At the completion of running a game in MSTS after closing I end up with a completely blank screen and the only way I can exit this screen is to press Crtl+Alt+Delete which then returns me to the opening screen displaying "log off" "change password" etc. Anyone else having the same problem. I have Vista Home Premium.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe problem I am having is when i enable my graphics card (geforce 9800 GTX) the edges of the display go out of viewing. I have tried using vista and nvidia drivers, either way once the graphic card is enabled with drivers the format changes and the edges of the display go out of screen. I am still able to click on the task bar and other windows when they are out of screen, because my mouse will also go out of screen to reach them.
If i disable my graphics card, the viewing area is fine.
My friend at work forgot his password and cannot log onto his computer. He is running Windows vista home premium on a Compaq laptop. We tried to go into the safe mode but the only screen we get is his password sign on screen. Even during boot we pressed f8 key but the password screen came up. He is hoping someone has an idea or answer so he can avoid taking it into get looked at and paying money.

I still can only log in with the old password. Someone else has access to my emails so just locking my computer is not an option because they can access my emails from their computer. So annoying! When you try to change your domain password on a vista box is tells you the username or password are incorrect, doing the same on XP machine is fine. We have another seperate 2003 AD network using the same Vista image, here we have no problem. Everyone group would appear to have change password permissions, like I say all on XP is fine but not Vista on this AD. We have update to SP1 on Vista, no change and Group Policy looks fine.

View 7 Replies View RelatedComputerA, running Windows XP 32-bit has a shared folder in read-only mode called SFiles with a sign-on of CAShare and a password of ZXJK1122. ComputerB, running Windows Vista 64, in the Network entry of Windows Explorer shows ComputerA. When I expand ComputerA I can see the SFiles shared folder undereath and when I try to click on the folder it asks me for a sign-on and password. I answer with CAShare and ZXJK1122, and it asks me if I want to save this information and I say yes. Subsequently, when I click on the SFiles shared folder it gives me read-only access to the files in the shared folder. This works excellently.
Subsequently, on ComputerA, I decide to change the password for the sign-on of CAShare from ZXJK1122 to NPPP345T. Now on ComputerB when I try to click on the SFiles shared folder in Windows Explorer I get a message of: "Windows can not access \ComputerASFiles with an error code of Ox80070005, Acces is denied."
That's fair enough, since I changed the password for the sign-on. So I want Windows Explorer on ComputerB to ask me for a new password, and I will reply NPPP345T and now have read-only access again which is fine. But it does not do this but repeatedly denies me access each time I click on the shared folder. Surely there must be some way to tell Window Explorer to get a new password from me for this share. How do I do that ? It seems impossible that Vista will keep me from accessing shared folders of another computer on my network simply because it has decided that I can not change the signon/password to the other computer's shares.
I forgot my bios password so i cant change my boot order. Is there any way to change this. Or any backdoor passwords I can use. I want to remove vista and pus xp back.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe first time vista launched I noticed that the sound at the opening logo screen was just a long hard screeching sound. Then when I started clicking around and installing my programs in the desktop environment I noticed that all the sounds had been replaced by horrific screeching sounds. After installing the Windows updates (hoping this might solve the sound problem) and my video drivers I restarted my pc. At the startup I still had the screeching sounds but now I also had white garbled lines on my desktop. When I started moving around my mouse cursor the screen started to get stuck at some places and white squares started showing up everywhere. Then finally, to end it all my pc just jumped to standby mode and all I could do is reset the pc with the powerbutton. When restarting the problem starts allover again. When starting up in save mode the white garble and squares don't show up, but the sound stays screechy.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a blue screen on the 1st day I was up and running with Windows Vista 64 (pre-loaded on my new HP Pavilion computer). Everything was working beautifully, I was very happy that it all went well and I had no major problems getting set up. Then out of the blue, nothing was going on, I went to the START menu and as soon as I touched the Start button it crashed into blue screen.

If I do not use my computer (a Lenovo T61 loaded w/ Vista Home Premium) every 15 minutes or so, it reverts to the log-in screen and I have to enter my password again. How do I extend the time period before Vista locks me out?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I initially installed Vista Premium the computer would boot directly into the Administator account. I then set up 2 accounts beside the admin and Vista boots directly into the Admin Desktop. I disabled the Admin account after establishing my other accounts with administrator rights. I know get a message saying that my password is incorrect and then after acknowledging it I go to the Account selection screen.
I would like to have the account screen come up after enabling the admin account vice having the OS boot up and drop me directly into the Admin account.
So my laptop was stolen at the airport, and I'm sure there is no way I can get it back....but how easy will it be for them to try to get pass the password protection I had on it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThere is finally an easy way (easier than before) to change your Windows Vista boot screen and use any high resolution photo as your boot screen. Using a great tool written by Dan Smith it is now possible to automatically generate the replacement language MUI file that contains your boot image files. All you need is two photos at 800x600 and 1024x768 saved as 24-bit windows bitmaps. Then follow these steps:
Download Dan Smith's Vista Boot Logo Generator.
Install and then run from the link in the Start Menu.
Hit Browse for image and select both the 800x600 and 1024x768 resolution bitmap files for your boot screen.
Click on File and select Save Boot Screen File as and save your file.
Next, you will need to replace the winload.exe.mui file in c:WindowsSystem32en-us with the one you just created. Before you copy in your new file, make a backup of the original. You will need to take ownership of all files in en-us as well as give your account file permissions to replace the file as well in order to copy the new winload.exe.mui file in.
The last step is to enable the alternative boot screen setting as shown in this tweak....
I want to change my screen saver to my photos. I followed the steps already, seen it in the preview screen, but when I don't do any thing on the computer and the screen saver is supposed to come up, it doesn't. It says I have no photos in the folder i selected.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am setting up my vista machine. I would like to change my DPI (dots per inch) on my screen. So, I go to my desktop's Personalize -> Display Settings -> Advanced Settings. As the Vista help says, I should be able to see a tab called "Scale (DPI)". But I only see tabs "Adapter", "Monitor", "Color Management", etc. My graphic card is NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700. Is it a graphic card related issue? I don't think it's a monitor issue since I was able to set DPI using my old XP machine and the same monitors.

Problem is that the screen resolution cannot be changed and is fixed at 640 x 480. I've tried via the settings in the control panel but I cannot drag the mouse on the slider bar from low to high resolution.
The online help suggests I may have an inadequate video card, Does anyone know how I can check this? What card do I have now and what do I need? Or is there another solution?

View 0 Replies View RelatedProblem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.
But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........
how the broken system acts. When I turn the computer on (it's an HP pavillion DV2000 laptop) it first shows the black screen with the little bar that says MICROSOFT CORPORATION near the bottom of the screen. Then it transitions to the Vista screen that says WELCOME , then the message changes to PREPARING YOUR DESKTOP. These phases take about as long as usual, and the hard drive LED shows a lot of hard drive activity. Finally the Vista logon screen is displayed. I type in my password and the screen changes to my usual desktop color but there is nothing displayed except the mouse pointer.
There is nothing to click, nothing to do. Ctrl+Alt+Del gives the usual menu for LOGOFF, Task Manager, etc. Task Manager shows about 20 processes and the CPU is 96% idle. It shows many services - some of them stopped. Starting in SAFE mode ends up in the same situation. I can't start from a Vista CD because I never got one with this machine - I have only the recovery partition for reloading the original software. So I can't get to recovery console...............
I have Vista Business. The problem is that the screen resolution resets itself after a restart. When it comes up, the resolution is 1400x1050, which makes the font tiny. I reset to 1024x768, apply it, and things are fine until the next day when the computer is restarted.

When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.
