I'm trying to set up e-mail on my new computer and Windows Security will not let me log on to my mail server. I have set up my account according to the info in my previous Outlook Express Account including POP3 server SMTP server etc and input mu user name and password. However, when I try to send and receive and input the User Name and Password (they do match those in the Account Settings. I've typed them so slowly you just wouldn't believe) the windows security window just keeps popping up asking me to enter my User name and Password.
I'm trying to send an email to someone on craigslist. I'm being asked to set up email servers: Incomming email server type- POP3, IMAP, HTTP? Incomming email server? Outgoing email server name?

I've tried troubleshooting from the Yahoo mail help but nothing seems to work (for example, changing to port 587, turning on SSL). It was working fine before. I have a question about setting up an account from other than my isp, ex: comcast. I am a volunteer at a christmas website and I need to set up an account. When I set it up the same as I did in outlook express I get the error message that my login has failed. However, I can access the account on webmai.
since upgrading tp Vista, Both windows Mail and Live mail do not always donnload messages from my pop 3 accounts. I have to open my accounts online and when I have opened the accounts both mail and live mail will then down load messages, This does not happen all of the time, so I know the account settings are correct. It is just annoying that I have to check online every day rather than just checking mail or live mail. This never happened with XP running Outlook Express. is this a problem with Vista, or my mail servers
Just managed to get my incoming mail sorted (hopefully full-time) and now getting the following error message when sending: 'The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

I tried to post this earlier, but I don't see it. Sorry if this is a duplicate.I have an HP laptop with Vista as the OS. I use Windows Mail to access my aim.com email. I've used this for over a year. Suddenly, I am getting the following error. I can connect to the aim web mail, so my password, etc is valid and working. This seems to be an SSL error, but I have not changed my configuration of the servers in Windows Mail. Any ideas why this is suddenly occurring?
Error message: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.aim.com', Server: 'pop.aim.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
How can you keep the mail in the server after it is sent to windows mail. Express 6 had that option so the mail was avaliable on the server in case you used a different computer to review e-mails at a later time.
I am having trouble sending my e-mail messages it askes me the name of servers - incoming and outgoing names. (ex. POP or IMAP.......) I am using aol. Does anyone know what the aol incoming and outgoing server names are? I've already tried imap.aol.com for incoming mail and SMTP.aol.com for outgoing and these combinations don't work.
Just got a new computer (Vista) set up Windows Mail, worked fine past couple of days then today no e-mails have come through, very unusual, so I checked my server and there were several on the server. I have poked around behind the scenes on WM to no avail.
I am interested in using Windows Mail but first I would like to make sure that all the e-mails I send using Windows Live will be saved both in Windows Live and the website version of each of the e-mail accounts I will add. I would like to know if the same applies for the e-mails I receive.
Is there any way to leave the mail on the server as well as downloading it into Windows Mail? I have a personal laptop, but also access my personal email during lunch and breaks from my work laptop. Would be nice if the messages were still on the server to read and reply to....
Unable to get Windows Mail working. Error message reading;

We have a mail service through a site called Proapp. how i can fix this or have i done something irreversible?
I set a rule over a year ago in WindowsMail on Vista machine, to delete from the server, all mail over 750KBs. Now we have a faster connection and I want to change that, but can't find where. It's not listed in Message/Rule/Mail. Where is it located in WindowsMail? This is same machine and same WindowsMail. This is a Vista Home Premium computer with serv pack 2.
having problems setting up my e-mail account on the laptop. On my desktop I'm setup w/att.yahoo.com when I set it with the same configuration as my desktop I get this error msg.
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'att.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Not sure why but I get (often) very bad performance using NNTP with Windows Mail (Windows Business) Often I will click on a group or message and wait and wait. After I while I get the msg that the server has not responded and I can stop or wait. This happens almost every time I use Usenet. It is not isolated to the Microsoft group as I also get Usenet posts through external-September.
I have used Usenet for 15 years and never had this problem till recently. People who use the same ISP as me don't have this problem. On occasion I can use it just fine so it is not a (personal) firewall issue.
My e-mail was working on my vista laptop until recently. It is working fine on two other machines running XP. The machine running Vista no longer connects to my e-mail server.
Why can't the windows mail find the server? We have Earthlink and I keeping getting a message that it is trying to connect to "earthlink.net" and below that "Finding Host" . The Internet is up and working so why can't it connect? I have 8 messages that have been there for a week
I want to go back to using my old server but I am not sure how? I didn't even really meant to set this up. how I can reverse it so I get my mail back in my university account?
Im not really much of a computer wizzkid so pardon me if im not making much sense. I went into tools>account>default mail account>servers tab> My problem started then. Stupidly i changed my password thinking that i would be able to set it to open up and ask me for one when i tried to access my mail. My reaon for this was so others wouldnt be able to see my mail as i constantly forget to lock my laptop when im away from it.
Anyway i clicked apply and close. then i pressed send/recieve to checkif i had any new mail come in. A popup appeared asking for my username and password so i inouted the password that i had just changed. This is not working for me. And i do not know the old password to change back.
I have been trying to set up Windows Mail. I get an error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account:
'POP3.live.com', Server: 'SMPT.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E. I have disable my email virus scanning. I have checked with Qwest about the correct ports, 25 for outgoing and 995 for incoming. SSL is checked. My server requires authentication is checked. Incoming mail is POP3.live.com. Outgoing is smpt.live.com. I have Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 with a 64 bit operating system.
cannot send mail. The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: update', Account: 'pop.*******.ca', Server: 'smtp.*******.ca', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
A previously functioning Windows mail account now won't send mail. I've tried fixes suggested in the help screens by opening properties, changing authentication, etc. Nothing has worked. Here's the error message. Means absolutely nothing to me. The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Could it be related to Comcast's changeover?
I want to add an account to my windowasmail but I dont know where to find my POP servername and SMTP outgoing servername. Where can I find witch server names my computer has?
