Im working on Compaq something tower. Doing a favor for the mother in law. This tower is her co-workers and asked if I could look at it. At first glance, all the internal cables and wired are firmly attached. So I direct my attention to the power source, It is equipped with a green led light (to tell its getting power I assume). This little green light is not lighting up when plugged in. Its doing nothing. Power source model is a Bestec ATX-250-12z
My old desktop is dying so I ordered this new HP tower to replace it. It seems it has a Phenom x4 processor, 4GB RAM and 640GB disk. Delivery is expected in a day or so. Re-reading the spec just now I am horrified to discover it will be pre-loaded with a 64bit OS. But I don't have any 64 bit applications. Use mainly MS Office, WMC, photoshop elements, CorelDraw and a finance package. Although I have a newish LCD monitor my printers and router predate VISTA. Reading the various problems with 64 bit on these forums I am frankly scared. I can't afford a learning curve and non-functionality. What do you advise that I do? Can I down-grade to 32 bit before I start to load applications? Or are the problems with 64 bit over-stated? I know the box is over-spec for what I do but I bought what was in-stock and at a reasonable price.
i have a new hp pavilion a6400f pc there is a flashing yellow light near the power button on the top of my pc tower. is this normal? it flash's all the time
I'm panicking a bit. I just received my Tuniq Tower 120 today and it is enormous- it's 153mm deep. I have a new Cosmos S case, also enormous, but it has a 200mm cooling fan on the side panel which protrudes a bit into the case. Looking at it it seems touch and go as to whether it will fit in the case and let me put the side panel on. To fit it I have to remove the mobo etc so I'm wondering if anyone knows for certain whether it will fit or not. Also, if it won't fit I'll have to return it so I don't intend even getting it out of the packaging until I can get some solid advice.
I have set up a power plan in Vista Home Premuim 64Bit on my laptop. Is there anyway to have the laptop change to that plan when its plugged into the mains and stay on another one when its on battery? Or do I have to keep changing it?
i have an hp laptop running vista home premium. Well my girl hit the power button to put it into hibernation, she said it didnt do anything. Then she went to the start menu and put it into hibernate from there. now the pc will not power on, it is showing no signs of power whatsoever. The onlt sign of power to the machine is the little light around the AC input jac is lit up when its plugged in.
I Kept Installing Ubuntu And Windows All The Time Every Day All Day And All Night. Just FYI. Once I Powered Off The Computer. Just FYI. I Didn't Know How To Power It Up. Just FYI. I Had To Have My Dad, Who Used To Work As A Janitor At The FBI To Help Me. Just FYI. My Dad Showed Me Where The Power Switch Is. Just FYI. Dad Said To Make Sure Not To Put A Drink In The Cup Holder In The Front Of The PC.
Is there a way to tune down Vista's hunger for RAM and GPU power? I could play Counter Strike: Source better on my laptop which had a single core AMD Turion 1.8ghz cpu, 1gig ram and X1600 gpu than my brand-spanking new Asus laptop which has a 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 2gig of ram and ATI HD 3470. This is just plain ridiculous that a newer laptop and newer software give me WORSE performance for a relatively old game. And it just isn't CS:S that's a problem either. Startup and shutdown time is WAY too long
my freind advised me to come here with my problem before i phoned the manufacturer to see. basicaly iv had my laptop for 2 months now so its rather new running Vista home edition, im having troubles when the Ac/DC cable is plugged in the light on the front flashes saying it is charging but it still loses power at a fast rate. it also wont start charging unless i fiddle with the power cable for 5-10 mins. i know it cant be the cable itself coz i bought a new charger.
When I tried reload the windows, It would not start and only show: Please do not Power off or unplug your machine Installing Update 3 of 5 (Or Installing 5 of 5). It will last forever, The only way is turn off and unplug the machine to let it start windows. I do not know if it is really update windows vista, CA antivirus or some other program. I do not know other person have some experience
I've just ordered a low profile 9800GT for my Dell 531s(slim tower). I was wondering about the power supply. Will the power supply fit into my computer as well?(if possible please just answer yes or no to this question). Heres the power supply i was looking at. and if that does not fit, does this fit? If not, where i can i get a power supply that is about 450W-500W that will fit into my Dell 531s?
Hi! I've just gotten a new Vista machine after having XP Pro for a few years. So far, I've had no difficulties and am qvery pleased with perfomance etc., with one exception.
In XP, the moment I pulled the plug on my laptop, it would switch power plans to my "battery" one (i.e. darken the screen, change how it shuts down and so forth.)
In Vista, when I pull the plug, other than the screen going darker, nothing happens. I'm told that I'm still in "High Perfomance" mode, which could affect battery life.
So how do I tell my computer that when I switch to battery, it's to change plans to Power Saver automatically?
When ever i leave my computer idled for a long time the monitors turn black and i can't do anything but shut it down and start it up again. When i shut it down it says "Out of range input 1" Then i turn it off again and this time it has an error saying Vista didn't start up correctly, then i hit "start windows normally" then i can do stuff. How do i wake it up without shutting it down.

Mankind uses speech extensively to communicate. Imagine how your life would be affected if you did not have the power of speech. You would carry your handy dandy keyboard and instant printer around with you daily. If a friend were about to step off the curb and get run over by traffic, you would frantically whip out your keyboard, type WATCH OUT! in big bold letters, and wave it in front of his face. Imagine your frustration at the local grocery store, as you and the checker exchange notes about the on-special price of an item, while the line builds up behind you..............
Just wanted you to know that I have installed LG 6X Super-Multi Blu Ray burner model # GGW-H20L, using Vista X64 Ultimate, and Power DVD Ultra 8. This runs so amazing that I am completely replacing my DVD collection with Blu Ray. The quality and sound is impeccable, and blows ordinary DVD's in the water. I have attached a few screen shots from the movie Jumper for your viewing.
I have never been able to achieve a normal power off using the power switch, but had to use the options provided by Vista Home Premium. I am still having problems with dekstop freezing, and with frustration I pressed the power switch rapidly several times and to my surprise it shut itself down - legally. Nothing like the action you get by holding in the power switch for about 5 seconds.
Is my power switch now operating normally after being faulty for almost 2 years, or is it now faulty, providing a shutdown which should not be available?
Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I can not get PP viewer to work. New computer running Vista, I downloaded the viewer and when I click on a link it comes up with the message to make sure it is linked to the correct program. I have gone into default assoc and PPS is connected to Power Point Viewer. It worked on XP Pro computer, what do I need to do? Have restarted after downloading thinking maybe that would work.
I put my computer put it into what I think is standby mode, the one that "puts your computer in a low power state so you can quickly resume working" (I remember the text, but not the specific name lol). The monitor turned off and I left the room before hearing the computer shut off. I returned to my computer some 12 hours later and it was still on with the HD access light solid red, and with the monitor off and the power button blinking, waiting for a signal. I said to myself, boy thats weird. I held the power button in and shut it down. I pushed to power button to reboot and nothing happened. It didn't turn on.
I pulled the power cord from the back of the power supply and drained any remaining juice from my rig, then plugged it back in, pushed the power button, and voila, on it came. It then booted up like it would if it were fully in standby / sleep / hibernate mode and the power went out starting up with 'resuming windows' and then going insanely slow as it tries to return all programs to the state they were in when the power failed.
My sisters PCz keeps going to sleep. I changed power options to never but each time she restarts the PC the settings go back to previous settings. i have looked around here for answers but nothing applies to her pc. all was fine before SP1 but i dont think that is the problem.
i can't modify my power settings. When i try to change my power plan settings it says that my power plan info isnt available. I then go to the FAQ part and it says "If your computer is part of a network at an organization—such as a school, government agency, or business—your organization's system administrator might have made certain settings unavailable or even removed them by using Group Policy. Group Policy is a feature of Windows that lets system administrators manage users' access to Windows features. If you think that Group Policy is preventing you from changing a setting that you need to access, contact your system administrator."
I have NO idea what this means.. this is my personal computer and is not part of any newtworks. I then tried to change my account type to "standard user" so i could fix the problem, but my computer won't let me. I even created a new user account and made that one a standard user but it didn't fix the probelm. How do i gain access to my power plan so i can modify it?
My bro wants to get his pc running vista & wants a dx10 capable card with a bit more power. Hes looking for cards in the £100 area. Currently he has my old 7900gs 512mb which is an ok card for what he does gaming wise, but if we're going to upgrade, i want something at least a little more powerful.
I want to know how the 9600 cards compare to a 7900gs & what kind of heat they kick out. The 7900 runs about 45c so i want to try get something that runs close to that if possible. ps, looking at this one so far BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
My laptop always automatically power off by itself. Means that it won't have the shutdown interface but automatically power off. Like we close our power on a CPU. When i power on, it will power off by itself at startup, window progress bar and the window interface. Sometime it went well until i shutdown. There are no blue screen. I have done scandisk but seem like no bad sector.
i recently bought an ATI radeon x1550 video card 256 MB dual port(dvi and vga). My power supply unit is of 230 Volts. I just want to know if its ok to put this card in my computer looking at the power supply? The reason i m asking this is because i bought this card a week ago and when i installed it, the screen worked fine just for 3-5 mins and then everything became blurry and i messy. When i removed the card, it became very hot. So i replaced the card from the shop but i m afraid to put this new card again in my computer.
