Email From Websites Won't Open
Jul 29, 2009Vista works ok with my email servers. Except when trying to access it from a website, like craigslist. It won't open. Anyone have a fix?

Unable To Open Any Microsoft Websites
Apr 21, 2009I am unable to open any Microsoft websites. I have resetted the Internet explorer. I am able to use the Microsoft website in safe mode with networking but iam no able to browse Microsoft sitre in Normal mode.

Oct 5, 2009When I open the first website it takes 42 seconds. The second takes 20 no matter what order I open them. If I close IE or Firefox and re-open the website it takes 32-40 seconds. The second takes 20. When I open the first program it takes 9 seconds. I do not have a lot of programs running, run my utilities regularly, use CCleaner daily. My hardrive has 50 of 150g used. Is there a way to cut down the load time of the initial website?

Jul 29, 2009All of a sudden I cannot open email attachments from people I've received then from years. But I can open attachments from places of business like JC Penney, Barnes and Noble, etc. I haven't downloaded IE8 yet because after reading some comments here, I fear it will complicate the problem. Do you think it's some kind of Trojan?

May 10, 2009I have vista home premium and use Windows Mail. I have 3 users on my computer. One of the users can't open email attachments, any type. He can save attachments and open them from the folder, but can't just click and open. I have the same problem as the administrator occasionally. When it happens, I exit the email, re-open and it works fine. No error messages, just nothing happens when I click on the attachment. I have Internet Explorer 8, any chance that has something to do with it? I've downloaded
updates, checked settings, everything is in order as far as I can tell. In security, attachements are allowed and it's set for Internet Zone.

Jan 17, 2010When I try to open a link in my email this happens a box opens up and it says Windows cannot find. this happens for everylink I try to open in my email I have Mozilla Firefox as my default but I changed it to IE and it did the same thing I have Vista Home. Eventhough the box comes up with the error it does eventually open up the link but I always get the error box first.

Dec 31, 2009I am using Windows Vista Mail in the Vista Premium Home Version, 2007, Service Pack 2. Recently, I attached some reduced size photos (about 60kb each) to an email. When I sent the email, they remained attached but also, they opened up for viewing in the body of the email, making the email HUGE in size. I have searched for ways to turn this feature off, so that the attached photos do not open and show up in the body of the email, but without any luck. Therefore, currently I cannot turn this feature off. I only want photos to be attached, NOT OPEN UP to be viewed in the body of the email. Does anybody know how to change the setting in my Windows Mail so that the attachments will NOT open up?

Cannot Open Word .doc From Email Attachments
Apr 15, 2008I reinstalled Vista and then updated with SP1 when I try to open an email attachment that is a Word .doc file it will not open and gives an error message that the file type does not have an application associated with it. The .doc file extension is associated with Word and I have re-associated it several times. The file will open if I save it elsewhere or drag it to my desktop and then open it. Is there something in the registry or elsewhere.

The file extension is correct in the directory for vista to open it. I noticed a similar problem in the forum for .doc files but the fix for that did not seem to address the .pps files.

When I upload my photos, they go to the Windows Live picture place instead of just to "my pictures" like they did with XP. When I try to email pictures, they can only be emailed as attachments. Dec 5, 2008I inadvertently said I was using an exchange server and now I am trapped in a never-ending cycle of error messages that will not let me change the server settings to the appropriate pop server. In XP you can go to: Control Panel/Mail/Email Accounts/View or Change Existing accounts, but this option doesn't seem to exist in Vista. Here are the messages I get and the outcomes, I've also attached a couple of screen shots. "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." At the same time a smaller window is open that says "Configuring Outlook Accounts" The only options presented are to click "X" or "OK" to close the window, once this is done the Microsoft Exchange Window opens with the incorrect server name and account name that I typed in originally. If I try to delete them and click "apply" or "ok" or simply click "X" the following window message appears from Microsoft Outlook:
"Cannot open your default email folders. The file C:/Users/HP/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/Outlook.ost is not an offline folder file." The options at this point are to click "X" or "Ok" once done the program closes. I have tried uninstalling Office and re-installing, but the Microsoft Exchange Server still remains. I am connected to the internet, all I want to do is change from Exchange Server to pop and supply the necessary pop and smtp information to set-up my email properly. I have been pouring over this for the better part of the day and what's worse is this is for my work email. I am in a remote office, on a laptop, without an IT guy at the moment.
Can't Get To Websites
Feb 17, 2009I have a wireless laptop. We also have 3 other desktop. They are all connected thru router. All the sudden couple weeks ago my laptop started giving me trouble when it was connected to internet. Btw All but my laptop are Xp. Laptop is Vista. I can get email, I can run my msn messenger and yahoo messenger. I just can't get on websites. I tried rebooting router, turning off laptop. It used to work when I turned off laptop and restarted it would start working till today. It has been over 8 hrs and nothing yet. I
have renews Ipconfig. dns flush all that I can think of. I pinged my other pcs in house and it is pinging fine. I pinged yahoo.com and other sites and the request times out. I have tried Firefox and IE. I run MacAfee.
Unable Open Or Save Email Attachments
Jun 8, 2008I am using a Acer Aspire laptop and using aol webmail for my email. I am not able to open or save attachments from my email. a window will open up and ask to save or open, but when I click open it will save as if it is going to open the attachment but never shows the attachment. when I "save as" an attachment it supposedly sends it to my computer, but I can never find the file. If I go to recent downloads and select the file that I downloaded it says it is missing the shortcut. I am up to date with Adobe Reader for pdf files.

Feb 5, 2009I'm new to this, so hope I'm not being repetitive. I recently started working from a home office. Got most things working fine. However, when I receive a vCard as an email attachment, it comes with a generic icon and won't open. I tried associating it with MS Outlook, so now it opens a new email, with the vcf file in the attachment spot. If I double-click that, it does it again. Of course, now I can't remove the association - and in any event I don't know what program to put in its place. I've tried clicking the "find appropriate programme on the web". It tells me that the file is a .vcf (I knew that) but doesn't provide me with the program I need. In the past Outlook has just automatically handled this stuff.

Dec 3, 2008I’m currently running Windows Vista Ultima 32bit on a Dell Inspiron D530. My problem is I can’t access certain websites i.e. www.linkedin.com the browser will search forever and not find the site or if it does find the site, usually after 15-20min it doesn’t display the page correctly. I don’t think it’s a browser issue (Internet Explorer), the same problem occurs on Safari as well. I have gone thru all the IE7’s and firewall settings, including the virus detector (Trend Micro) nothing seems to work.
I’ve contacted my internet provider (Verizon) and Microsoft to no avail… no one seems to understand why I’m having this issue. I also have two laptops running XP and I don’t have this issue on the laptops Also, if I ping the website it seems to send and receive packets correctly.
Setting Default To Open Email Powerpoint Attachment
Aug 23, 2009My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function.
In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update.
I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.
Certain Websites Not Displaying Correctly In X64
Apr 4, 2008Today, I was forced to use my Vista Ultimate installation disc to reinstall Vista - since yesterday morning, my computer was not able to get out of a loop (first going to Windows Error Recovery and then, when selecting any of the options, going to the green loading bar, where it the green bar stopped moving about 2/3 of the way, and going back to Windows Error Recovery).
The installation went smoothly enough, but I am absolutely clueless how to get my computer to roughly the same conditions it was before this fiasco. Fortunately, it would appear that all of my files and folders from before this re-installation have been saved in the folder Windows.old. However, I am at a complete loss as to how to reconfigure my Internet connection, how to restore my previous screen resolution (there are now only three options for resolution under Display Settings), and essentially getting the basics back in order.
Trouble Accessing Websites.
Feb 1, 2010I haven't been able to access the following sites on my laptop. Descriptions of the problems is included.
-Tumblr (Since October of 2009)
Cant access the site on my laptop. I can on my desktop though.
-Myspace (Since June of 2009)
I cant access the site. With a proxy yes. I crashed my desktop previously by use of a proxy so I really would like to not use one again.
-Facebook (Since Mid-January of 2009)
My inability to access face book has been a reoccurring cyclical problem for me, and it tends to dissapear for three weeks, then reappear for one. This problem was present on my desktop before I got my laptop.

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
My desktop is Windows XP (crashed twice)
I am not an obsessive user of the sites listed above. I use them to keep in contact with family and old friends.
I am the administrator on my laptop, and the only one who uses it.
My virus protection software is the newest version of Norton.
YES I have tried deleting the cache and cookies in my browsers, turning off the firewall, and tried command prompt and received no error messages. There are no blocked sites on my laptop.
I have tried Google Chrome, Safari, IE 7&8, and Firefox. NOTHING WORKS.
The error message that I receive is either unknown error, or "[insert browser] cannot access this webpage]".
Websites Not Displaying Properly
Jun 21, 2009at some sites, the pictures don't download, but instead I get little square placeholder frames with a red x on them. I get this at Kohls.com and also Creativelabs.com. But other websites load fine. It only happens rarely. Especially since I'd like to see what I want to buy from Kohls I am using Vista with IE 8.0.
