On start up lately, the computer freezes, goes black, and tower unit beeps.
Unplug it and start up in safe mode, then back to normal start up OK.
First time, all Norton definanitions gone and Vista defender shut off. restored them,
all OK.
Tried to back up files and got i/o device error (Ox8007045D)...
I've been having a problem with my computer for the last month. When starting up it freezes at the splash screen or the windows start-up screen. I may have to restart several times before it will fully start up. I ran the Western digital utility and the hard drive failed. So I installed a new hard drive and went from XP32 to Vista64. I still does it. I ran Memtest and the RAM is fine. I bypassed the surge suppressor and it still does it. Once it's running, it's fine. Other then leaving it on all the time,

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've an Asus f5sl laptop with Vista Home Premium (32bit) but it's been freezing on me lately. When I boot up, it gets to the black screen with the green bar but after a few seconds, the green bar freezes and I can't log in. Occasionally it boots up after around half an hour but then Vista periodically freezes for a few seconds before resuming (which is annoying when trying to write out something etc)
I don't see any problems in Safe Mode so is possibly a driver? I've updated all my drivers, completely updated using WIndows Update, ran antispyware, used System Restore etc. Only problem is; I've moved to a new country, and like a fool, I left my Vista start up disk back home. Which I would otherwise have tried.
I have a problem with this graphic card, when I run a game with better graphic details. My computer freeze for 2-5 second, next is black screen for 2seconds(as monitor is shuted down) and next is black screen while i don't stop the game. Next I see this-> I hope that you solve my problem(and see that image) BTW: if this problem was solved on this forum sorry, but on system instantForum i was never been and i don't know how it control. I have to power it down and then restart Windows normally. I have NVIDIA GeForce GO 7150 graphics w. 1071 mb shared video. It is set to "Let 3D Application Decide". View 8 Replies View RelatedThis computer ran Vista x64 fine for over a year. I sold it to brought it back to me the other day stating it started up, but just a black screen. First thought was power supply. Replaced the power supply with a 500 watt Thermaltake. System POST's. Gets to windows screen with the loading bar. Freezes. Decide to re-install thinking maybe there was too many unsucessful boots.
Install is VERY slow. Never have I seen it do this. It takes forever to get into the language screen. Finally once installed, Freezes at the windows screen with the loading bar underneath, yet again. Fooling around, I popped out the CMOS battery and cut all power to the system (Resetting CMOS, yes I know I can do it via Jumpers as well but I dont have the manual handy) and low and behold once I replace the battery and reboot I get into vista. I shutdown, restart to see if everythings all set. Frozen at the windows loading bar screen again...............
I recently received The Orange Box, and wish to play Half-Life 2. I am running a Vista Home Premium x64 machine updated to SP1. However, whenever I run Half-Life 2, either from within Steam or from a shortcut, Half-Life 2 starts, adjusts the screen resolution, and freezes on a black screen with a frozen Taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I have added "-32bit" to the shortcut line and have set the program to run in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode. This fix has made Portal run fine, so I don't know why it won't work for Half-Life 2.

Then as an option a message popped up asking me if i wanted to install windows service pack so i clicked yes, so as the laptop was shutting down it was installing the service pack but unfortunatly in the process the laptop was switched off by mistake. Ever since i have tried to do a recovery and tried starting windows normally but either way it ends up with a black screen with the message.

I've got my BIOS setup to turn on my computer at a certain time each morning, to complete scheduled tasks such as virus scans, disk defragmentation etc. To turn my computer off, I have to hibernate it, as my user account is password-protected and if it turns on from scratch then I would have to login before any tasks could be carried out. However, when I check up on my computer in the morning, I find that it has resumed and then frozen. Sometimes it freezes at the Resuming Windows... prompt, but most of the time it freezes at the desktop just after it turned on. Can somebody tell me how I can get my computer to stop freezing when it turns on?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAbout every couple of days, somewhere during the day the computer just freezes up entirely - can't close programs, can't even get the task manager to come up, etc. As such I can't do anything except turn the computer off. Then, when I turn it back on, of course it wants to boot back into safe mode. So I do that - then try restarting from within safe mode, and just about every time, when I try rebooting in that way, upon entering my password into the machine, the "Welcome" screen comes up and stays up for over an hour.

I have an HP computer that was running Vista nicely and smoothly. However, it appears after downloading and installing Vista SP 1, the computer has a tendency of "freezing" and the only remedy is to press the power button. I did notice that when the computer freezes, my second bay DVD drive flashes, and the activity light on the console, which indicates HD activity, constantly flashes. It is a new HP Computer running Vista Premium Home.

Anyway, When I open IE my homepage opens fine... I can go to different pages regularly for awhile... Then... I type in a website and BOOM, It wont load the page... yahoo google doesn't matter... Wont load it. Ive reset to default settings and that doesn't help... Ive deleted all my cookies and run AVG and its not finding anything. I uninstalled AVG now because if I turn on my computer it freezes it up. Ill post a copy of my HijackTHis log and maybe some of you can help me fix the problem. Also, When I go to say Google or any search engine and type in something, it searches for it... then when I click on a link that I was looking for... I am a real noob when it comes to this so please forgive this novice question. Does anyone have an idea whats wrong with it or a route i can take to attempt to find out whats wrong? View 9 Replies View RelatedPurchased a copy of windows vista ultimate and installed the 32 bit bit version and everything runs perfect, however when i try to install the 64 bit version my computer freezes either during the installation or right after the install is complete.
Ive tried everything. Installed on different hard drive, used different memory, different power supply, different CD rom drive, absolutely nothing will get the installation to not freeze. The windows event viewer is useless. I even tried 3 different install cd's. It's not overheating as far as i can tell either. Like i said vista 32 runs perfect so i cant understand whats going on? Should I RMA my motherboard? Ever heard of a cpu being defective in this way

I have to manually re-boot. Everything is fine until I leave and come back...and it is frozen again. I cannot ctrl-alt-delete either. When I went to do a system restore, I saw that all my restore points were gone. How could this have happened? I have tried turning off sleep / hybrid sleep / hibernate, but the computer still goes into "sleep" of some kind. I get no message, and nothing works except for holding down the power button to turn off the pc. When I restart there is no record of any problem in the problem history.
