Upgraded To Vista Ultimate Xp's Printer

Mar 23, 2008

Had two PC's one has just been upgraded to Vista Ultimate, the other remains XP Pro. When I browse the network on either system, they seem themselves but not the other. I can ping in either direction OK by IP only (not computer name) On the Vista system if I select 'Show Full Map' in the network center I can see the other PC I can print to the XP's printer from the Vista system (had to map it by IP. I have tried all the hints and tips I can find and for the life of me am stumped. I have set up probably 20-30 similar small networks for friends (though this is a first with Vista) and never had this problem.

Memory With Ultimate X64 SP1: 10% Memory But Free RAM Sits At 0

Jul 3, 2008

I have a problem with Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, I always seem to lose all my free RAM within an hour regardless of system activity, even while idling. I have noticed an svchost.eve process runs each time I reboot which seems to bloat constantly although when I close it down it only frees up about 800MB, what's happening to the rest of my 8GB??? When I launch Task Manager it says I'm only using 10% Memory but free RAM sits at 0?!?!

After I upgraded to Vista my computer has not worked right. It's slower, needs to be restarted every day, I have no sound and other low memory problems. I have noticed that the windows old file is 43 GB which is almost half of my total memory. Is the best thing to fix my computer to go back to XP or just get rid of large files like the windows old so Vista can run properly.

Upgraded Vista 32bit Hung Up

Jan 13, 2009

I'm currently running my upgraded rig on Vista Ultimate 32 bit and would like to have 64 bit installed because I have 6 gigs of ram that I would like to be able to use. My problem is that when I boot from my DVD drive, it says it loads the windows files, but then when its like setting up the install or something (The green bar is scrolling across the screen), it gets hung up then, after a minute or two, becomes a BSOD. 32 bit did something similar, but never gave me blue screen just kept stopping and starting again. I'm stumped.

Exploring, Memory DiagnosticsIf Vista Detects A Memory

Feb 23, 2007

Memory DiagnosticsIf Vista detects a memory problem in your system such as a faulty RAM module, it will display a notification asking if you want Vista to try to diagnose the problem. Then again you may also recieve the sudden BSOD with the error MEMORY MANAGMENT at the top. You can manually run this tool anytime just typememory in the search box inside the start menu. This tool offers you two options: restarting immediately and checking for problems, or running next time you reboot your machine (the memory diagnostic tool must run at boot time).

Network DiagnosticsWindows Vista also allows you to check the connectivity of your network connection using the Network Diagnostics Framework: An infrastructure and a set of built-in and extensible components that attempts to automatically diagnose and correct network connectivity problems. The usual way to run this check is to open Network Center and click the Diagnose Internet Connection link on the left Vista will either identify ............

Ultimate X64 SP1 Memory

Oct 28, 2008

I recently upgraded my laptop to Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. I have 4GB of memory and the System screen reports that (it did not prior to SP1). However, when I look a the physical memory report in Task Manager it still only says 3072 which is 3GB. I upgraded to the 64bit OS so I could use all of my memory but if it isn't going to use it, then I am going to Ghost back to my 32bit OS.

Ultimate 64bit, Not Seeing All Memory?

Mar 30, 2009

I recently built a new computer. I put vista ultimate 64bit on it for the os. Everything seems to be ok so far except for the memory issue. I installed 12 gigs of ram on the mother board and vista only show if have this.

Installed Physical memory 12.0 gb
Total Physical memory 3.99 gb
Available Physical memory 10.3 b
Total Virtual memory 23.9gb
Available virtual memory 22.3gb
Page file space 12.3 gb

This seems to me that all the memory is not seen. The motherboard shows all 12 gb in bios. What can I do to get vista to see and use all the ram, I do video editing I thought I doing a good thing with more ram and vista 64bit.

I thought X64 OS shows all memory, and I know my mobo can handle up to 8GB @800MHz. Also, I have installed every single Windows update, and after the upgrade to 8GB, I can see a definite increase in performance.

Vista 64 Installed Physical Memory Vs Total Physical Memory

Mar 26, 2009

I'm running Vista 64 Home (SP1) Premium on a homebuilt machine w/8GB (4 X 2GB modules). Windows is reporting 8 GB of Installed Physical Memory but is reporting only 4 GB of Total Physical Memory. I first noticed this when, after installing a game, the game system specs said 3092 MB of RAM.

I have checked the BIOS and it recognizes 8 GB. Memory Remapping is Enabled. Under Memory Remapping is "PCI MMIO Allocation: 4GB to 3328 MB" (?). MSConfig Boot Options shows Max Memory is not checked and no value in the box below. I tried enabling it and using 8192 as the value, but it made no difference. DxDiag shows 8 GB installed RAM. how I can get windows to make available all 8 GB of RAM? (Motherboard is ASUS Maximus II Extreme w/Intel Q9550 processor running at Q9650 clock speed, memory running at 1127 MHz

Is The Vista Ultimate User Account Passwords Located In A Different Place As Compared To Other Versions Of Vista

May 27, 2010

A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions

1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?

2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?

VISTA Out Of Memory

Mar 25, 2009

After about 10 minutes of using my laptop with vista, Vista runs out of memory, ie I cannot copy/move anything, some windows appear blank (e.g. when I go to "my computer" -- properties). The error message it shows when I even try to copy one 6Mb-file is "out of memory" - "there is not enough memory to complete this operation". I have done the following things:

- I check the memory via task manager, and there is more than enough RAM available
- my pagefile setting is on "automatic"
- I tried to install the MS hotfix, but it says "update does not apply" (I guess it is included in SP1, which I already have.)

I do NOT have Kaspersky installed, nor am I trying to copy/move up to 16000 files. It simply happens after about 10 minutes of simple operations, such as word processing and playing short video clips, and vista does not allow me to do ANY copying/moving.

Upgrade Vista Home Basic To Vista Ultimate

Jun 30, 2008

CANNOT SIMPLY UPGRADE WITHIN VISTA??? FIRST TIME ISSUE EVER POSTED! I have a question that I cannot make sense of. I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 installed on my computer. I have a copy of a legit retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade SP1 DVD-ROM. I want to upgrade my current Vista Home Basic to Vista Ultimate. Sounds simple enough. I have read everywhere on the web and it can upgrade easily as long as you upgrade within Windows Vista and not a reboot installation. Okay, but when I get to a point in the Vista grade process, I CANNOT! During the installation process, when I get to the screen that states, "Which type of installation do you want?" AFTER INPUTTING THE VISTA ULTIMATE KEY CODE ON A PREVIOUS SCREEN, the option should be "Upgrade" ONLY and NOT "Custom (Advanced)" since the key code is set for upgrade option only. I GET THE TOTAL OPPOSITE!!! I only get the option "Custom (Advanced)" and the "Upgrade" option is grayed out. WHAT??? NO "Upgrade" option??? I SHOULD BE GETTING THE "Upgrade" OPTION!!! This does not make any sense!!! It states at the reason at the bottom of this screen, "Upgrade has been disabled. - The upgrade option cannot be started, to upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of Windows that is more recent than the version you are currently running." This does not make any sense, does it??? I should be able to only upgrade since I only have an upgrade disc. I am upgrading from a lower edition of Vista to a higher edition of Vista, therefore I should ALSO have this feature to upgrade enabled too when it knows my CD key is a higher ("upgrade") edition. I have spent several hours searching and read around the web and cannot find my same or similar case scenario. A first time! People who have upgraded between different editions of Vista with either the Windows Anytime Upgrade retail package or (mine) the Windows Vista Ultimate Retail Upgrade box (includes the Windows Anytime Upgrade anyways on it) say it is a breeze! What is going on with me??? I should not be having any problems what-so-ever!

Vista 64bit Hungry For Memory

Mar 23, 2008

I've just installed another 2 Gig of RAM because Vista ultimate 64bit is quite hungry for memory. In the windows experience index I had a score of 5.6 out of 5.9, with the 2 gig of memory bringing it down to 5.6, the rest of the hardware scoring top at 5.9 I thought that by installing 4 gig in total my memory score would go up to 5.9 too, but can you believe it, it's dropped to 5.5!(BTW - exactly the same brand as the previous 2 sticks that were in there before Corsair XMS2 DDR2 TwinX matched PC6400)

Vista Ultimate 64 Bit

Oct 24, 2008

I have been researching and learning as much as I can about 64 bit systems and my conclusion is to to simply ask the experts.

My question is, should I use Vista Ultimate 64 or 32 bit? I'm upgrading from Windows XP Home Edition. This will be a big investment for me. My current system specs are...

Q6600

4 GB DRR2 800

8800GT

SoundBlaster-XiFi

I would like to take advantage of better computing, simply put, but I'm having trouble seperating truth from myth, ex: better graphics and a large performance increase. I do a lot of gaming and web browsing, and I play a lot of the newer generation games (Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, Crysis, etc.).
