View 9 RepliesI've ran BitDefender Total Security 2009 and got off a few trojans, ran Spybot and got a few as well. I've also ran the cmd prompt command sfc/scannow (with no issues), but I am still getting a blue screen after I shutdown. After it automatically reboots, I get a Windows prompt saying it has recovered from an unexpected shutdown, here is the report: I've zipped and attached (the attachment system doesn't seem to work, so I uploaded it to MediaFire) all of the files that it says could help describe the problem. Here is the download link: 'systemfiles.zip'
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that the machine freezes randomly, anywhere from 10 minutes to hours after reboot. It just locks up, mouse won't move, task manager won't open, nothing. I have to reboot. There are no events in the event viewer that correspond to this freeze-up. Original build used all the drivers off the mobo disk, and 2 HD's in RAID1. I called MS support and the first man took over my machine and did all sorts of things to "improve performance"("Your PC will work PERFECTLY from now on!"). After that it would do nothing but BSOD, even while trying to get into safe mode. I reinstalled onto a single drive. I got every up to date driver I could, Nvidia graphics, Intel ICH10 chipset, JMicron controller, Realtek HD Audio, Realtek NIC, asus monitors. No difference. I pulled out the RAM and did it with 1 stick--no difference. I set the BIOS to 9-9-9-24 and 2T, 1.5V as spec'd. It passes memtest inifinitely. I tried MS Support a second time. He ran some DOS deal (scf? skf? scannow) which found nothing. The Vista Diagnostics supposedly found and fixed issues, but he did not share those issues with me. It froze 40 minutes later. They are calling back tomorrow to see if it worked.

Vista Home Premium is my operating system. This started to happen when I installed an external Hard Drive as a back up Disk onto my computer in order to have Windows do a auto back up every week. I do not get any error messages during reboot just freezes up count down. If I disconnect my external Hard Drive everything works just fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedPeriodically, my Vista SP1 PC freezes up. The mouse vanishes unless you move to to the bottom of the screen where the taskbar is -- and you'll see a spinning blue circle - but no keys or clicks work. Here's the question. When this happens, does manually restarting by holding down the power button damage the computer or performance or reliability of Vista?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had voltage issues causing my computer to freeze or reboot during games and dvds. Fixed that and the computer was fine after memtest showing no problems. That was late Dec.
A few days ago, the computer would go to a blue screen saying it's dumping physical memory and then automatically reboots. Thinking my harddisk might be collapsing on me (I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gb HD with the SD15 firmware, the infamous crash friendly HD), I flash the HD with the SD1A firmware from seagate, then it was fine. 2days later, Catalyst started to cause problems by not responding, so I formated the drive and reinstalled vista ultimate, along with Catalyst, drivers from Mobo manufacturer ASUS, plus a couple of other softwares. That was yesterday, and now I'm getting the same blue screen back, or the computer just freezes.
How do i get my games to auto play and auto run in win Vista? Any other installation disk will auto run, but not games? I even installed 4 virtual drives from Farstone Pro. It has an auto play and auto run feature in it. But it doesn't work either?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the following issue and hope that somebody can give me a hint about what might be going on! My system has two raid 1 arrays - one is running on XP Professional SP3 the other one is running on Vista x64 Ultimate SP1. When I start my virtual machines (either from the Virtual PC console or when double-clicking the *.vmc files) than everything is working fine on XP and the virtual machines are booting and running as expected. However, on Vista the following is happening (and I hope somebody has an idea):
1. Starting the Virtual machines from the console leads to an immediate reboot of my host machine (I can't even see any boot screen of the virtual machine - it is like clicking start in the VPC console -- > reboot of host).
Now I tried the following:.........

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have three PCs in my house running Vista. Before installing SP1, allof them would routinely go to sleep automatically, as per the powermanagement settings. Since installing SP1, they continue running without ever going into sleep mode. I can still enter sleep mode manually, which works fine, it's just the automatic sleep that won't work.Only software in common across all three machines (other than Vista)is Office 2007 and Windows Live OneCare. Both were installed prior to installing SP1.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen ever I try to mount COD4 onto virtual drive in Vistax64 using various emulation apps (they all do the same thing) it just mounts it to the drive, doesn't bring up the auto run and when I try to run the setup.exe manually it just says that the program you are trying to install is not compatible with this version of windows. Yet I thought COD4 was compatible with x64.

I have tried turning off the retrieve when started and that does not

I 've changed the avi files to open with wmp and i have also set associate file type to wmp in default programes. Still wmp will not open avi's when i double click on them nothing happens not even an error code appears? i have to drag and drop the avi files to get wmp to play them.
This may seem like a minor inconvenience but it's still an inconvenience, this only applies to avi files for some reason?
Before SP1 was installed, whenever I created a new folder, and then clicked on the folder icon while I was changing the name from "New Folder" to whatever (or pressed <ENTER>), I would immediately go into that folder, so that I would not have to double-click it to go in. Since I installed SP1, this is not happening. Is there any way of re-enabling this feature?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI realize this group is for Windows Vista, but since Windows 7 is mostly Windows Vista, I'm hoping solutions that work for Vista will work for Windows 7. I have a Windows 7 RC box attached to my active directory (2003) and am trying to set it up to automatically log onto the network. Has anyone here been able to do this with Vista?
I have tried everything from modifying the user accounts to not need to enter a password (unable to do that -- I don't have that option) to editing the registry to installing Autologon from Sysinternals and a couple things I can't think of right now. If anyone has successfully managed this, please let me know, especially if you've done it on a Windows 7 box. :-)
Had set up an out of office message in Windows Mail by means of Message Rules. Currently, there are no Rules anymore visible to remove, though the auto reply messages are continuing. Would be grateful for avise how to disable auto reply.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using Smart Defrag 1.20. The thing I would like to know is
1. Is it worth having your hard drive auto defragged?, or,
2. To manually defrag the hard drive, once a week?
As I think that running the auto defrag is using a bit to much in resources?
I recently upgraded my Norton's Internet Security to Norton 360 - which contains a disk optimizer (defrag). Prior to upgrading Norton my Vista Defrag tool worked fine no problem and always on schedule. After the upgrade to Norton, I was setting up the program and the defrag tool in Norton said "pending" which I left alone, because I was comfortable using the native defrag utility. However, now the vista defrag does not work. I went into the the vista tool to look at the schedule and it gave the last run date ( I had it set to weekly on Wed at 1am).
The next scheduled defrag said "Never" despite the box checked "run automatically". I then unchecked the box and rechecked it, and then it gave the next scheduled date which I changed to that evening. I left it alone until the next morning and it not only did not defag per the schedule but the Vista tool said next scheduled defrag "never" and Norton was back to Pending again. I have to assume this has something to do with Norton. I am told that Norton's defrag tool is tied to Vista's tool.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I use my Windows Mail (Vista) there are a few of my contacts that will 'auto complete' but not all of them. I have the setting set properly, and some work. I have about five that begin with "J" and only one of them will auto complete. On the others I have to type the entire address.
I was wondering if there is anyway to set Vista up or download load any software that would allow me to set the desktop background to change automatically?

Windows Mail for some reason is only doing this on a handful of my contacts and the rest I must click 'Recipients' and then select them from the huge list. Any one know of a fix for the auto-complete issue?
