The Recycle Bin dont deletes the items what is in the recycle bin i was 0.maked theseinstructions(URL)but nope. On the desktop when i open the recycle bin the items are stillin the recycle bin ,but when opens Computer>Local Disk (C$RECYCLE.BIN)Recycle Bin shows folder is empty.What to do for emptying full the recycle bin what is on the desktop?
Any folder starting with the letter a or a number will be deleted upon reboot. It also empties the recycle bin on reboot but I have resigned myself to live with this idiosyncrasy.
View 7 Replies View RelatedVista Basic x32 sp2. I can remember back when, I would install a windows os. I would use fdisk and wipe out the partiion, format the drive and install the os. If I remember correctly, the format, even on a 30gb, hd would take 1/2 an hour or more. Now I have a 160gb hd and recently have re-installed vista using the format option. The format took about 1 minute. Is this normal? Using the format option does vista actually format the drive or simply deletes everything on the partition?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI ran the critical update (Vista) and it wiped out the desktop, leaving a blank slate. Each time I restart there is a lenghty message in Chinese with "ok" as the only option. I ran system restore to get back to the time just before this update, which restored my desktop. I am convinced that this update is buggy and should not be installed without a deep backup in place. It works fine with XP but not with Vista in my set of machines. How can this be reported to Microsoft? Or am I doing something wrong? The system is completely legal and registered.

1.) 'Dual-booting XP deletes Vista restore points | PC Tips'. - Here, it is reported that dual-booting Vista/XP will cause Vista's restore points to be lost, which I do not want to occur. With the OS being installed on 2 separate drives (one SATA, one IDE) in my case, is there a chance this happens?
2.) How do I set up which OS my computer boots from? Do I use the BIOS menu and declare the IDE drive as the primary drive to boot from, or is there a way I can actually set up a boot loader that will let me choose which OS to use, without using BIOS directly?
I've been using Windows Mail for 18 months without any significant problems.
Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. When patching from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1, the process kept stoping and 70% then just exit without returning any error in return. So i thought i should run the Repair tool and try again. Only now, when i tried to access WoW.exe i got this error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
So i came upon this little reg file called Take Ownership, i ran it but nothing has changed. Also, if i: right click wow.exe->properties->compatibility i cannot tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. My only options now, are a complete reinstall of the game and patches (but that's just wrong, because there has to be a more logical solution).
is software like games able to use all 4 cores? i heard that most apps dont use quad core yet. if not, Is it possible to have say 2 cores used for running a game, then the other 2 to run all my background tasks, or even everything else on my pc, so that there are always 2 cores free for games or rendering etc.

Curious thing is it sais i dont have any currently update installed in my pc anymore. Few days ago the list was full with updates and now I dont have any on the list. For make it worse now my system restore tells me that i dont have any system restore point so i cant restore to any point before i get all the errors and stuff.
I cant drag attachments off email. Word docs wont open at all, and wma music files will open in Win media player with a d-click, but I cant save them anywhere or pick the player I want to use. This box has IE7, but I never use it (Firefox).

When I use the Folder Options dialog to change the options to show hidden files or system files, the change is applied in the file pane but not in the folder pane. To get it to apply there I have to close Explorer and restart it. Is there a way to get this to work right?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't track down the exact thing that changed, but many of my internet plug-ins (QuickTime, Silverlight, Air) won't work properly. I will install the plug-in, then when I go to a site that requires it, it says it's not installed, despite clearly being the Program registry.
When I use QuickTime, I can go to various sites that have QT movies and they load fine, but if I go to Apple.com, it says I need to grab the newest QuickTime. Silverlight apps won't load at all. Any time I go to Adobe's marketplace for AIR apps, despite having one running, it says that I need to install Air. This is in both IE7 and Firefox.

So I just want to reinstall Vista I tried the Vista repair and surprise it finds nothing wrong. It looks like if you have problems with vista your just screwed totally. View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I am goofy and want my Vista Ultimate to play my own wav files instead of the ones it came with. but they simply don't play at all. I have done everything I know how to get this to work. I go to control panel sounds and the sound tab and have put the .wav files i want to use into the C:/Windows/Media folder and am able to select them through the sound menu... but the test option plays nothing for my wavs and it doesnt do anything when the system is supposed to make said sound...
I even checked all the properties to make sure they were the same the only differance I can see is that the sound files that work are owned by the system and the ones that dont are owned by administraitor. I do know how to change the ownership of files through the properties menu but even in Administraitor mode there is no option for system... I do not however think that it is the cause... is it that vista just doesnt want you using your own sound files?
Vista Ultimate 32bit isn't recognising my mouse or keyboard on boot. They both work in bios, the setup cd, and ubuntu Linux, on the same PC. This all started when I had to repartiton my drive - I moved the partition vista was on to the start, and deleted a partion i had there. When I tried to boot after doing this, it said there was no bootmanager present, so I put in the vista update disk and that fixed it. Windows booted as normal, but now, when it gets to the login screen, the keyboard and mouse do not work. They are not USB, they are enabled in BIOS, I've tried a hard reset, and I have tried in safe mode.
