im not sure if anybodys gonna know what im talking about because im a swedish vista-user and therefore using a swedish usb-modem. i know nothing about computers so i dont know if a modem called huwaei E220 is known outside of sweden. anyway, thats the name of the modem im trying to get to work on my vista laptop. ive called telia (my internet provider) support and ive done everything theyve told me to do. i upgraded the modem accordingly, yet im still experiencing problems. the modem works on my stationary comp, and always has, but when i try to get it to work on my vista laptop it does not. before i upgraded it didnt even recognize that something had been attatched, but now every time i put the usb in it starts to install the proper programs but then after a few seconds it says that the installation failed. it tells me data interface couldnt be installed, and also another program - huwaei modem 'something something' (i dont remember). and i click on 'retry' but no luck. it says i should put my disc for data interface in.. but i dont have one. gee wiz, i dont even know what data interface is.
i was wondering if someone could tell me if there is a way to go back to the old way my computer was before i installed the update for vista...i hate the new way and lost all my icons and data....
my vista laptop crashed and i have some very important emails on it. I have its hard drive connected to my pc via a usb cradle and can access it ok. i have recovered all the email and they are .mbx files. couldnt get them into XP OE so I installed vista because i thought it would be compatible.
i have new laptop with vista as OS,i have trouble with setting for office network. In my office we use cable LAN through to the server and via server we connected to internet.Basicly when i connect LAN Cable to my new laptop,i can directly use internet, but when i want to explore my network place, there is no other computer that i can see in my network, just my computer. Before when i used windows xp,i can take file from server but now with vista i couldnt take file from server because in the network explore there is no other computer that i can explore.
Went to install the update for DirectX and the installation failed with error messege saying a cab file couldnt be trusted and to make sure Cryptographics was activated to verify the file. Cryptographic services in " services" is set to automatic and started so its running. Running Kaspersky AV, I shut it down when I ran the installer...Attached is the error Mess.
I'm on my pc playing games and being bored everything fine and whatever. Got tired so I shut my pc off and then went to bed, ect. Got up in the morning turned my pc on and said it couldnt find a bootable disk or w/e it says when it finds no OS. (what ever happened also killed my Win7x64 on my other HDD)
I have 2 Seagate 500GB HDD each with a 32MB Cache. So what I did was formatted the win7 hdd and instead of x64 went x32 and got win7 back on. Now I was thinking that the HDD was completely dead and couldnt have anything done with it until today a friend of mine told me he had something similar happen and then his dad put some program on his computer and it fixed everything. Now if this is the case for me then I really would love to get this sorted out because this HDD has all my data from work on different things over the last 2 years and none of it is backed up.
Oh and the HDD that died has windows Vista Basicx32 on it. So basically I need to know if there is a possiblity that my HDD isn't dead and I can revive it and still use it. And if I can then how would I go about doing this?
my computer was attacked by advance virus remover (fake antivirus) and i managed to get rid of it but today after restart i couldnt open any program. even ctrl+alt+delete didnt woked. i did some stuff and now its working but only one problem. on every program i run before it starts i get this error:
My daughter bought a computer several years ago made by HP that runs Vista Home edition 32 bit we upgraded the video card and power supply when she bought it. Went with NVidia GeForce 3500 at the time pretty decent card we thought. Well now shes had some issues that forced her to restore the system and we couldnt find the install info for the card. Went to NVidia's website and downloaded drivers now the computer wont boot up. We keep getting a blue screen that says windows encountered a problem. I cant remember if the system came with a card that wasnt cutting it or if there was integrated graphics on the motherboard. So when we experienced the problem booting after installing drivers for the card I went into setup and changed the video to onboard graphics now we get nothing at bootup and monitor keeps going to sleep.
I have a problem trying to Map an XP drive on my Vista Home Basic Laptop that is proving a nightmare: We have several computers on our netwrok, including the XP server itself where we have our shared documents. (place where all shared files go that we want other users to see) I have mapped the same shared docs folder accross all of out XP machines. Plugged my Vista Home Basic Laptop into our network, couldnt map the shared docs folder on my server. After reading many how to's, i followed this guide: Microsoft Corporation I have downloaded and installed the LLTD responder on the server with XP All computers were restarted, now when looking on the laptops "Veiw full map" I can see FILE_STORAGE (our server) but the guide above says right click on the computer running XP, however when I do this nothing happens, it is a solid icon and clicking it does nothing.
All computers including the laptop are on the same workgroup The laptop has appeared when looking on the XP machine under viewing the network I have opened ports UDP: 137, 138, 1900 and TCP 21, 139, 445 2869 We have AVG Antivirus and Firewall on all machines including the laptop. AVG does not allow you to open ports, so the above ports were opened on my router. When I plugged the laptop into the network AVG asked me to select a profile, I selected ALLOW ALL for the time being as "Computer In Domain" was not there to select. The vista laptop has Network Disc. ON, File Sharing ON, Public Folder Sharing ON and Printer Sharing ON One thing I couldnt get my head round was the differance between Workgroup and Network. The workgroup is the same on all computers, but I wasnt aware that I had ever given a "Network" name on any of the XP machine. Vista did ask for a "Network" name. For safety i put the same name as is in the workgroup. Anyone any ideas, im desperate?
restart of my system? Event viewer? I was on line reading news when my system gave me a blue screen, couldnt read everything fast enough... something to the fact it shut down to protect windows.....it was a full screen of dialogthen restarted. Hasnt ever happened before.. didnt click on any links or anything...seems to be running fine after restart.
i got this ultimate vista 64-bit installed every driver worked just fine but the graphic card. I got nvidia geforce 8400 gs 512mb i couldnt install the driver keeps telling me " nvidia setup program couldnt locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardward, setup will now exit "
Do you use the web-based VMWare Management Interface to control your ESX server and have problems opening virtual machines in IE7? Many user have reported that instead of getting the open prompt in IE7 they get a find option instead. To fix this, you need to define the application/x-vmware-console MIME type so IE7 allows you to open the file.
Open up notepad.
Copy the text below into notepad:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTMIMEDatabaseContent Typeapplication/x-vmware-console] "Extension"=".xvm" ....
when I try and download my Lexmark X1240 it will go all the way to the end of the download and just at the end it says my windows interface stop working and has stopped the program. so my l printer will not work.
I play Online game Lineage2. For some reason a few days ago something started to happen with the interface of gaming windows. If I open a few windows the picture starts to go into the lag mode. And this is without even log in the game, just interface. I got Vista Ultimate 64, and I could open up to 10 windows of that game and be online in all of them at the same time, to just few days ago. I dont know what happen. May be something with ram, or CPU, or something else? Unfortunately I am not very klever will all the technical sides of the computer. I do know things, but not as much as you professionals.
HP Desktop (1 year old) Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1. Had AVG 7.5 for about six months (with email scan disabled). AVG offerred Version 8 and I allowed it to download and install. Big mistake!! Gave me nothing but trouble. When I tried to uninstall it, I realized it wasn't listed in Install/Uninstall. But I saw that AVG had an Uninstall as part of their program....so I used it. (My second mistake!)
Now, whenever I start up.....a window appears: "AVG Anti-Virus System. Could not initialize AVG Anti-Virus kernel interface." How can I get rid of this window? It doesn't cause trouble...but I hate seeing it everytime I start the computer. As you can guess...I'm not a Guru...just a user..so please try to keep it simple...if possible.
Data Protection is a counterfeit application which pretends to be a legitimate security tool. It is also from the same rogue family as Digital Protection, Your Protection, User Protection, Dr. Guard and Paladin Antivirus. The trojan based software starts its activities as soon as it installs onto your computer. Malware has no ability to detect and terminate the parasite. It only gains that user lose their vigilance and would buy a registered version of Data Protection application.
This is a fraud and dangerous for your computer. Behind an offer stands bad people who will use your money for malicious intentions. This application is not worth spending your money. As any malware this one will scan your computer automatically and will show fake results. You should ignore it. Do not fall for this blatant scam. Data Protection can also redirect your web browser to deceptive web pages that advertises “full” version of the security tool. Do not buy it, but choose decent anti-spyware application and terminate Data Protection upon detection. - the conclusion is that Malware bytes does remove it,, you need to download the lastest malware byte or update the one you got. Microsoft has released new Language Interface Packs for Windows Vista. The LIPs can be applied to all Vista editions as long as the parent language is supported. These language packs are not Ultimate extras. Some restrictions apply to Vista Starter. Also, new LIPs have been released for the Office 2007 products.
I want to buy notebook but I rather confused to decide whether to take the Vista Home Premium or the Ultimate. I live in Japan but I only understand a little Japanese so I also want to have my Windows in English either. Is it enough only using Vista Home Premium and install the Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP) on it?
Or I have to purchase the Ultimate and install the Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) on it? I don't know anything about Vista, so I cannot guess what this feature is for. Unlike XP. So I really need it in both English and Japanese. The Japanese, I need it for some parts of my job. The prices is quite high for the Vista Ultimate so if it is possible, I will not upgrade to Ultimate.
is there a way to influence the automatic metrics algorithm (interfaces and per IP) in some way? Influence in the sense of manipulate. This problem also covers following posts: "multiple NICs; automatic metrics" "Two NICs with identical gateway metric" Very often there are several default routes but with different metrics. In most cases automatic metrics algorithm works fine, but there should be a better way to switch the "Default Gateway" other than setting manual metrics for each belonging Adapter (and IP). There SEEMS TO BE a promising way to control automatic metrics assignment. There is a control panel dialog: "Control Panel -> Network Connections"
If you click ALT key on your keyboard here, and then selects menu "Advacned -> Advanced Settings..." a dialog is opened where you can change the order of Connections in the "Adapter and Bindings" tab. No one knows the purpose of changing the order here, but I expected to influence the automatic metrics assignment which would make sense. But changing this order will NOT change any metrics. Is this a bug in Windows Vista or does this order have another purpose? Is there a way to change this automatic metrics assignment in some way? Are there some information (released by Microsoft) that shows the algorithm for automatic metrics assignment? I need this information because I'm currently developing a small Windows tool to simplify the "Default Gateway" selection. My current tool still lacks of some features and don't work as expected.
I use Windows mail for past few weeks. Suddenly the interface has changed. I can no longer (on the left side) see the list of folders (inbox, outbox, sent, etc). How to get it back? Vista.
Following some of your threads and digging more, I have now conquered my problem. The issue was USB wireless interface would not work after waking from S3. I was able to restore functionality by disabling the device and re-enabling (key part of diagnosis). That was a pain, and certainly not something I want to tolerate over time.
This problem is nicely discussed A USB device may no longer work correctly after Windows Vista resumes from sleep or from hibernation I know MS gets blamed for lots of PC issues which sometimes are BIOS, 3rd party drivers, and unresolved PC architecture issues. This work around forces an HCI reset after sleep/hibernation, much like how removing and replacing a notebook to a docking station would do. I expect this will evolve over time with more use of S3. New drivers, hotfixes, maybe BIOS... but for now this brute force workaround works and makes total sense.
I currently own a audio input interface called MobilePre USB. I have recently purchased a computer with Windows Vista which (I think) is using service pack one (not sure how to check this!). The audio interface has been causing my computer to crash (blue screen) and having contacted the company they have told me that the hardware is not supported by Vista service pack one. They did say though that I can "roll-back" my system which would cure the problem. I am unsure about how to do this or whether this is safe to do.
I keep getting the following error when I try to print. Job Status Window Interface has stopped Working. I called Lexmark and they said it was a windows problem. Has anybody had this problem? Is there a fix for it?
My vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Also, it only detects 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of RAM I have in my system. PC Spec:
Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Once again Go figure!! Running Vista Business 32bit here in the good old USA and of course the English versionVista is and has always been updated right on schedule....
let me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........
