Upgraded Standard VGA Adaptor
Aug 16, 2009
I recently upgraded my graphics card from a Radeon 9600 to 3650 and that is where I struck problems. The standard VGA adaptor isn't working or became corrupt and when I installed the Radeon driver, the system froze after a short while. I have tried deleting adaptor, but that also removes "Display Adaptors" from the Device Manager, so even if I install the 3650 driver, it won't appear as installed. I have tried doing a clean install of Vista but the same thing occurs. On the other hand I have no problem with Windows 7 RC1 where everything works perfectly. What purpose does the VGA serve anyway since I still have a display without it working?

Both apart is quite straightforwad. Go to Options and select which you desire. But I am NOT able to achieve both. Tried two approaches: First I made a BMP-file with my signature and logo and used the stationary wizard to put that on left bottom of my messages. In the wizard I can also change the font and size. Easily done. But ... when I compose a mail the bitmap doesn't go down with the text which makes this approach quite useless.
Secondly I made a HTM-document with Word and again placed my signature and logo on the bottom. In Mail itself I tell to use font Calibri 12. The HTML-text scrolls nicely down when I compose a mail but it KEEPS typing in dull times New Roman 12. The 2nd approach is closest to what I desire apart from the font. Maybe there is a 3rd approach which I haven't found. Maybe there is a simple solution.

I just got a Dell Utrasharp 2408WFP. I'm very pleased with the monitor but have read that, as it's an S-PVA panel, input lag will adversely affect games performance.
Also read, maybe on this forum, that a DVI to HDMI adapter will greatly improve things.
I have such an adapter cable.
Can anyone confirm that it would be better than the DVI to DVI I'm currently using?
I am connecting to a BFG 8800GTS OC 512MB which has 2 DVI ports so should I use it in addition or instead of the DVI to DVI?

I just bought a copy of "Windows Vista Home Premium" Yesterday. Went home, and clean Installed it. (Yes, i wiped my data before hand. Backed up all my drivers, etc.) Things were going really well, until I try to connect to the internet and no dice. So I thought, ‘hey ok, I’ll just go throw my back up CD in, update the drivers.’ No dice. So I called around. I was told to plug my internet directly into my PC tower, etc etc. And nothing. They didn't know what to do, as usual, so I thought I would try to reset my modem and reinstall my internet. I have Verizon DSL. When I started the installation, I was told that My computer didn't have an Ethernet card, or whatever, and to try to connect using a USB cable. I know that whatever is up with my computer, can't be extremely bad.
This is ridiculous really. Before I wiped my hard drive, about Six hours before installing vista, everything worked. My internet ran on this computer, and the two laptops that are in the household are also STILL running with internet connection now. I can't find any drivers that are actually compatible with vista. And I’m sick of looking for a stupid Internet card model number on the inside of my tower. I actually had to use a little mirror to find the numbers because the card was that close to the side of the tower. But what I managed to find was "537epg". I try to look that up. Thought I finally hit gold, and found out that this download had been deleted from the manufactures database.

I don't know if this is the right group but a keyword search sent me here. For a long time now I've been getting windows on startup trying to install something that it says is an unidentified device, but on attempt to diagnose and or install I get the following:
This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)A device attached to the system is not functioning. To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Drive and gives it's value as *ISATAP network adaptor. So I uninstall it and after a restart or two I have to go through it all over again. If I leave device manager window open it shows a lot of activity trying to install this device so it is affecting performance.I don't have any new hardware other than a driver for a midi connection, but this issue predates that.

I recently purchased a new system with Vista Home Premium 32bit OS. I have a couple of hard drives (Maxtor) that I would like to recover some files from but when plugged into the new computer, they just don't register. Can't see anything when using IDE or have the hard drives on an adaptor for SATA. The old drives do have XP Pro on them. Is there a clash between OS? How can I read and recover the info I need? I have gone to the Microsoft site to make sure I have all the updates. I have gone to Maxtor to download the up to date installation software. Still nothing. I have checked the BIOS and the SATA ports are initiated (and have talked to the manufacturer HP about the issue and they can't see a problem). I have been able to recognize the old hard drives when I still had the old computer (cleaned it up and gave it to my son with a new hard drive installed). Would like to recover data and start using the old drives as a back up system.

Got a problem with the above wifi device. This is pci-e. Downloaded the 64 bit vista driver from the abit website (tried all three mirrors!) and the driver and piece of software install fine. But then the software won't recognise that the card exists ('could not find abit airpace wifi network adaptor' error) and vista says it cannot find a suitable driver. The device just shows as 'unknown device' in device manager and wants to reinstall driver. Has anyone else had this problem with this card and how did they resolve it, if at all?

reports 2048 the exact same value before the upgrade. I'm aware of
why Vista doesn't report all of the add'l memory but in my case I see no

I bought my pc about a year and half ago. Had an x86 Vista Ultimate edition on it and it all worked fine. 4 GB RAM and a good CPU made it run smooth. I then decided to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB and also upgraded my Windows with it to an x64 Vista Ultimate. Ever since I upgraded, my pc has been crashing like mad. When I play games my pc crashes constantly in a timeframe ranging from 20mins to 2 hours.
I freezes completely and it ends up in me having to force hard reset my pc. I don't know what the problem is atm and in all fairness it's driving me mad. Sometimes I boot my pc, I check mails and whoops, frozen and have to reboot. Is it possible that there's a compatibility problem with the RAM and my x64 Vista?

I purchased a laptop with Vista Home Basic that had only 894 MB RAM.(Two slots with 512 MB sticks). I have lots of speed issues and was told by someone that this was not enough RAM to operate Vista. My laptop maximum it 2 GB so I swapped out the two 512 MB sticks for two 1 GB sticks. Under Control Panel>System, it is still only displaying 894 MB RAM. How do I get this to display the upgraded RAM?

I received the Microsoft Download email and followed the link to read about SP1 for Vista. It recommends installing via the Windows Update site. Every time (and by whatever means) I try to access the Windows Update site the Vista Windows Update tool dives in and tells me that there are no updates available. I am sure I would know if a 65MB file had downloaded and installed but I could be wrong.
Two questions:
1) How can I tell if my system has upgraded itself to SP1 without my involvement?
2) As the first answer is almost certain to be that it cannot, how can I get the onboard Windows Update to let me through to the web site?

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. I had 4GB of memory installed and just upgraded to 8GB. When I started the computer with the new memory sticks, I got this message: "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum." I booted from the Vista DVD and tried the Startup Repair but it says it did not detect any problems so it won't repair anything.

How much ram would my 32 bit pc loose if i upgraded it with an ati x2 gfx card? Currently have 4gb ram & 512mb gfx card, with only 3.2mb ram recognised, ill assume it would be around 1.7gb?? If thats the case, a lot of users will be upgrading their vista to 64 bit. Dont know how many 64 bit users there are now, but looks like this card pretty much demands it.

Have recently purchased the upgrade to 64 bit Vista, however, having installed the disc on boot up I expected some sort of instruction on the transfer to 64 Bit procedure. nothing. When I review the details of my PC in the System menu on the Control Panel it still shows me running with 32 Bit. I have even tried to run the set-up from the upgrade DVD but have been refused and told to run from boot-up.

After I upgraded to Vista my computer has not worked right. It's slower, needs to be restarted every day, I have no sound and other low memory problems. I have noticed that the windows old file is 43 GB which is almost half of my total memory. Is the best thing to fix my computer to go back to XP or just get rid of large files like the windows old so Vista can run properly.

a friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?
