I will be running a PC with Vista Ultimate. I noticed that it has IIS services like FTP and a web server? I used to run a simple web server with WinXPPro. it is easy to get set up? I just want a simple web server and possibly a FTP server running.
When I try to run TFTP I get a message box that says either I dont have privileges or there is already an ftp server running. I have administrator privileges and this message comes up even if I choose 'run as administrater'. Is there an ftp server that runs when vista starts? How do I turn it off? Is there an ftp service?

This computer is new to me and so is vista - I have had no problem with email because I have always gone to my own ISP via explorer. Today, however, I wanted to reply to a craigslist seller and found that my computer was trying to send the email with windows mail (and not sending!)- it was asking me questions like who my outgoing server and incoming server is - can anyone tell me what I need to do? Do I have to use windows mail or can my computer be set to default to yahoo email like my old one was?
When I created my windows mail I account I entered SMPT as my outgoing server. THat is not correct. So how do I find out the correct server and then how do I change it?
I'm trying to send an email to someone on craigslist. I'm being asked to set up email servers: Incomming email server type- POP3, IMAP, HTTP? Incomming email server? Outgoing email server name?
My power went down and when it returned, I could not access the internet via my Cisco Linksys router, model WRT350N. Windows diagnostics returned the subject error message. After 12 hours of researching and trying a number of "fixes" suggested on many forums, including this one, I resolved this problem by simply updating the firmware on the router. I'm guessing that some Windows Vista update caused an incompatibility and when the computer and the router were rebooted after the power outage, the incompatibility was activated.
I am staying with family temporarily after selling my home. I kept my roadrunner account to retain my email addresses until I find a new home. I am hooked up to their internet, Verizon FIOS, thru a wireless connection. I am receiving my mail in Windows mail, but I can't seem to get the outgoign configured to send on their server. I entered the smtp server, outgoing.verizon.net and set it for authentication using their email and password but that doesn't work.
2 weeks ago i brought a £450 brand new computer and ive been on the internet before with it all working on Sky broadband. last friday we changed to broadband but they gave us the wrong router so they left us with that one and promised us a better newer one when they returned. again the internet was fine and all working. yesterday they brought us the router and i currently have 3 computers working on the network.....
I only get this problem on two wireless networks, either the one at my home, or the one in my University house. I get intermittent internet, it cuts out, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, and the only way to get it back is by resetting the router, and running a diagnose + repair from Network and Sharing Centre and then by Resetting the Wireless Router, which doesn't always fix the problem. Sometimes I get a "Windows cannot connect to DNS Server" error, and sometimes it just fixes itself.
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. I tried to install VMWare Server when I came across a very big problem. It has 4 drivers that weren't installed b/c Vista x64 requires that they be signed. Is there a way around this, or am I just not allowed to have VMWare Server? If it's not possible, I'm open to other alternatives. Assuming it's free like VMWare Server
i have this USB Server made by Elite Silicon its basically a 4 Port USB Server. I can install it and use it fine on XP but on my vista machine it detects it and installs the software and can see the devices in the software supplied how ever i cannot connect to it and it brings up the following error:
USB Server Bus does not exist. Please uninstall the USBServer and reinstall it. I have done this but its made no difference. I dont know if it just doesnt like vista or doesnt like it as im using a 64bit version. Does anyone know where i might be able to find some better drivers for this. As vista doesnt seem to be able to find any. All the files on the cd that come with it are in one MSI which i cant extract them out of either.
As you may have noticed we are having major server issues ATM. I never expected this much traffic and tbh the server just cant cope. I will continue to try to sort it out for the next few hours but if I cant I will switch the site to my backup linux server as this windows box just doesnt seem upto the job.
At home I have a file server ( Its named Bigred)running windows xp pro. I am using simple file sharing on the network. Its not on a domain its on a workgroup. The only software I have running on it is tversity and utorrent. On my vista machine or any other computer, I cannot connect to \bigred through explorer, but if I add in a share name \bigredphotos it works just fine. Windows xp was just installed today with all updates.
I know that this is a popular topic, I've read all the solutions I can find but I'm still stumped. I am using Vista to connect to my work network via a vpn to our ISA 2007 server. When connected to the VPN, NSLOOKUP works but all other programs (like PING and IE) can not resolve the address of our internal servers.
I have coded a connection specific DNS sufix. I can verify that IPCONFIG shows the two work DNS servers. NSLOOKUP does see the work DNS server as the default. I do have the 'use remote gateway' option checked in my VPN connector.
Yet, when I connect to the VPN I lose all ability to do DNS lookups for everything execpt NSLOOKUP. (This is somewhat resonable since my ISP's DNS server will not respond to DNS requests that do not originate on their network. If I could connect to them, the work DNS servers would also supply addresses from the Internet.)......
i am having problems in resolving a standing issue: our building is split into two parts each with its own router. the routers given generic IP as follows
192.168.9.255 and 192.168.11.255
we have a NAS server running windows 2003 server hooked on to the router 192.168.11.255 - its IP is 192.168.11.21 ... all the systems hooked to the same router are able to 'see' the NAS server and transact with it. (vista, linux, os x - all of them)
however, on the other side, the windows vista systems connected to 192.168.9.255 do not see the NAS server. Linux systems on this subnet can again see as well as connect to it, so can os x systems. eventhough vista cannot see the server, ping works with the server fine from these vista systems too.
I need a program which can turn my computer into an FTP server. It should be freeware preferably and not with a lot of interfaces and icons there and then...
I have followed the email set up instructions from my internet provider and I keep coming up with the error The host 'pop-server could not be found. Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11003, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D. I have gone over the setup repeatedly, and the support from roadrunner told me to use outlook. Which I dont have office installed at this time.
I'm trying to set up e-mail on my new computer and Windows Security will not let me log on to my mail server. I have set up my account according to the info in my previous Outlook Express Account including POP3 server SMTP server etc and input mu user name and password. However, when I try to send and receive and input the User Name and Password (they do match those in the Account Settings. I've typed them so slowly you just wouldn't believe) the windows security window just keeps popping up asking me to enter my User name and Password.
I too recently bought a Gateway MD2614u, I use a 3g modem, a huawei e 156 c to be pecific! I've had some browser problems, the last couple of days, except for today, but still! hen I go to network and sharing, view status, diagnose: Cannot connect to DNS server > 200.223.0.83
For the last 5 or 6 days ,I have had to restore my computer to an earlier point to be able to access the internet. I get a cannot find server that comes up then I click on my fire fox icon on my desk top to access my cox.net and it gives the can't find server. I called cox and the could see that there was no problem with the server.
I recently upgraded to Vista Home Premium (I like it) but I can not for the life of me figure out how to reactivate my IIS server. I installed IIS 7 and have opened port 80 and done all of the port forwarding and pass through on my Linksys that is necessary (this worked very well under XP and IIS 5.5 with the same Linksys settings on the same physical machine). The second issue may be related. I can not get to any external web sites via IE 7 when I am connected via Cisco VPN to any of my clients' sites. This was never an issue under IE 7 and XP and I can not seem to figure out what setting to change.
