in a limited fashion). The Tuner is working, IF I use the bundled Cyberlink PowerCinema. I'd really prefer to use Windows Media Center.
Gigabyte tells me I need to install the MCECodec, which is provided by Cyberlink. Oddly enough, Cyberlink says they're only responsible for Cyberlink Powercinema, and need to contact the card manufactuer.
Gigabyte DOES have a download for XPMCE x64, but the installer says it won't work with Vista x64.
Where can I get the MCECodec so that my tuner card can work with MCE?
If there is no solution, perhaps a recomendation on replacing the Gigabyte tuner with one from another manufacturer that is proven to work with Vista x64 Media Center and that comes supplied with a Media Center Remote Control?
I have only 2 dimms of ram installed in my computer 2x1024mb in dual channel. 1 Question) Is my 2GB crucial ballistix PC2 800Mhz enough and capable for a GOOD GAMING? Did i lag in anything? As fps,texture details,colors,light,speed,etc?

Having run the update advisor, it turns out that my computer isn't fully capable of running Windows Aero (shock). The advisor recommended that I chose Home Basic, but I would be able to run Premium, just without the Aero graphics. So my first choice is, Basic or Premium (lacking few features)? My second choice, is after I decide which version, whether I should get the upgrade package or shell out for the full version, just incase?
Why does assassins creed run in a window when using dx10 mode? There is also no way to set the game as full screen in the options either. ps I have found a fixed .exe that runs it in fullscreen, but i think the author just renmed the dx9.exe to dx10.exe. Is there a way to tell if the game is running in dx10 mode?
I was informed by the developers over at Flagship Studios that I may have a corrupt install of DX10 on my system. I went to reinstall DX10 but it tells me that I have the most up to date version and aborts the install. Does anyone know a way I can reinstall DX10? Also, I would like to try intalling DX9c to see if it helps any. Can someone link me to wich download I should use for this?

I certain its a hardware issue but i was just curious. don't they both broadcast on the 802.11 band (is it called a band?)? so why wouldn't they be capable of either or? (i know bluetooth uses smaller wave lengths and wifi larger, that much i do know) it would probably be impractical to try wifi on bluetooth band as you would get severely reduced performance. but why not bluetooth on wifi band?
I hear you can choose to play games in either dx9 or dx10 when you right click on shortcut and select it from the menu. When i do this for instance i dont see the option available, once i saw with crysis launching analysis then it went away.
After doing a bit of homework and finding literally thousands of posts scatterd across the web, and having a very annoying hang up call with an intern at MS, I suppose I am chasing a moot point, however here's the deal. I run a small lighting and sound company. I have 8 different computers configured for different things as far as shows are concerned. Just built 2 biostar TA780g rigs with ati dual x850 cards. AMD4600x2 for a cpu, ram at 4gig. Vista 32 "ultimate" sp1. These are to replace some older socket a stuff and none of them do games but we DO extensive 3d video displays at theaters, live band venues and so on. Too many problems with intel, nvidia and our apps, so we are all amd / ati here.
Yesterday while managing some fresh mp3 rips with a program called Tagscanner, which I have used for years, got a bsod, and when everything came back all was well except that Vista changed everything to read only. we are talking about over 300,000 assorted mp3's,music video files, Karaoke cdg files, and xml lighting scene files that i can no longer do anything with spread across four harddrives. since the software apps we use make extensive use of the write-rewrite xmls constantly,now two of our apps lockup on startup. I would not even be here except that the 780g chipset and nvidia geforce 8 and up require dx10 to function at full potential.
So my questions: 1. Does anyone know anything about regaining control over disc management properties in vista?
2. ive heard rumors that there are ways of getting dx10 to run on xp, and it's still in its experimental stages. ANY GOOD info on that would be welcome- two sites i hit last night got me some nice trojans. But if it is real, I am sooooo back to ................
I have set up a power plan in Vista Home Premuim 64Bit on my laptop. Is there anyway to have the laptop change to that plan when its plugged into the mains and stay on another one when its on battery? Or do I have to keep changing it?
Im working on Compaq something tower. Doing a favor for the mother in law. This tower is her co-workers and asked if I could look at it. At first glance, all the internal cables and wired are firmly attached. So I direct my attention to the power source, It is equipped with a green led light (to tell its getting power I assume). This little green light is not lighting up when plugged in. Its doing nothing. Power source model is a Bestec ATX-250-12z
i have an hp laptop running vista home premium. Well my girl hit the power button to put it into hibernation, she said it didnt do anything.Then she went to the start menu and put it into hibernate from there. now the pc will not power on, it is showing no signs of power whatsoever. The onlt sign of power to the machine is the little light around the AC input jac is lit up when its plugged in.

Is there a way to tune down Vista's hunger for RAM and GPU power? I could play Counter Strike: Source better on my laptop which had a single core AMD Turion 1.8ghz cpu, 1gig ram and X1600 gpu than my brand-spanking new Asus laptop which has a 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 2gig of ram and ATI HD 3470. This is just plain ridiculous that a newer laptop and newer software give me WORSE performance for a relatively old game. And it just isn't CS:S that's a problem either. Startup and shutdown time is WAY too long
my freind advised me to come here with my problem before i phoned the manufacturer to see. basicaly iv had my laptop for 2 months now so its rather new running Vista home edition, im having troubles when the Ac/DC cable is plugged in the light on the front flashes saying it is charging but it still loses power at a fast rate. it also wont start charging unless i fiddle with the power cable for 5-10 mins. i know it cant be the cable itself coz i bought a new charger.
When I tried reload the windows, It would not start and only show: Please do not Power off or unplug your machine Installing Update 3 of 5 (Or Installing 5 of 5). It will last forever, The only way is turn off and unplug the machine to let it start windows. I do not know if it is really update windows vista, CA antivirus or some other program. I do not know other person have some experience
I've just ordered a low profile 9800GT for my Dell 531s(slim tower). I was wondering about the power supply. Will the power supply fit into my computer as well?(if possible please just answer yes or no to this question). Heres the power supply i was looking at. and if that does not fit, does this fit? If not, where i can i get a power supply that is about 450W-500W that will fit into my Dell 531s?
Hi! I've just gotten a new Vista machine after having XP Pro for a few years. So far, I've had no difficulties and am qvery pleased with perfomance etc., with one exception.
In XP, the moment I pulled the plug on my laptop, it would switch power plans to my "battery" one (i.e. darken the screen, change how it shuts down and so forth.)
In Vista, when I pull the plug, other than the screen going darker, nothing happens. I'm told that I'm still in "High Perfomance" mode, which could affect battery life.
So how do I tell my computer that when I switch to battery, it's to change plans to Power Saver automatically?
When ever i leave my computer idled for a long time the monitors turn black and i can't do anything but shut it down and start it up again. When i shut it down it says "Out of range input 1" Then i turn it off again and this time it has an error saying Vista didn't start up correctly, then i hit "start windows normally" then i can do stuff. How do i wake it up without shutting it down.
