I have a dynex 32" ws hdtv tv and a dell 1702fp 3:4. when trying to use the tv with 1280/720 res or 1920/1080 the tv still appears in a 3:4 aspect ratio with the black bars on the side. How can I make them go away?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium SP1. I have set my Desktop Background to be one of my favorite pictures. But every half hour or so, without any warning, the Desktop Background resets itself to black, and I have to go back into Control Panel to
reset the background to my picture.
Never could get my LCD screens properly cleaned. All 'special' products for cleaning leave them with stripes. Being a real man, i tried using WD40. First little corner on oldest monitor, ended up cleaning my flatscreen TV with it. It renders the screens as new, i tried putting the screen on background black and it was spotless. completely OT, bathe an old speaker overnite in WD40 makes any old scratchy speaker come back to life
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded a wallpaper changer program called Winvista. As soon as I started to play with the different wallpapers on my desktop, I couldn't help but notice that it had completely cocked up! It seems rather odd, behind the display picture there are a series of grid formad dots, very small and regemented. These move around when I open windows over them or when I select desktop icons. I had a go at changing my resolution, display settings, themes, effects and tried using different background pictures. I've restarted a few times and have selected to use different solid colours, but these dots don't budge.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe thread I'm referring to is called "Black Dots On Desktop Background" and it was posted by charleyvonne. I quote it below. I downloaded Winvista, a wallpaper changer program, just as this member did, and then black dots appeared on the background colour of my desktop. It is very annoying, and I didn't experience the problem until I downloaded Winvista. I have deleted the Winvista program, since it didn't really work for me anyway, and also I've tried system restore- with no change.I am VERY anxious to correct this issue. Can someone give me some advice? I've checked the advice given on the outdated thread- none of it seemed to offer the solution I need. Also, in the outdated thread charleyvonne didn't seem to find a solution either.
I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find a solution.I often work with two windows at once (i.e. firefox and excel) and have been trying to figure out how to dock them next to each other so I can work with them easier. I assume this is a simple fix, I just haven't been able to find it yet.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy problem is this: I am running Windows Vista 64 bit on an ASUS laptop and, after some "experimenting" with binding EXE's on XP and moving them over to Vista, I started receiving the dreaded error message "This program has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect". Now, I'm no noob when it comes to computers. But I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this problem. THe most common solution I have found is to install the Visual C++ Redistributable, thing is. When I run the installation EXE, the same error appears. I have attempted running in safe mode, system restore, and all the usual options, and every thread with this same problem is often ignored, therefore I have not been able to find a solution.

I think the side bar is great - nice feature BUT why does it keep
disappearing on my computer?
It is there on the desktop when I first switch on computer and then when I
open 3-4 windows and then click on the desk top icon and go back to
desktop - it has disappeared!
And yet if I minimize the windows and go back to desktop this way - there it
is!
If the window I am using is not full screen - I can see it - and yet if I
click on desk top to go back to desk top
When I bring up a news group, it runs out of control with the sidebar running all the way to the bottom. And I can't bring it back to the top. The only way I can do this is to unplug my USB plug which controls the mouse. Once I do that I can pull the sidebar back up to the top just perfectly, by using the mouse pad on the laptop. If I plug the usb plug back in (for the mouse) the sidebar crashes to the bottom of the screen. I am using a M1710 Dell Laptop. It works great but this problem of the sidebar running out of control while the usb mouse is in use, is a new one. At the same time the screen saver won't work either.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy mother board is an abit IP35 Pro. And for speakers I have Creative Inspire P7800. Coming out of the sub are all the outputs for center, sub, left & right (front, side and rear). The output cords that came with the speakers don't fully match the input for the onboard sound card. I really don't want to spend $70+ on a sound card. Seems the onboad sound is rather descent. Sound I spend the $20-30 to get the cords that are missing. Seems that cords supplied with the speakers have 4 leads coming out of the sub and then they combine something into 3 leads going into the sound card. Now when I go to mess around with the sound within windows I can't get anything to be produced out of the side speakers.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have only the sticky notes and the weather gadget running on my sidebar. Why does the side bar need to act as a server? I understand the side bar needing internet access to update the weather, but not why it would need to act as a server. I deny the request, which the side bar first asks for in the internet zone and when that is denied it requests to act as server in the trusted zone. I deny that also. The weather gadget still updates without the permission to act as server. The weather forecast is by Foreca but there is no other info or about that I can find on the gadget.

View 9 Replies View RelatedBack in the days I had time to be a Windows MVP, there were a lot of
questions I knew how to answer, but this wasn't one of them.
We have a Vista machine running Vista Ultimate. It is a Toshiba Tecra.
Within a few minutes of booting up, even in safe mode, the mouse pointer
drifts to one side, usually the right, and stays there. If you leave the
machine alone for a while, the issue goes away, but the moment a user starts
doing anything, the mouse becomes unusable in this way. I have tried exiting
all applications, and meticulously exiting every service whose function I
know is not a core Windows function, without avail. Windows Defender has not
found an issue.
i need a way to connect to my home computer from school but the firewall is restricting incoming connections from RDC so i cant get any feedback. I have admin access (dont ask) and have disabled the local firewall but it still blocks the connection so the firewall on the server must be blocking it. Is there software I could install like logmein which would let me do it but doesn't need a webpage to use (logmein.com) and doesn't get stopped by a firewall?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI turn on my computer today, and all of a sudden the minimized tabs for the programs I'm using are on the wrong side of the taskbar. They're on the right side, near the clock, rather than the left side by the start menu. They are also so small that I cannot read them, and if I have more than two they don't show up. I know it's a minor problem, but it's really annoying to me, and I can't figure out how to make them go to the way they were before.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm panicking a bit. I just received my Tuniq Tower 120 today and it is enormous- it's 153mm deep. I have a new Cosmos S case, also enormous, but it has a 200mm cooling fan on the side panel which protrudes a bit into the case. Looking at it it seems touch and go as to whether it will fit in the case and let me put the side panel on. To fit it I have to remove the mobo etc so I'm wondering if anyone knows for certain whether it will fit or not. Also, if it won't fit I'll have to return it so I don't intend even getting it out of the packaging until I can get some solid advice.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is a list of Windows Vista User Interface (UI) Bugs we need resolved before upgrading from Windows XP. I have also added a list of Flaws I think are important (before I use windows Vista personally). These were found within the space of 3 hours when I first used Windows Vista, and had to customise it.
1. CRITICAL BUG: When untick; Start Menu Properties ??? Keep the taskbar on top of other windows, windows do not always go in front of task bar ??? this makes this customisation function useless as there are times when you will be working on a document and the text you are typing in is not visible as the taskbar lies on top.
2. BUG: task bar dragged from RH side to bottom, task bar no longer dragable (workaround: have to lock and unlock taskbar)
3. BUG: Start Menu - clicking 'favourites', then clicking 'recent items' stops showing content. (workaround: need to close and reopen start menu to fix this. This bug assumes favorites menu has been made visible on the start menu......
I have my desktop set up so that the sidebar is on the left side of the screen, simply because I like it better that way, but now whenever I install a new program or download a file from online, which downloads to my desktop, it always appears under the sidebar. I recently tried to click on my " recently changed" link on the left side of my documents screen, and got this messege, " The item " recently changed.search-ms" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this short cut will no longer work properly. Do you wish to delete this short cut?" I dont remember deleteing it, and was wondering if anyones seen this before. I'm not really sure if I need this shortcut, but was just wondering if I messed something up inadvertantly. I just recently added a 1TB HDD, but I dont think that had anything to do with the missing shortcut. I have a tendency to do a "delete sweep" in what I thought were like the old temp files...didnt realize this was a shortcut to actual files. Should I try to get the reently changed short cut working again?
