View 9 Replies View RelatedI didn't know anything about GIF images until today when I discovered I had to change a JPEG's image background to transparent. I downloaded an image editing program (Coral Paint Shop Pro) and after about two hours of trial and error I only got to changing the background to a solid colour (light red), after which I deleted the program because ALL my image files were redirected there when I clicked on them (instead of Windows Photo Viewer and such).
Now I want to know if and how I can make the background transparent without image editing software. I followed one online suggestion which was to:
- Open MO Excel
- Under the "Insert" tab click "Picture" and upload image
- Under the "Format" tab click "Recolor" and choose "Set Transparent Color", then choose the color you want transparent and click on it...but that only gave me an image I wanted in an Excel spreadsheet which I couldn't save as a GIF in any program I tried.

View 9 Replies View Related1) When changing the background from an image to just a plain color the sidebar does not change, it is still looking as if there is a background image behind it. It will only adapt to the change if you flip it from left to right, and back to left again. Same thing goes for taskbar/start menu bar on the bottom.
2) Sometime I get random re-boots when resuming from standbye or just for the hell of it sometimes.
Whenever I set a new wallpaper the default setting for the background is center.I want it to be set to fit to screen. Is there a registry setting for this so the default goes to fit to screen so don't have to keep changing it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThere is finally an easy way (easier than before) to change your Windows Vista boot screen and use any high resolution photo as your boot screen. Using a great tool written by Dan Smith it is now possible to automatically generate the replacement language MUI file that contains your boot image files. All you need is two photos at 800x600 and 1024x768 saved as 24-bit windows bitmaps. Then follow these steps:
Download Dan Smith's Vista Boot Logo Generator.
Install and then run from the link in the Start Menu.
Hit Browse for image and select both the 800x600 and 1024x768 resolution bitmap files for your boot screen.
Click on File and select Save Boot Screen File as and save your file.
Next, you will need to replace the winload.exe.mui file in c:WindowsSystem32en-us with the one you just created. Before you copy in your new file, make a backup of the original. You will need to take ownership of all files in en-us as well as give your account file permissions to replace the file as well in order to copy the new winload.exe.mui file in.
The last step is to enable the alternative boot screen setting as shown in this tweak....
I want to change my screen saver to my photos. I followed the steps already, seen it in the preview screen, but when I don't do any thing on the computer and the screen saver is supposed to come up, it doesn't. It says I have no photos in the folder i selected.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am setting up my vista machine. I would like to change my DPI (dots per inch) on my screen. So, I go to my desktop's Personalize -> Display Settings -> Advanced Settings. As the Vista help says, I should be able to see a tab called "Scale (DPI)". But I only see tabs "Adapter", "Monitor", "Color Management", etc. My graphic card is NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700. Is it a graphic card related issue? I don't think it's a monitor issue since I was able to set DPI using my old XP machine and the same monitors.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded my PC to Vista from XP and purchased a new monitor, capable of supporting 1440 x 900 resolution. Problem is that the screen resolution cannot be changed and is fixed at 640 x 480. I've tried via the settings in the control panel but I cannot drag the mouse on the slider bar from low to high resolution.
The online help suggests I may have an inadequate video card, Does anyone know how I can check this? What card do I have now and what do I need? Or is there another solution?
Stardock has released an updated version of LogonStudio that allows you to easily change the logon screen in Windows Vista. Eventually everyone will get bored looking at the same logon image every day. LogonStudio will allow you to change it with just a few clicks....
View 0 Replies View Relatedhow the broken system acts. When I turn the computer on (it's an HP pavillion DV2000 laptop) it first shows the black screen with the little bar that says MICROSOFT CORPORATION near the bottom of the screen. Then it transitions to the Vista screen that says WELCOME , then the message changes to PREPARING YOUR DESKTOP. These phases take about as long as usual, and the hard drive LED shows a lot of hard drive activity. Finally the Vista logon screen is displayed. I type in my password and the screen changes to my usual desktop color but there is nothing displayed except the mouse pointer.
There is nothing to click, nothing to do. Ctrl+Alt+Del gives the usual menu for LOGOFF, Task Manager, etc. Task Manager shows about 20 processes and the CPU is 96% idle. It shows many services - some of them stopped. Starting in SAFE mode ends up in the same situation. I can't start from a Vista CD because I never got one with this machine - I have only the recovery partition for reloading the original software. So I can't get to recovery console...............
is it possible to change the Windows Vista password prompt/startup screen? I know that you can choose the picture in the center of the screen which represents the users account. However, I would like to know if it is possible to change that terrible Windows Vista background.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Business. The problem is that the screen resolution resets itself after a restart. When it comes up, the resolution is 1400x1050, which makes the font tiny. I reset to 1024x768, apply it, and things are fine until the next day when the computer is restarted.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI changed my screen resolution in order to better view a video. When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ultimate 64-bit on a new computer, and Windows 2000/pro on a much older (8 years?) computer. I have no difficulty transferring files from one to the other using flash memory units. Both systems are running fine. I was told, by a not always reliable person, that I can simply plug either a regular ethernet cable, or a crossover ethernet cable, into each computer and each will immediately recognize the other, and each will show up on the other's Window Explorer windows. Then, I'm told, I could drag and drop files from one computer to the other with a click of a mouse on either computer.
So, I tried it. Purchased a new crossover ethernet cable, plugged it in, and no visible response. No sparks, no smoke - nothing. Directory trees did not change on either computer's screen. The person who told me this would work doesn't "have time to check into it right now."
1. Is it likely that I caused any damage to either computer? Both continue to work as well as they ever did, so I don't think so.
2. Is it possible to connect the two computers together, via such an ethernet cable, and have them behave as I had been told?
3. If the answer to question 2 is yes, what else must I do besides plug in the cable?
I cannot find an icon to change my single photo viewing to full screen. Is this another Vista "oops"? Do you have a solution?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that Vista has a lot more background services running than XP does and one of my pet peeves is to see a crap load of services running and knowing I don't need all of them but not knowing which one's I don't need.

Has anybody here used the program EndItAll 2 with Vista? I was thinking about installing it to end background tasks & such in order to play my games. Since Vista is such a resource hog, thought this might help with the performance of my game. I don't know which programs or anything that is running in the background to stop or end so thought this program "End It All" might help.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my machine running slower whenever I'm on the Web. Recently I discovered that it was because of one or perhaps 2 programs running in the background even after I close the programs. Last month, after performing a system cleanup with my antivirus and antispyware programs, I noticed that the cleanup process was running unusually slow. At some point, I activated RealPlayer and it wouldn't activate. I double-clicked the icon more than once, and it didn't run.
Out of curiosity, I decided to look at my Task Manager, and in the list of programs running under the 'Processes' tab, I noticed 'realplay.exe'. My RealPlayer program was still running in the background, even though I closed the program, and it was chewing up my resources and slowing down my machine. I stopped the process by hitting the 'End Process' button, and noticed that my machine was back up to normal speed. Once in a blue moon, I get the same problem with Mozilla Firefox, and I have to go into my Task Manager to stop that process to be able to run it again.
So far, RealPlayer and Firefox are the only 2 programs that run in the background even after I close them. How to I fix this problem so that I don't have to keep going into my Task Manager to shut down both programs if they continue to run in the background?
