When I try to run TFTP I get a message box that says either I dont have privileges or there is already an ftp server running. I have administrator privileges and this message comes up even if I choose 'run as administrater'. Is there an ftp server that runs when vista starts? How do I turn it off? Is there an ftp service?

Just loaded Vista Ultimate 32 bit and when I try to join a ranked server in BF2 I get booted because punkbuster has inadequate operating system privileges. Does anyone know the work around? I tried turning off the firewall and running in compatibility mode (win xp)
View 9 Replies View RelatedUtorrent keeps not responding after like 3 hours of running. I close it but it the task manager, it says its still running with *32 next to it. So does IE when I close that. They close visualy, but they dont close in the task manager and keep running. I cant open a new Utorrent because it says its still running. I havto keep restarting my computer. Its a new computer (only like a week old) so WTF do I do? I have the 64 bit vista. Looks as tho no 32 bit program gets terminated (or atleast the ones with the *32 next to them. WTF do I do?

So I just want to reinstall Vista I tried the Vista repair and surprise it finds nothing wrong. It looks like if you have problems with vista your just screwed totally. Just a rant of frustration in the last sentence.

I have renamed both workgroups to match up but vista still does not see the machine. I have network discovery enabled. I can ping the xp machine and resolve the name with ping -a . The xp machine is plugged into the cable router/modem. And vista is on a wireless connection to the same router. But if I type \xp machine is does not find it. \ip address it does. I had an issue with "you dont have permission to access this server" so I made a registry change on the xp machine to allow anonymous connections.

When I use Save As, the software will not permit me to save the file, because it tells me that I need "administrator privileges." I am running on a Vista 32-bit platform. When I right-click the desktop icon in question in order to use Run as Administrator, the option does not appear in the drop-down list, as it does for other software programs that I use. View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed vista ultimate x64 on my PC. After a while, I ran into some programs that requested I run them on the Administrator account. Not wanting to have to right-click and select the option every-time I installed something, I decided to enable the Administrator account with the command I found on the net, namely net user administrator /active:yes Restart, log into Administrator account, all is well. Naturally, not wanting to re-install all the programs, I simply copied the AppData, Documents and Desktop folders from the previous account over the ones in the Administrator account. All is well. I want to install a program and I receive the error message that I, the f-ing Administrator, don't have the privileges to install the program to it's pre-specified directory. So I go to the ProgramData folder (that's where most programs go) and check the Security properties. Administrators and System accounts have full permision enabled in every single sub-section of the option.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a quesiton which has been bugging me since we rolled out Vista to our desktops almost a years ago....Whenever I have to go to a users PC to install a new device (USB Storage Key for example) I usually have to spend about 10 minutes there as the Elevated Privileges dialoge box will pop up several times, as each component of the device tries to install itself...Is there any way to set this up so that when you apporve a device or installation, all the drivers and components for that device are also approved for install - it's quite frustratring having to spend 10 minutes doing a task which should take 30 seconds!

Today, however, I wanted to reply to a craigslist seller and found that my computer was trying to send the email with windows mail (and not sending!)- it was asking me questions like who my outgoing server and incoming server is - can anyone tell me what I need to do? When patching from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1, the process kept stoping and 70% then just exit without returning any error in return. So i thought i should run the Repair tool and try again. Only now, when i tried to access WoW.exe i got this error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
So i came upon this little reg file called Take Ownership, i ran it but nothing has changed. Also, if i: right click wow.exe->properties->compatibility i cannot tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. My only options now, are a complete reinstall of the game and patches (but that's just wrong, because there has to be a more logical solution).
is software like games able to use all 4 cores? i heard that most apps dont use quad core yet. if not, Is it possible to have say 2 cores used for running a game, then the other 2 to run all my background tasks, or even everything else on my pc, so that there are always 2 cores free for games or rendering etc.

I cant drag attachments off email. Word docs wont open at all, and wma music files will open in Win media player with a d-click, but I cant save them anywhere or pick the player I want to use. This box has IE7, but I never use it (Firefox).

When I use the Folder Options dialog to change the options to show hidden files or system files, the change is applied in the file pane but not in the folder pane. To get it to apply there I have to close Explorer and restart it. Is there a way to get this to work right?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't track down the exact thing that changed, but many of my internet plug-ins (QuickTime, Silverlight, Air) won't work properly. I will install the plug-in, then when I go to a site that requires it, it says it's not installed, despite clearly being the Program registry.
When I use QuickTime, I can go to various sites that have QT movies and they load fine, but if I go to Apple.com, it says I need to grab the newest QuickTime. Silverlight apps won't load at all. Any time I go to Adobe's marketplace for AIR apps, despite having one running, it says that I need to install Air. This is in both IE7 and Firefox.
