I have a HP dv9000 with built in web and mic the camera works fine when i connect to skype but the computer doesn't even notice the mic is there. i went on control panel and recording devices and it doesn't list any. and there is no button to look for one or anything. what do i do?
View 5 RepliesI've only used my built in web cam using skype, and Skype takes care of my web cam with a little click on an icon. Works great. Can I use my web cam otherwise? Can I sit my three year old in front of the computer and save a video? How do I use it independently?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition on my computer. I don't know why but no built-in game is running (FreeCell, MineSweeper, ChessTitans etc) except InkBall. When I go to Start-Games, a window appears, but it disappears immediately. When I try to launch the game directly from Program Files/Microsoft Games it seems that nothing happens (I get same result also when I choose run as administrator). However, after installation, the games were running (I spent some time playing minesweeper when I was downloading newest graphic driver).

The user called back that none of the Games he was familiar with in XP were available. I went into Control Panel, and went to the XP equivalent of Add/remove programs/ add Windows Components and checked the boxes for the Games. The pc seemed to install something, and when I was finished there were Games under the games folder. However, only Spider Solitaire will play. When I click on any of the others nothing comes up. The user is a member of the Administrators group. I tried right-clicking and chose Run as Administrator, and the games (except for Spider Solitare) still do not play. Again--this is not an upgrade from XP, but a new install.

I have a registered version of Vista Home Premium, and of course, since I had installation problems when I first got it, I can't get help from Microsoft except here now.!
I up graded my CPU and the system freezs constantly, I have ruled outHeat, and PSU, and RAM. I dont get any freezing when in Safe boot mode,So far.
I get this error when it freezs and I have to reset button hard boot.Also All the USB power goes dead so no access to key board or mouse.

I seem to have Windows defender running on my Vista Ultimate SP 2 laptop. This is despite the fact that I cannot see it in the list of installed programs, and my download archive does not have a version that runs in Vista. I used to have Windows Live OneCare installed, but I've uninstalled that and ran the cleanup tool, yet I still see Defender in my taskbar (although it complains that its definitions are out of date).

Recently, the built-in microphone has stopped working and I am unable to make calls with Skype or to use the Sound recorder, all I hear when I playback is very strong background noise. I tried with headphones with the same result. I tried all the solutions proposed by Skype, test call, mic check etc but ..no luck! I went to Control Panel and Sounds, the microphone is shown as "working" and the driver is correctly installed and updated. I played around with the levels but it doesn't seem to change a thing.....I don't know what to do anymore!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Dell Inspiron 1520 and I have issue to built in microphone is not working. I tried to execute the Sigma Tel driver from Dell Driver and Support website but prompted 'Exit Error; Error : Device Object not present, Restart system and run setup. Then, asked Dell support to help and they are not really helpful, after System Restore and drivers upload and finally asked to reformat the laptop........ Anyway, this is what works for me.
1) Download the Sigma Tel driver from Dell Support Drivers page and save it in Desktop
2) Shutdown your computer
3) Start your computer and press F8 at the Dell Logo page
4) Select Safe Mode (not others)
5) Proceed to work on Safe Mode
6) Right-click the Sound icon and activate the Sound icon
7) Select Recording device.
8) If still not working, then execute the Sigma Tel driver that saved in desktop then, shutdown the computer and start as normal, you may see the system able to detect the built in Microphone then.
Is my first post and i have a problem with avi file icon. I am from Cyprus and my english its not very good. Some of my avi files show a picture and some others show a black icon. I did not have this problem before. Before all my avi files show a picture. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (new version). I try Vista Codec but i can solve it. I bought my pc about a year and half ago. Had an x86 Vista Ultimate edition on it and it all worked fine. 4 GB RAM and a good CPU made it run smooth. I then decided to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB and also upgraded my Windows with it to an x64 Vista Ultimate. Ever since I upgraded, my pc has been crashing like mad. When I play games my pc crashes constantly in a timeframe ranging from 20mins to 2 hours.
I freezes completely and it ends up in me having to force hard reset my pc. I don't know what the problem is atm and in all fairness it's driving me mad. Sometimes I boot my pc, I check mails and whoops, frozen and have to reboot. Is it possible that there's a compatibility problem with the RAM and my x64 Vista?
I had 1 gb of ram in my computer and I just upgraded to 2 gb. I tried to start it up, and nothing happened. All the lights and fan came on, but nothing happened.

I have lots of speed issues and was told by someone that this was not enough RAM to operate Vista. My laptop maximum it 2 GB so I swapped out the two 512 MB sticks for two 1 GB sticks. Under Control Panel>System, it is still only displaying 894 MB RAM. How do I get this to display the upgraded RAM?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI received the Microsoft Download email and followed the link to read about SP1 for Vista. It recommends installing via the Windows Update site. Every time (and by whatever means) I try to access the Windows Update site the Vista Windows Update tool dives in and tells me that there are no updates available. I am sure I would know if a 65MB file had downloaded and installed but I could be wrong.
Two questions:
1) How can I tell if my system has upgraded itself to SP1 without my involvement?
2) As the first answer is almost certain to be that it cannot, how can I get the onboard Windows Update to let me through to the web site?
I building an Intel Q6600 PC from scratch running x64 Home Premium. Upon getting it up and running to the point of the OS install I would like to ask about some basics and hear anything else offered.
- I'll be using 8GB RAM (4x2GB Cards) Corsair DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM. Should I start with 4GB and add the rest later. I hear I may need a MS patch?
- I want a clean optimum install. I remember using the NTFS option in XPSP2. Any options like this I need to know about in Vx64?
- Administrator options. I will be the only user of this machine. I want everything I do to be ran as administrator. I'll add a guest account if it's ever needed. What say you?
- I hear some DVD optical drives (Lite-On LH-20A1L-06 SATA) have issues in Vista. Will I need the MS kb929777 patch?
- Photoshop CS3 is supposed to run really well in x64 but is a 32bit program. This will most likely be the first thing I install. I hear some have to command prompt to SysWOW64 and do a regsvr32 jscript.dll and a regsvr32 vbscript.dll?
Im new to all of this so please bear with me. I'm currently running windows vista 32bit and am having problems with my pc. I noticed my pc was running slow the other day and when I looked at the updates tab it states the last time it updated was in March. I tried to update it, it gives me an error that when I look it up states its firewall related.
(error 80072EFD) I uninstalled all of my anti virus programs and disabled firewalls nada. I've tried to have the pcsafety people do a remote assist 3 times and they cant find the problem. We've scanned the pc for spyware and malware 3 different times (Norman antivirus (the tech did this) spy sweeper and also the tool built into windows. They've
tried resetting the batch etc with no luck. I'm to the point of just reformatting my pc but that brings me to the current dilemma.
I custom built my pc a year ago, it does -not- have a recovery partition and I do not have a back up disk for my os. Is there a way to create a partition of vista's original settings, that I can reboot from?
In short, my computer randomly restarts. This is obviously a problem but I haven't the slightest clue where to start. I built the computer a few days ago, my first time mind you, so I am willing to swallow my ego and realize this could be my fault.

Has MS ever solved this? Or built a font manager into the OS. I'm a font crackhead! I'll admit I have a serious problem with them! Shame that you can embed fonts in web pages yet. You can but nothing cross browser. I'm not tryin to install my CD of 5000 fonts .. but it'd be nice to keep a good number on hand.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my graphics card from a Radeon 9600 to 3650 and that is where I struck problems. The standard VGA adaptor isn't working or became corrupt and when I installed the Radeon driver, the system froze after a short while. I have tried deleting adaptor, but that also removes "Display Adaptors" from the Device Manager, so even if I install the 3650 driver, it won't appear as installed. I have tried doing a clean install of Vista but the same thing occurs. On the other hand I have no problem with Windows 7 RC1 where everything works perfectly. What purpose does the VGA serve anyway since I still have a display without it working?

When I started the computer with the new memory sticks, I got this message: "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum." I booted from the Vista DVD and tried the Startup Repair but it says it did not detect any problems so it won't repair anything.

Currently have 4gb ram & 512mb gfx card, with only 3.2mb ram recognised, ill assume it would be around 1.7gb?? If thats the case, a lot of users will be upgrading their vista to 64 bit. Dont know how many 64 bit users there are now, but looks like this card pretty much demands it.

When I review the details of my PC in the System menu on the Control Panel it still shows me running with 32 Bit. I have even tried to run the set-up from the upgrade DVD but have been refused and told to run from boot-up.
