That wireless keyboard had a neat extra row of keys to bring up the IE 7 browser, Outlook Mail and do a number of things. How can this be done with key combinations from a standard keyboard? Hey, it has to just be a bunch of key combinations that hopefully a standard keyboard can produce.
View 5 RepliesBoth apart is quite straightforwad. Go to Options and select which you desire. But I am NOT able to achieve both. Tried two approaches: First I made a BMP-file with my signature and logo and used the stationary wizard to put that on left bottom of my messages. In the wizard I can also change the font and size. Easily done. But ... when I compose a mail the bitmap doesn't go down with the text which makes this approach quite useless.
Secondly I made a HTM-document with Word and again placed my signature and logo on the bottom. In Mail itself I tell to use font Calibri 12. The HTML-text scrolls nicely down when I compose a mail but it KEEPS typing in dull times New Roman 12. The 2nd approach is closest to what I desire apart from the font. Maybe there is a 3rd approach which I haven't found. Maybe there is a simple solution.
I recently upgraded my graphics card from a Radeon 9600 to 3650 and that is where I struck problems. The standard VGA adaptor isn't working or became corrupt and when I installed the Radeon driver, the system froze after a short while. I have tried deleting adaptor, but that also removes "Display Adaptors" from the Device Manager, so even if I install the 3650 driver, it won't appear as installed. I have tried doing a clean install of Vista but the same thing occurs. On the other hand I have no problem with Windows 7 RC1 where everything works perfectly. What purpose does the VGA serve anyway since I still have a display without it working?

I turned the resolution to the highest and made sure the colours option was at 32bit. This helped and shrunk the screen a bit but now it is still a little bit stretched and the image is not as sharp as it used to be. How can i get it back to its origional format?

In control panel / Appearance and Personalization / Personalization / Theme, there are only two themes listed: Windows vista (aero) and Windows Classic. Is there a way to install the Vista standard theme? It should be present in Vista Ultimate.

sort-of-operating XP network. I have named the network correctly, and
entered the proper workgroup name, and now when I show the Network, the Vista
machine shows itself and the router. The problem is, the router is NOT the
Internet gateway; my old XP laptop is, and neither the old laptop nor the
desktop which have IP addresses below that of the router appear in the
Network display, and I cannot access the Internet because the Vista machine
can't see the gateway, even when I force the proper IP addresses into the
appropriate locations in the Vista machine. I also can't use the printers
which are on the system.
I have vista home premium, and i would like to know if you can get "TweakUAC" to work on a standard account. Looking at the TweakUAC properties, on the sercurity tab > Advanced > permissions, my user name on the standard account, says " not inheirited" Can i get these permissions from the admin account, inheirited to my user account. Or is all this down to group policy, which i dont have....

But I really don't know how to perform simple tasks like create some keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER or install/delete files to My Documents for user running installer. There is Admin rights UAC prompt at the beginning and all actions now are related to this admin account. But i need user account registry path and user documents path. Not admin's. What can I do? How can I access registry and directories for current user?

Taking into account the fact that there are already some Newsgroups for Vista, it becomes a duplicate effort to collate all the comments on a given Vista topic from the Forums and the newsgroups. The Forums also make life miserable by giving the time of posting a message as "so many hours or days or weeks in history". The Newsgroup method of giving the exact date and time when the message was posted makes it easy to search for a message. I also find that the Search function works far more efficiently in Newsgroups as compared with the Forums. The forum search draws a blank most of the times, whereas Newsgroup Search is successful most of the times. So why not add all the forums to the Newsgroups with the standard prefix of microsoft.vista? Besides, Outlook Express is far better organized for viewing discussions as conversations than the Forum organization.

I am setup as an administrator and can log on without any problems, my son's account is setup as standard user account with parental controls turn on. I have deleted his account and created a new one as a standard user, I tried turning off parental controls and I still get the same problem. The only way around this I have found so far is to make his account an administrator. Which is not something that I want to keep this way.

If this is the wrong forum in which to be posting, please direct me to the correct site.To provide a little background: a few years back when I was running XP I spent some considerable time learning the basics of programming using Liberty Basic. After some success with this platform I decided it was time to attempt to expand my knowledge using a more flexible and comprehensive platform. I purchased the referenced product version 2003. I had really just gotten into it when I accepted a number of contract positions that kept me out of the country for a number of years. (Construction supervision constantly on the move.) When I finally retired and went back to the computer for pleasure and learning, I switched to Vista as my O/S. I went back and brushed up on my knowledge using liberty Basic and have decided it is time to give C++ programming another try. I have installed the required platform, but I get a message telling me that there is compatibility issues.
My questions are these: is the 2003 version of this platform compatible with Vista? If not, can I update it or will I have to purchase a newer version? I have checked the links provided with the disks to update at least some of the components (there has to be about a hundred different upgrades and I'm not sure which ones I will require.)

However, in my Documents folder, none of my .doc files are displayed as a thumbnail but instead all show the standard MS Word icon (I do have this one OpenOffice drawing file saved in my Documents which displays as a thumbnail). My questions is simple: What determines whether or not Vista will display a thumbnail for a .doc file?

Even tried the hidden administrator account. The Guest account does allow the standard user option to be selected but nothing happens when this is applied, it remains as an Administrator. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 2 accounts on my Vista Home Premium machine. One is an admin account with password and the other is a standard account without password (UAC off). I have multiple internal hard drives some of which has folders that I want only my admin account to access. I have denied all permissions for the standard account to these folders.
When I login as the standard user and try to open these same folders I get a pop up message saying that I don't have permission to access them and to click “continue” for access. Then I get a second message saying the same thing but there is a clickable link at the bottom to the "security tab" and it's suggesting to use to gain access. Once I click on that I get another "You don't have permission to change security setting" message in the folder properties window under the security tab.
At the bottom of that window it's also suggesting to click on the "Advanced" button for special permissions which will lead to taking the ownership from the admin account under the "Owner" tab by clicking "Edit", thus allowing full access to the contents of those folders. Does that make sense to anyone? I also noticed that the standard account has the ability to change the type to an administrator account from “User Accounts” in Control panel, is that normal?
I'm using 3g phone to connect to the internet. Using standard modem over Bluetooth link as a driver, the speed is not as expected since the maximum speed that can be setup in driver properties is 115.2 kbs while the speed offered by 3g network is 384 kbs. So, I hope Microsoft can resolve this problem.

When i was making it I accidently changed my first administrative account to standard and didnt change it back before i logged off. Now I cant login in to an administrative account or change the dword value back to 1 so i can login because i dont have adminstrative permission. When i try to do this or change the account back to adminstrator it says "To continue type an administrators password and press ok. BUT their is nowhere to type and the ok is shaded so i cant press it! WHAT do i do! Is their another way i can login?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm kinda desperate atm. My laptop has this annoying habit of reverting back to windows standard/classic theme after almost every restart. I said almost as after 2/3 and sometimes even more, my aero theme correctly appeared. After another restart right after that, the problem occurs all over again. The search function in the start menu and windows explorer also 'failed to initialize' when in the said windows standard/classic mode.
I figured that this might have something to do with my user profile as I have the 'User Profile Service service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded' problem once very recently but I've fixed it using the tutorial in this forum. The windows standard/classic theme problem had been on for quite a while back, before the user profile problem. Before all this happened, I've had this 'C:WindowsSystem32configsystemprofileDesktop refers to a location that is unavailable...' problem. I fixed that by copying all my files and folders in my C:Users[Username] folder to the location above and replacing all the files including desktop.ini. It is only after this that I've had the windows standard/classic theme problem.
I couldn't help but wonder if somehow my user profile has got something to do with it? Windows system restore could not fix this problem. By the way, I'm using a modified aero theme at the moment, using TuneUp Utilities 2009 on a Vista Home Premium 32bit Acer 5920G laptop.
is it safe to install Windows Updates logged into the machine as standard user (as opposed to a Computer Administrator)? Up until now I have always logged into the machine as the Computer Admin specifically to install updates - but is this necessary?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Windows Vista Home Premium and the system operates faster than with my previous set-up with XP. After updating some of my drivers from Windows update, I am satified with VISTA so far except that I noticed that Windows identifies my video card as a standard VGA. When I down loaded the Nvidia driver from Toshiba (QG20disp-7882), it seemed to install and operate correctly however Internet Explorer would not start after the installation. I tried several times with the same results. To get the internet working again I had to Restore the sytem to the previous standard VGA set up. This standard VGA set-up limits the ability to see videos with Media Center. Has anyone run into this problem and how can I solve it. Incidentaly the
NVIDIA card has 128 MB dedicated memory so it should be able to run AERO but it is not available.
