View 5 RepliesI have vista home premium and use Windows Mail. I have 3 users on my computer. One of the users can't open email attachments, any type. He can save attachments and open them from the folder, but can't just click and open. I have the same problem as the administrator occasionally. When it happens, I exit the email, re-open and it works fine. No error messages, just nothing happens when I click on the attachment. I have Internet Explorer 8, any chance that has something to do with it? I've downloaded
updates, checked settings, everything is in order as far as I can tell. In security, attachements are allowed and it's set for Internet Zone.
I reinstalled Vista and then updated with SP1 when I try to open an email attachment that is a Word .doc file it will not open and gives an error message that the file type does not have an application associated with it. The .doc file extension is associated with Word and I have re-associated it several times. The file will open if I save it elsewhere or drag it to my desktop and then open it. Is there something in the registry or elsewhere.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI set my partner up with a live.com.au email address and he has been unable to open the attachments. they are word / excel 97-2003 documents and spreadsheets and also some photos - jpg files. He currently has office 2007 trial on the laptop and I have downloaded word & excel viewer 2003 but most of them are still not opening. I had a couple open and then the next day when I tried to open them again to save them well they wouldn't.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently started using vista on a new computer. When receiving email in vista mail I cannot open attachments with .pps file. It will open if I save it. The file extension is correct in the directory for vista to open it. I noticed a similar problem in the forum for .doc files but the fix for that did not seem to address the .pps files.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using a Acer Aspire laptop and using aol webmail for my email. I am not able to open or save attachments from my email. a window will open up and ask to save or open, but when I click open it will save as if it is going to open the attachment but never shows the attachment. when I "save as" an attachment it supposedly sends it to my computer, but I can never find the file. If I go to recent downloads and select the file that I downloaded it says it is missing the shortcut. I am up to date with Adobe Reader for pdf files.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSince migrating to Windows Mail a year ago on a new PC running Vista, I've been unable to open, or to save and open, email attachments received in .pdf or .jpg format. When I try to open .pdf attachments, I get an error message reading, "This
file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." If I save a .pdf attachment in Adobe Reader and then try to open it, I get a message saying, "Adobe Reader could not open [file] because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I run Adobe Reader 8. Where do I look to find a solution to this problem? Is it related to the similar problem with JPEG's?
I can't get attachments to open and I have looked under options to see if there is something blocking them but can't see anything there.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter updating to IE8 through normal Windows Update, I can no longer open PDF attachments in Acrobat as I could before. Message states it cannot find the file. I can save the attachment and then open with Acrobat. I have removed the IE8 update and hence reverted to original IE7. The problem is hence resolved. My guess is IE8 has somehow changed the temp file location, and hence the file cannot be found. There must be a registry pointer change that caused this. I'll keep IE7 until the group can come up with a simple fix or recommendation.

The system suggests Adobe or Internet Explorer neither of which works. I've tried to get my Microsoft Works Word to open it but I'm not having any luck. I don't have Microsoft Word, could that be my problem.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have windows vista only 1 year old It updates on schedule and virus and etc scans everyday and I have never had any problem until last week of opening my attachments even ones I send to family of family pictures, I have scanned my picture folder and no problems but in my emails after the emails come in and I go to open attachment, (and yes I know the ones I open are safe to) they will not open it just tells me there is no file, even on ones I have previouly sent out, now if I exit windows mail and then go back in I can open the attachments, in researching someone somewhere said certain emails with certain graphics, example they mentioned Kim Komando newsletters, would prevent you opening your own attach, I found this is true even with weather updates, pollen updates for allergys, and pillsbury newsletters and etc, anything with grapics

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen receiving attachments with logo or photos (word or excel) I cannot open them. I get the above message. Then I get the message "file format may not be supported by any of the installed convertors or the file may be corrupt". If I instruct not to convert the doc opens but without photos or logos. If I forward same email and attachment to another computer running windows xp there is no problem opening the file.
