Forgot Vista Password :: How To Change Without Re-installing
Jan 17, 2009
My friend's daughter has asked me to look at her laptop and she has forgotten the password for Windows Vista. Is there any way I can get into it to change the password without re-installing windows?

My technical help reset my username and password for Windows Mail. Today it asked me to confirm them, which I didn't know, and he doesn't remember. How do I reset so I can send out emails? So far I've been able to receive but not send in absence of offering the proper security info.

In most cases their computers start up and you can see the different accounts on the computer. Well for me as soon as i turn on my laptop (Toshiba) a black screen pops up that says "enter current password:" After attempting and failing to remember my password the computer just shuts off, it gives me two tries.

I have the ultimate 64bit vista, on my old computer which was vista home premium I was able to hit one of the Fkeys before windows started and set the date back to when it had factory settings. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. My brother's friend was messing around with it and somehow put a password on it and I think it's stored on the eeprom chip since I can't get it to boot to the bios, safe mode, or anything at all. I have tried different generic passwords such as Admin but nothing's working. I see the Dell spash screen when it boots but then goes to a gray screen that says this computer is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without the correct password. After you try 3xs it shuts down. He says he doesn't know how he did it or what the password is.
I have a friend that has a recovery cd since he has the same laptop, but it won't even boot off of that. I've also tried taking out the CMOS battery for about an hour and it is still wanting the password which makes me believe that the passwords stored on the eeprom chip. Is there anyway to bypass this and fix my computer? I have tried contacting Dell, but get nowhere. They don't understand it will not reformat otherwise I would.

I am using windows live and need to change my password. I know how to do it but when i go to properties and servers and change it, it doesn't work. I still can only log in with the old password. Someone else has access to my emails so just locking my computer is not an option because they can access my emails from their computer. So annoying! Outlook express was so much better than live mail.

Our network is 2003 AD with XP clients and about 120 vista enterprise machines. When you try to change your domain password on a vista box is tells you the username or password are incorrect, doing the same on XP machine is fine. We have another seperate 2003 AD network using the same Vista image, here we have no problem. Everyone group would appear to have change password permissions, like I say all on XP is fine but not Vista on this AD. We have update to SP1 on Vista, no change and Group Policy looks fine.

ComputerA, running Windows XP 32-bit has a shared folder in read-only mode called SFiles with a sign-on of CAShare and a password of ZXJK1122. ComputerB, running Windows Vista 64, in the Network entry of Windows Explorer shows ComputerA. When I expand ComputerA I can see the SFiles shared folder undereath and when I try to click on the folder it asks me for a sign-on and password. I answer with CAShare and ZXJK1122, and it asks me if I want to save this information and I say yes. Subsequently, when I click on the SFiles shared folder it gives me read-only access to the files in the shared folder. This works excellently.
Subsequently, on ComputerA, I decide to change the password for the sign-on of CAShare from ZXJK1122 to NPPP345T. Now on ComputerB when I try to click on the SFiles shared folder in Windows Explorer I get a message of: "Windows can not access \ComputerASFiles with an error code of Ox80070005, Acces is denied."
That's fair enough, since I changed the password for the sign-on. So I want Windows Explorer on ComputerB to ask me for a new password, and I will reply NPPP345T and now have read-only access again which is fine. But it does not do this but repeatedly denies me access each time I click on the shared folder. Surely there must be some way to tell Window Explorer to get a new password from me for this share. How do I do that ? It seems impossible that Vista will keep me from accessing shared folders of another computer on my network simply because it has decided that I can not change the signon/password to the other computer's shares.

is it possible to change the Windows Vista password prompt/startup screen? I know that you can choose the picture in the center of the screen which represents the users account. However, I would like to know if it is possible to change that terrible Windows Vista background.

I'm trying to do a system recovery for a friend. She has a gateway computer. I forgot the model. She is in another state so it's very difficult to do over the phone since basically it's like being blindfolded. Her computer is messed up so it looks like recovering using link one is out of the question. So my question is if I have her use the link 2 which requires the disc, how should I have her do the recovery? When it comes time to select what kind of partition to create which do I select? Format partition? She is the kind of person who is not familiar with computers and gets aggrivated pretty easily so I'm trying to do this as easy as possible.

This past Friday, my 12 yr old daughter decided to create a user account for her (without asking) so my 10 yr old son doesn't mess with her "Sims" game. Now MY user account (administrator) password doesn't work and the password she claims she put on her new user account doesn't either, and I did not have a password recovery cd, So I'm locked out out of C: NTK (308 Gb) partition.
THIS IS WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR!!
I inserted my OEM vista home basic dvd to go thru "recover my computer" and do a system restore but came to find out that my dvd-rom drive is not spinning the disk (took it apart and cleaned the lense with alcohol etc) drive does not make
that buzzing/spinning sound as before when cd/dvd was inserted.
I booted up with D:RECOVERY (10GB) made a bootable USB drive with vista ISO
(a while back I made an ISO image of my OEM vista to make copies in case original got lost or scratched) changed BIOS to boot from "removeable" and I was able to
access "recover my computer" but when I click on system restore, it asks for password, so there goes that idea.
Also tried CMD on the "recover my computer" user interface and typed: (C:> net users) and it only shows "Nano1" which is the admin account for the RECOVERY partition ( stupidly forgot that by using my D:RECOVERY to boot up, it becomes C
so I tried (D: net users) and again it only shows "nano1" also tried (D:Windows system32>net users Administrator active:yes) and it says operation completed sucessfully, after reboot on C:NTK drive there is no admin account available
then tried(D:Windows system32>net users Nano2 /add *) and still nothing.
Downloaded the "offline NT password and registry" followed instructions to make a USB flash drive(formated drive to FAT32) restart computer boot it from usb it starts loading (all the white letters etc) then it just freezes, wont let me do
anything, tried it several times and it always freezes at same spot, so tried the download again, reformat the USB drive and it did the exact same thing, so I decided to make a bootable ISO image of the "offline NT password and registry" had to reformat USB drive back to NTFS and add it the ISO booted from USB and viola! same crap happens ....

Want to install XP into one of the existong partitions. However when the installation process come to the screen to select a partition it shows no partition at all. Instead it shows four things which look like drive placeholders, each saying that there is no drive in it.

I was planning to purchase my new computer with Vista OS. I had in mind to install all my applications I currently have on Windows 2000 onto Vista. This could be Photoshop, Dreamweaver, some image and video editing software, some tools, etc. I heard from some technical sources that Vista will become buggy with the old applications installed. Could anyone confirm that from your own experience and describe the bugs if any, so I could have a better understanding what to expect. Perhaps, a better advice would be to stay with Windows XP for a fewyears?

Installing Vista took about an hour. I'm seriously! Booting into the desktop is painfully slow. Task Manager shows the CPU spiked to 100%, but on closer inspection, no process in the list of "All Users" shows what's taking up the resource. All other desktop tasks are a SLIDE SHOW: opening windows, right clicking items, My Computer, Start menu, etc. I won't even bother commenting on the administrative popups and how long they take to appear and disappear. My first instinct was to search for 'cpu 100% max' and found other posts scattered throughout:
* disable the SSPD service. -- made no difference for me.
* disable the DNS Client service. -- made no difference for me........

I have a brand new genuine XP kit to replace windows vista, so we can run the software/hardware I need at work. Before the installation even begins, while the XP CD is still loading files, I get a bluescreen telling me windows has encountered a problem, and was forced to shut down to protect the system. Basically something in Vista wont let the XP CD even begin installation. I don't know what to do, I've been trying to re-format the hard-drive, IE blow away everything vista related, so it can't fight the XP installation. But some of the sys32 files can't even be removed. I've been doing a lot of research, and I've read some mixed opinions on the subject. Some folks say you can't replace Vista w/ XP, some say it needs to be dual boot, I've also been reading about slip discs and SATA drivers, I'm really not sure how these are supposed to work. But I've made a SLip Disc and copied all the XP v3 files I could. Still, I keep comming back to the problem of the XP CD not even begging installation.
I'll upload a picture of the bluescreen when I bring my camera to work tomorrow. I guess what I really needs is an in-depth explanation of some of these tricks I've been reading about. Right now I'm working with vistabootpro, I just set the Vista OS to legacy, I don't know if that will help at all! Also, for some reason I have a 1TB harddrive, yet I can only partition it into a 100GB and 900GB volume, so the dual boot isn't really feasible anyway. So, I'm open to all suggestions! I really need help, I'm the one who ordered this computer. Not realising that NEITHER my software or hardware is supported by Vista or windows 7. XP is the only OS that will do the job. Now, I'm pretty decent with computers, so don't ve afraid to lay it on thick. WHat it comes down to getting as many suggestions and possiblties to throw at this problem. I'll be back tomorrow with a pic of the error screen prior to XP installation. If I've omitted important information, please don't be afraid to question me, all I know is I've got to solve this problem and get XP running. There is nothing I need to save on this computer. Since I have V3 of XP I think I have the important drivers as well, essentially nothing is too risky to try, as long as I end up with XP. sorry about the long-winded rant. I'm very frustrated and worked up about this, kicking myself for not doing my homework.

I have registered on this website and have not been able to log onto the site for which I've registered. I can access the site but when I attempt to use my username and password Windows Vista does not recognize the username and password I entered. I've reset the password and this program (Windows Vista) does not allow it to work for some reason. I can access the site and log on from any other computer but not my own computer. I have deleted the browsing history in an attempt to remove any stored info on the pc but that doesn't seem to work either.
