I've been trying to figure out how to keep Windows Mail from automatically opening the next email in my mailbox. For instance, I open an email from my mailbox... after reading it I then delete it... the next message in my mailbox then automatically opens up.

I 've changed the avi files to open with wmp and i have also set associate file type to wmp in default programes. Still wmp will not open avi's when i double click on them nothing happens not even an error code appears? i have to drag and drop the avi files to get wmp to play them.
This may seem like a minor inconvenience but it's still an inconvenience, this only applies to avi files for some reason?
I am set to auto retrieve email every 10 minutes and to retrieve email
each time I start mail. It retrieves each time I start mail but never
auto retrieves email regardless of the time frequency that I have set.
I have tried turning off the retrieve when started and that does not
make the auto detect work either. This option worked when I initially
started mail but stopped working shortly there after.
I am using Windows mail and i would like to put myself in CC or BCC for the every email sent. please do kindly advise how is that possible. putting yourself in every email is very difficult so how is it possible that when i compose any email or reply to any email the CC or BCC field automatically keeps my email address in it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn previous versions of Windows with OE when I would begin to type the recipients address in the box it would auto-complete (or show choices if there were multiple matches at that point). Windows Mail for some reason is only doing this on a handful of my contacts and the rest I must click 'Recipients' and then select them from the huge list. Any one know of a fix for the auto-complete issue?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI exported my email addresses from my old laptop using outlook express as a csv file then imported them to windows mail via import. i ticked all the boxes and i have made sure the box to automatically complete email addresses when composing is ticked is actually ticked and applied. Yet i still cant get email addresses to finish automatically.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have vista home premium and use Windows Mail. I have 3 users on my computer. One of the users can't open email attachments, any type. He can save attachments and open them from the folder, but can't just click and open. I have the same problem as the administrator occasionally. When it happens, I exit the email, re-open and it works fine. No error messages, just nothing happens when I click on the attachment. I have Internet Explorer 8, any chance that has something to do with it? I've downloaded
updates, checked settings, everything is in order as far as I can tell. In security, attachements are allowed and it's set for Internet Zone.

Eventhough the box comes up with the error it does eventually open up the link but I always get the error box first.

When I sent the email, they remained attached but also, they opened up for viewing in the body of the email, making the email HUGE in size. I have searched for ways to turn this feature off, so that the attached photos do not open and show up in the body of the email, but without any luck. Therefore, currently I cannot turn this feature off. I only want photos to be attached, NOT OPEN UP to be viewed in the body of the email. Does anybody know how to change the setting in my Windows Mail so that the attachments will NOT open up?

I reinstalled Vista and then updated with SP1 when I try to open an email attachment that is a Word .doc file it will not open and gives an error message that the file type does not have an application associated with it. The .doc file extension is associated with Word and I have re-associated it several times. The file will open if I save it elsewhere or drag it to my desktop and then open it. Is there something in the registry or elsewhere.

He currently has office 2007 trial on the laptop and I have downloaded word & excel viewer 2003 but most of them are still not opening. The file extension is correct in the directory for vista to open it. I noticed a similar problem in the forum for .doc files but the fix for that did not seem to address the .pps files.

When I upload my photos, they go to the Windows Live picture place instead of just to "my pictures" like they did with XP. When I try to email pictures, they can only be emailed as attachments. This is a huge pain to have to individually open each picture. How can I make my pictures appear in the body of the email so recipients don't have to click to open each picture?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI inadvertently said I was using an exchange server and now I am trapped in a never-ending cycle of error messages that will not let me change the server settings to the appropriate pop server. In XP you can go to: Control Panel/Mail/Email Accounts/View or Change Existing accounts, but this option doesn't seem to exist in Vista. Here are the messages I get and the outcomes, I've also attached a couple of screen shots. "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." At the same time a smaller window is open that says "Configuring Outlook Accounts" The only options presented are to click "X" or "OK" to close the window, once this is done the Microsoft Exchange Window opens with the incorrect server name and account name that I typed in originally. If I try to delete them and click "apply" or "ok" or simply click "X" the following window message appears from Microsoft Outlook:
"Cannot open your default email folders. The file C:/Users/HP/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/Outlook.ost is not an offline folder file." The options at this point are to click "X" or "Ok" once done the program closes. I have tried uninstalling Office and re-installing, but the Microsoft Exchange Server still remains. I am connected to the internet, all I want to do is change from Exchange Server to pop and supply the necessary pop and smtp information to set-up my email properly. I have been pouring over this for the better part of the day and what's worse is this is for my work email. I am in a remote office, on a laptop, without an IT guy at the moment.
I am using a Acer Aspire laptop and using aol webmail for my email. I am not able to open or save attachments from my email. a window will open up and ask to save or open, but when I click open it will save as if it is going to open the attachment but never shows the attachment. when I "save as" an attachment it supposedly sends it to my computer, but I can never find the file. If I go to recent downloads and select the file that I downloaded it says it is missing the shortcut. I am up to date with Adobe Reader for pdf files.

However, when I receive a vCard as an email attachment, it comes with a generic icon and won't open. I tried associating it with MS Outlook, so now it opens a new email, with the vcf file in the attachment spot. If I double-click that, it does it again. Of course, now I can't remove the association - and in any event I don't know what program to put in its place. I've tried clicking the "find appropriate programme on the web". It tells me that the file is a .vcf (I knew that) but doesn't provide me with the program I need. In the past Outlook has just automatically handled this stuff.
