Two Email Clients Open Simultaneously?

May 10, 2008

Can you have two email clients open at the same time without conflicts (e.g. Windows Mail & Outlook 07)? I currently have all of my POP3 setup in Windows Mail (since purchasing the laptop over a year ago) and recently setup Outlook 07 simply to retrieve Hotmail. So, it is not like they are checking the same accounts.

USB Broadband And WIFI Simultaneously

Nov 25, 2009

I have a Vista laptop which connects via wifi to my home network router and I can access all the PCs and Printers and internet no problem. I now have to do some work away from home and will purchase a USB Broadband modem which will give me mobile internet/email, but I will still want to move files and print when at home.

If I have my USB Modem and my Wifi enabled at the same time, can I access the Internet via the USB Modem, while accessing the PCs and Printers at home? How would my laptop know to access the Internet via the dongle modem and not through the router and modem on the home network?

Contacts Stopped Getting Online Almost Simultaneously

Mar 16, 2010

this problem has driving me crazy for several months now, I'll try to be short with this: By chance 3 contacts from my friends list stopped getting online almost simultaneously; I already checked and none of them have deleted me nor blocked me, I just haven't had any contact with them since then and I'm desperate as to know what is happening.

Before this triple problem the same happened to me with one of my contacts (which is actually one of this 3 people): I stopped seeing her online and therefore talking to her for like 2-3 months and eventually one day she got online, I told him what had happened and she didn't know what was I saying; she told me that she had been getting online as always and that all this time she could actually see me online, she even thought I didn't want to talk to her, but it's just that I couldn't see her online!; well, the same is happening to me again now but with 2 more contacts. Like I said, deleted/blocked is not an option, what else can it be happening?

KMS Clients Not Contact Server?

Apr 6, 2008

I'm in the middle of my Vista deployment, I had a test KMS server runing on a Windows2003 SP1 box. It worked (I got events in the KMS event viewer) but because I did not reach my 25 Vista tests machines I left it runing until I started the real deployment. And now surprise. The clients do not talk to the KMS server (sysprep'd clients), the DNS records are correct, I tried to add manually the KMS server in the registry "KeyManagementServiceName" in WindowsNTCurrentVersionSL, I also tried slmgr -skms myserver.mydomain.com (I used my real server name of course) that resulted in error 800706BA "RPC not available" even if the port 1688 is open on the server - remember the KMS server was working before...

I also tried installing another KMS 1.1 on a Windows 2003 SP2 box without more success (the KMS setup runs smoothly) on the client side. I ran a packet capture and found that the Vista Client does not even try to connect to any server on port 1688, the only connection I can see is an http to microsoft.com that fails because of our authentication proxy. By the way the error I see in the event log on the clients is 8004FE33 (Proxy auth) as long as IE is configured with our proxy and if I remove the proxy config I get an 80072EFD unable to connect to server when I run slmgr -ato.

ICS Trouble W/2 XP Clients To X64 Host Net

Apr 9, 2008

I had two XPSP2 clients that successfully used a third XPSP2 host to connect to the 'Net. Host used onboard NIC to the cable modem. Two additional NICs connected the clients to the host. I installed Vista x64 with the SP1 update on the host PC. After enabling the host to modem connection as shared,
only one client can access the net. Both clients appeared in the connected clients tab to use the shared connection but only one can be selected. Both clients can access the host's shared folders, as well as the host can access both client's shared resources. How can I set up the host and the clients so all three can access the 'Net?

Can't Open Email Attachments

May 10, 2009

I have vista home premium and use Windows Mail. I have 3 users on my computer. One of the users can't open email attachments, any type. He can save attachments and open them from the folder, but can't just click and open. I have the same problem as the administrator occasionally. When it happens, I exit the email, re-open and it works fine. No error messages, just nothing happens when I click on the attachment. I have Internet Explorer 8, any chance that has something to do with it? I've downloaded
updates, checked settings, everything is in order as far as I can tell. In security, attachements are allowed and it's set for Internet Zone.

Attachment Not Open Up Email

Dec 31, 2009

I am using Windows Vista Mail in the Vista Premium Home Version, 2007, Service Pack 2. Recently, I attached some reduced size photos (about 60kb each) to an email. When I sent the email, they remained attached but also, they opened up for viewing in the body of the email, making the email HUGE in size. I have searched for ways to turn this feature off, so that the attached photos do not open and show up in the body of the email, but without any luck. Therefore, currently I cannot turn this feature off. I only want photos to be attached, NOT OPEN UP to be viewed in the body of the email. Does anybody know how to change the setting in my Windows Mail so that the attachments will NOT open up?

Email Don't Have To Click To Open Each Picture

Sep 21, 2009

I have gotten a new computer with Windows Vista which I'm not familiar with. When I upload my photos, they go to the Windows Live picture place instead of just to "my pictures" like they did with XP. When I try to email pictures, they can only be emailed as attachments. This is a huge pain to have to individually open each picture. How can I make my pictures appear in the body of the email so recipients don't have to click to open each picture?

Can't Open Default Email Folder

Dec 5, 2008

I inadvertently said I was using an exchange server and now I am trapped in a never-ending cycle of error messages that will not let me change the server settings to the appropriate pop server. In XP you can go to: Control Panel/Mail/Email Accounts/View or Change Existing accounts, but this option doesn't seem to exist in Vista. Here are the messages I get and the outcomes, I've also attached a couple of screen shots. "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." At the same time a smaller window is open that says "Configuring Outlook Accounts" The only options presented are to click "X" or "OK" to close the window, once this is done the Microsoft Exchange Window opens with the incorrect server name and account name that I typed in originally. If I try to delete them and click "apply" or "ok" or simply click "X" the following window message appears from Microsoft Outlook:
"Cannot open your default email folders. The file C:/Users/HP/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/Outlook.ost is not an offline folder file." The options at this point are to click "X" or "Ok" once done the program closes. I have tried uninstalling Office and re-installing, but the Microsoft Exchange Server still remains. I am connected to the internet, all I want to do is change from Exchange Server to pop and supply the necessary pop and smtp information to set-up my email properly. I have been pouring over this for the better part of the day and what's worse is this is for my work email. I am in a remote office, on a laptop, without an IT guy at the moment.

Vcard Email Attachment Icon Won't Open

Feb 5, 2009

I'm new to this, so hope I'm not being repetitive. I recently started working from a home office. Got most things working fine. However, when I receive a vCard as an email attachment, it comes with a generic icon and won't open. I tried associating it with MS Outlook, so now it opens a new email, with the vcf file in the attachment spot. If I double-click that, it does it again. Of course, now I can't remove the association - and in any event I don't know what program to put in its place. I've tried clicking the "find appropriate programme on the web". It tells me that the file is a .vcf (I knew that) but doesn't provide me with the program I need. In the past Outlook has just automatically handled this stuff.

Setting Default To Open Email Powerpoint Attachment

Aug 23, 2009

My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function.

In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update.

I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.
