Deletes Folders On Reboot
May 29, 2009Any folder starting with the letter a or a number will be deleted upon reboot. It also empties the recycle bin on reboot but I have resigned myself to live with this idiosyncrasy.

View 7 Repliesevery time my computer reboots, a weird folder is created on the c drive. this folder has a random alpha-numeric name and contains a bunch of windows update stuff. when i reboot, another folder is created with the exact same contents but with a different folder name...now i have ~15 of these weird folders. i think it's related to updates because the folders contains files such as:
WUClient-SelfUpdate-ActiveX.cab
WUClient-SelfUpdate-Aux-TopLevel.cab
wusetup.exe
i'm having trouble deleting the folders due to permissions and "folder is being used"...but i'm not concerned about deleting them right now. what i'm really concerned with is stopping their creation! another odd thing is that if i connect an external usb drive, the new folders will be created on the external drive instead of the c drive. i'm runnning vista ultimate x64 with SP2 on an HP machine with RAID 1 mirroring my hard drive.
The Recycle Bin dont deletes the items what is in the recycle bin i was 0.maked theseinstructions(URL)but nope. On the desktop when i open the recycle bin the items are stillin the recycle bin ,but when opens Computer>Local Disk (C$RECYCLE.BIN)Recycle Bin shows folder is empty. What to do for emptying full the recycle bin what is on the desktop?
Vista Basic x32 sp2. I can remember back when, I would install a windows os. I would use fdisk and wipe out the partiion, format the drive and install the os. If I remember correctly, the format, even on a 30gb, hd would take 1/2 an hour or more. Now I have a 160gb hd and recently have re-installed vista using the format option. The format took about 1 minute. Is this normal? Using the format option does vista actually format the drive or simply deletes everything on the partition?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI ran the critical update (Vista) and it wiped out the desktop, leaving a blank slate. Each time I restart there is a lenghty message in Chinese with "ok" as the only option. I ran system restore to get back to the time just before this update, which restored my desktop. I am convinced that this update is buggy and should not be installed without a deep backup in place. It works fine with XP but not with Vista in my set of machines. How can this be reported to Microsoft? Or am I doing something wrong? The system is completely legal and registered.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a computer with Windows Vista Home Premium x64 preinstalled. This computer comes with a 640GB SATA II hard drive. Recently, I have decided I do not want to use Windows Vista for at least (estimating here...) another year, and I'd rather use Windows XP. I have another hard drive that is IDE. On this IDE hard drive, I would like to install Windows XP. I would also like to make Windows XP the
default OS on this computer until I decide to make the eventual switch to Vista.
1.) 'Dual-booting XP deletes Vista restore points | PC Tips'. - Here, it is reported that dual-booting Vista/XP will cause Vista's restore points to be lost, which I do not want to occur. With the OS being installed on 2 separate drives (one SATA, one IDE) in my case, is there a chance this happens?
2.) How do I set up which OS my computer boots from? Do I use the BIOS menu and declare the IDE drive as the primary drive to boot from, or is there a way I can actually set up a boot loader that will let me choose which OS to use, without using BIOS directly?
Windows mail deletes my mail after reading and closing the program. I have Kaspersky internet security with the spam blocker disabled. This started yesterday two days prior to this I installed SP1
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the following issue and hope that somebody can give me a hint about what might be going on! My system has two raid 1 arrays - one is running on XP Professional SP3 the other one is running on Vista x64 Ultimate SP1. When I start my virtual machines (either from the Virtual PC console or when double-clicking the *.vmc files) than everything is working fine on XP and the virtual machines are booting and running as expected. However, on Vista the following is happening (and I hope somebody has an idea):
1. Starting the Virtual machines from the console leads to an immediate reboot of my host machine (I can't even see any boot screen of the virtual machine - it is like clicking start in the VPC console -- > reboot of host).
Now I tried the following:.........
Awhile back I was given instructions on how to change the folder standard green folders to new pink folders. Well, my computer crashed out and I had to get a new hard drive. I tried to follow the instructions from the previously solved thread, but I can not find the "desktop.ini". When I go to the users folder inside my choices are Administrator and Public and I can not find the "desktop.ini" file. I have windows vista.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am just configuring Windows Mail in Vista. In Outlook (on XP), I had multiple email accounts linked to different folder structures. Each account had a different set of folders. In Windows Mail, it seems everything is being downloaded into one Inbox. Can I re-create the separate folders for each email account in WinMail?
Also, my gmail accounts folder structure was synchronized with the folder structure on the web using IMAP. Can I do that in WinMail, too? If so, how (or point me to directions)?
I have had this issue for many months, now. I loaded Vista x64 Home Premium to run in a dual-boot configuration with my XP Pro. I do critical work so I didn't trust going to Vista exclusively. I mainly wanted it to see if I could utilize all my RAM and speed up Photoshop processing. I have had it working three or four times, (except for tablet functionality) then when I must re-boot because of SP1 and other security updates or in one case, I installed Office 2007, it does nothing on restart; black screens and just sits there, totally unresponsive.
No blinking of the LED which shows drive activity. When re-booting, F8 isn't working (nothing happens). Regarding the previous instances, I gave up trying to get it to respond and went back to booting into XP, which always works fine. Then after a period (usually a month or more) I will try booting into Vista, on restart, and viola, it works again! WTF is going on?
Occasionally when I've been away from the computer for a short time and it goes into sleep mode (it`s set for 15 minutes), I can't bring up the display simply by hitting a key. I have to shut it down and restart. The boot button on the console will still be lit and I have to shut it down before I reboot. This probably happens about 30% of the time. The other 70% it comes back up with a key touch.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI used to have Windows XP on this PC and I have recently replaced it with a clean install of Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Since then my computer will no longer reboot. When I click start > restart it will shut down like it should, then it will go to the POST screen and from there it goes black and nothing happens (where it would normally load windows). I have taken out my C: drive and put it in another PC and it worked perfectly. I have a C and D drive which are both 2 separate hard disks and always worked fine in XP. How can I fix this? They are both IDE. I have to now power off the PC and power it on again to restart.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSome times after I reboot vista (ultimate 64bit), random folders in C drive are deleted.
I already lost 4 games and 2 apps (~40 GB).
I think it's happening only after restart and only on C drive, but it's really hard to watch all (4) drives.
Every now and then I have a problem where Vista displays the message "USB device not recognized" when I plug my iPhone on the USB port. It happens with all the USB ports on the machine and rebooting the computer will fix the problem.
Does anyone has a suggestion as to what may cause the problem and how to fix it?
It there a service that I could try to restart instead of restarting the whole computer?
My computer freezes and reboots when I surf the web. I use Firefox, Internet Explorer just doesn't cut it for me. My Windows is fully up to date. It also happens when I use Azureus.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had some trouble with my computer and I'm not sure if it's ram problems or graphics or anything. I've had the following problems: Vertical very thin pixel lines that show up random places nvlddmkm has stopped responding and recovered. And within the last 2 days it's done it 3 times, I'm having my screen go blank with random colors. Green, White, and then the last is black that goes away and comes back like the monitor is trying to reset itself. Always black tho. I have to restart in order to get it to reboot. So I'm thinking I have bad ram, my monitor is a Westinghouse 17" Flat panel I got in 2005. My graphics card (8800GT) is about 11 months old.

In the Device manager section, the usb's have the yellow exclemation marks. The only way i can get them to work is to disable all and then enable them. It's quite annoying to have to disable and enable the 6 usb ports everytime i reboot. Any solution to this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues trying to upgrade from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. Upgrade advisor says my system can handle Vista just fine. I pop-in the DVD and it says it might have some issues with the printer and some cellphones I used to connect to the PC but other than that all is well. I continue with installation, it copies files and whatnot and then it reboots (which it is supposed to do). However, the installation hangs on the Windows Vista loading bar. It just stays there forever. No error message, nothing.
I've tried it twice now and both times the exact same thing happened. The first time as an upgrade the second time as a clean install on my second hard drive. I googled my problem but found no real help. Do any of you have any clue how I can get it to install?
For some reason, when i start using explorer the system starts to take a long time to load anything and gets stuck on the loading cursor.. pretty soon it requires me to hard-reboot the computer. This also occurs when i am trying to install software.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOn some websites and forums there is a remember me function where the site remembers if you want to stay logged in without you having that site open all the time or myspace.com where the remember me function can be used so you dont have to put your email address in everytime you log on. My query is on vista home premium 32bit which im using after each reboot it forgets any information you had told the pc, so on each site including here i have to type in my user name or email address every time.Is this a security issue with vista or just an error.I obviously dont want it to remember my passwords but id like not to have to type in my email address for every login screen. Finally if I leave the pc on all day I can leave and visit any site and it remembers but once a reboot is done its back to square one.
