By Pass Password Login At Start-up?

May 6, 2009

I am attempting to bypass the password login at start-up since I am the only one using the computer (64-bit version of Vista). I go through the change password routine, typing in blanks, or highlighting the new password fields and clicking on same (this worked for my laptop with the 32-bit version of Vista), but I don't seem to be able to effect a change. There must be a formal approach to this solution!

Password Bios Stolen Trouble Crack

Apr 6, 2009

I have a gateway laptop p6860-FX. The problem is that I thought when I put a password on the BIOS that if the laptop was stolen the person would have to go thru alot of trouble to crack it. I just found out at Gateways site that all I have to do to clear the BISO password is 1) tun laptop off 2) set a the number one jumper to set three for a whole two seconds, retun the jumper back to set one and then tun the laptop back on BAM the BIOS pw is gone. CAN i do anything to the laptop to make it worthless if it is stolen? This is absurd in a whole two seconds my 1,300 laptop if stolen can be fully used as if it was never password protected.

Password Prompt Not Working When Laptop Sleep

Apr 16, 2010

I am having a problem that started about 1 week ago with my password protection.I have absolutely no idea what I have done to cause the problem and have tried Googleing, but cannot find a solution. When I lift my lid on my laptop (whether it is plugged in or not)I have settings coordinated in a way so that I am prompted for my password for security reasons (obviously).I have the lid settings, set to 'sleep'(and have also tried 'hibernate' as well). All of a sudden the only time I am prompted to enter my password is on Startup. Checked all settings; tried hibernate (plugged in and unplugged) same as sleep and nothing worked.

Tried changing my password and also turning it off and on and still it is not working! I am the only one who uses my computer, therefore I am the Administrator. The concern is, anyone in the workplace can open my laptop lid and have full access to my laptop, as well as the sticky beaks at home. I am not familiar with drivers etc nor do I know how to figure out what versions of particular programs I am running, but if given steps can easily figure it out.

Blue Screen Of The Laptop

Dec 2, 2009

My laptop, running Windows Vista Basic has had its share of blue screens, until recently when they started becoming excessively frequent.A blue screen would occur every 30 minutes (approx). A few weeks ago (before the blue screens became prominent) I took it infor repairs. These past two weeks the blue screens were becoming more and more numerous until they were garunteed to happen roughly 30 minutes after startup.I ran a chkdsk utility, and it told me there were errors and that it couldn't continue. I attempted to use the "restore" feature to set it to the 11/25/2009 restore point. Vista effectively imploded. When my laptop booted up it gave me a black screen, followed by a window with "This copy of Windows Vista is invalid" (I bought my laptop three years ago; it was registered).Followed by a request for a product key. The problem is, I don't have that product key anymore. I also don't know if I'd be able to download Windows 7 in Vista's current crippled state.

Black Line On Laptop Screen?

Nov 8, 2009

I have a question about my laptop which I was hoping someone can solve for me please? I have a 3" (approx) black line running down the right hand side of my screen and a 1" (approx) black line running across the bottom of my screen and am not sure what this means!? It's not dead pixels as I can see everything as normal (e.g the clock in the right hand corner) but it just looks like someone has comressed the screen into a smaller space and I cannot move the mouse into these black areas.

It is also the same when I go to the BIOS. Not sure if this is a regular problem with Acers (mine's an Aspire 3690) but I cannot find anything on the internet about it? I restored the system to factory settings but was still the same. Sometimes goes back to a full screen (however hasn't done it for a while though) and I have linked it to a monitor and the screen is full and does not have any black lines.

Wireless Network Pass Key Not Correct

Mar 24, 2009

I'm having problems connecting to my network with my Vista laptop. Every time I try to connect it says that it cannot connect so I click the "diagnose problem" button and it tells me that "the wireless network passkey is not correct." However, I know for certain it is. I have reset the network settings twice now trying to get it to work and it doesn't change the problem. The only problems I've had with the network before today is getting booted off the network about an hour or so after I connect (unplug the router for a second and re-connect with no problems.)

I'm thinking the problem might have something to do with downloading a p2p program today and using it. Afterall, everything was fine before hand. I have reset Vistas network options to the default settings. I can still connect to the internet if I directly connect to the router with a wire, or if I turn off my router security and connect to the unsecured network. The other laptop we have (XP) connects to the network fine with the same passkey, and our desktop (XP) has no issues but its directly connected to the router. I've run AVG and Malwarebytes and they both return no problems. I've deleted the network profile, and manually added the network with the same results.

AutoAdminLogon = 1
ForceAutoLogon = 1(Have tried enabling this and disabling it and still no luck)

Also tried making sure "IgnoreShiftOverride" was set to zero and no effect.

Does MS Test Crap Or Pass By The Testers Desk

Invalid Password: Setup And Changed User Password From Set To Clear But Left Other Passwords At Set

Oct 31, 2009

I have Vista Home Premium on an Acer Laptop and all was fine until I decided to change my user password. I had or have (who knows now at this stage) an Administrator,User and HDD password installed on my machine. I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

Not An Easy Transfer

Jan 5, 2009

the instructions for both the cable and Windows Easy Transfer program are practically non-existant. The directions for the cable said to install the software onto the XP machine (easy enough), and then connect the two computers with the cable, again, very simple. Then I was to follow the on screen instructions.

Instructions were as follows: "Windows automatically detects the connection". That's it, no buttons to click, nothing to type in, no load screen, no scan, nothing. So I waited... and waited... and waited. Nothing happened. So I unhooked the cable, disconnected both computers from the internet, disabled any and all firewalls, spyware software, antivirus software, anything that could possibly interfere with the connection. And I tried again... and again... and again. Not Happy, not simple, not easy! Am I doing something wrong? Did I miss a step? Or is Vista really the problem everyone has been proclaiming it?

Increasing Partitions The EASY Way...

May 30, 2009

It seems today is my day for asking goofy questions

My windows 7 dual boot OS is the one I use to play all my games now, which by the way, I did not know this would be the case, hence, why I only made it about 40 GBs, leaving the Vista partition the bigger of the two.

Well, it has come time to install, yet, another game but I only have about 5 GBs left and the game needs 10GBs to install. Sure, I could uninstall the other 2 games I have already installed but, I am only half way done with them.

Anyways, I have plenty of space on my Vista partition and I would like to know if Acronis Disk Director is as easy to use as I have read. Aside from this, do I need to be worry about loosing any info (images, documents, etc, etc) on my Vista OS once I start the process or should I stop worrying so much.
