Does Bitlocker Work Without A TPM Module Or USB Flash Drive?
Mar 23, 2008I am about to purchase a Dell M1330, which doesnt offer a TPM module. I also don't want to deal with plugging in a USB Flash drive every time I boot up (which could get stolen with a laptop). I have the following questions regarding Bitlocker
1 Can I still use the Bitlocker feature of Windows Vista with a TPM module or USB flash drive? 2 Are there any articles that document how secure Bitlocker is in keeping your data safe if your laptop is stolen? 3 If for some reason that operating system gets corrupt, is there a way to extract my data off of the hard drive if I have the encryption keys?
Module Could Not Be Found
Aug 16, 2009I downloaded a dll (Ssubtmr6.dll), placed the file in the C:WindowsSystem32 folder and then using the Run dialog, entered the command Regsvr32 "C:WindowsSystem32Ssubtmr6.dll" to register it. I get an error message stating the module failed to load and including the text "Module could not be found". I had no problem installing this on an XP machine. I'm running Vista Home Premium (64 bit) with Service Pack 1.

Windows Module Installer Service Is Gone...
Dec 9, 2008I've been looking around forums for months now, trying to get rid of the Windows Update error code 80070424. I've read countless messages talking about solutions and tried them all. UNTIL I noticed today that the Windows Module Installer isn't listed in my services! I remember that annoying TrustedInstaller.exe running on my comp since I installed Vista, but it's gone, didn't noticed till today.
I'm not really a windows novice, but I just don't get it... how can it be just gone like that? I repeat, it is not diabled or wahtsoever, IT IS MISSING FROM THE SERVICE LIST. is there a way to reinstall the Windows Module Insdtaller, aka TrustedInstaller.exe? Because im pretty sure it's messing with my updates
.mbx Files: Couldnt Get Them Into XP OE
Nov 18, 2009my vista laptop crashed and i have some very important emails on it. I have its hard drive connected to my pc via a usb cradle and can access it ok. i have recovered all the email and they are .mbx files. couldnt get them into XP OE so I installed vista because i thought it would be compatible.

Mar 3, 2009im not sure if anybodys gonna know what im talking about because im a swedish vista-user and therefore using a swedish usb-modem. i know nothing about computers so i dont know if a modem called huwaei E220 is known outside of sweden. anyway, thats the name of the modem im trying to get to work on my vista laptop. ive called telia (my internet provider) support and ive done everything theyve told me to do. i upgraded the modem accordingly, yet im still experiencing problems. the modem works on my stationary comp, and always has, but when i try to get it to work on my vista laptop it does not. before i upgraded it didnt even recognize that something had been attatched, but now every time i put the usb in it starts to install the proper programs but then after a few seconds it says that the installation failed. it tells me data interface couldnt be installed, and also another program - huwaei modem 'something something' (i dont remember). and i click on 'retry' but no luck. it says i should put my disc for data interface in.. but i dont have one. gee wiz, i dont even know what data interface is.

Jun 22, 2009I'm on my pc playing games and being bored everything fine and whatever. Got tired so I shut my pc off and then went to bed, ect. Got up in the morning turned my pc on and said it couldnt find a bootable disk or w/e it says when it finds no OS. (what ever happened also killed my Win7x64 on my other HDD)
I have 2 Seagate 500GB HDD each with a 32MB Cache. So what I did was formatted the win7 hdd and instead of x64 went x32 and got win7 back on. Now I was thinking that the HDD was completely dead and couldnt have anything done with it until today a friend of mine told me he had something similar happen and then his dad put some program on his computer and it fixed everything. Now if this is the case for me then I really would love to get this sorted out because this HDD has all my data from work on different things over the last 2 years and none of it is backed up.
Oh and the HDD that died has windows Vista Basicx32 on it. So basically I need to know if there is a possiblity that my HDD isn't dead and I can revive it and still use it. And if I can then how would I go about doing this?

Jul 11, 2009My daughter bought a computer several years ago made by HP that runs Vista Home edition 32 bit we upgraded the video card and power supply when she bought it. Went with NVidia GeForce 3500 at the time pretty decent card we thought. Well now shes had some issues that forced her to restore the system and we couldnt find the install info for the card. Went to NVidia's website and downloaded drivers now the computer wont boot up. We keep getting a blue screen that says windows encountered a problem. I cant remember if the system came with a card that wasnt cutting it or if there was integrated graphics on the motherboard. So when we experienced the problem booting after installing drivers for the card I went into setup and changed the video to onboard graphics now we get nothing at bootup and monitor keeps going to sleep.

Jun 6, 2008I have a problem trying to Map an XP drive on my Vista Home Basic Laptop that is proving a nightmare: We have several computers on our netwrok, including the XP server itself where we have our shared documents. (place where all shared files go that we want other users to see) I have mapped the same shared docs folder accross all of out XP machines. Plugged my Vista Home Basic Laptop into our network, couldnt map the shared docs folder on my server. After reading many how to's, i followed this guide: Microsoft Corporation I have downloaded and installed the LLTD responder on the server with XP All computers were restarted, now when looking on the laptops "Veiw full map" I can see FILE_STORAGE (our server) but the guide above says right click on the computer running XP, however when I do this nothing happens, it is a solid icon and clicking it does nothing.
All computers including the laptop are on the same workgroup The laptop has appeared when looking on the XP machine under viewing the network I have opened ports UDP: 137, 138, 1900 and TCP 21, 139, 445 2869 We have AVG Antivirus and Firewall on all machines including the laptop. AVG does not allow you to open ports, so the above ports were opened on my router. When I plugged the laptop into the network AVG asked me to select a profile, I selected ALLOW ALL for the time being as "Computer In Domain" was not there to select. The vista laptop has Network Disc. ON, File Sharing ON, Public Folder Sharing ON and Printer Sharing ON One thing I couldnt get my head round was the differance between Workgroup and Network. The workgroup is the same on all computers, but I wasnt aware that I had ever given a "Network" name on any of the XP machine. Vista did ask for a "Network" name. For safety i put the same name as is in the workgroup. Anyone any ideas, im desperate?
Crash: Blue Screen, Couldnt Read Everything Fast Enough

I was on line reading news when my system gave me a blue screen, couldnt read everything fast enough... something to the fact it shut down to protect windows.....it was a full screen of dialogthen restarted. Sep 15, 2009I have almost completed a transfer of everything from my old XP computer to my new Vista (Dell p6110-Vista64-640HDD-Intel dual core). I am certainly not a power user but when Easy Transfer did not work I was able to move most of my old files to the Vista computer by hand.
I had to copy and paste most of the data, but I realized that I could not transfer programs (expecially Office; Word, Excel etc.). So I did an clean install of Office Student 2007 in the new computer. The install was completed with no errors, but I am getting an error message in Word and cannot always save the files. I am using the old XP files and starting new files. This seems to only happen in Word.
I get the following error message: "Compile error in hidden module AZWizard Modul"
I have tried to reinstall Office but nothing changed.

The result is a red X and the following message: The module "wbemupgd.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug to check for problems with the binary. So I searched my hard drive and it seems that "wbemupgd.dll" has gone missing. Any idea where I could get this .dll and why it might have gone missing?

Jun 5, 2008For the SonicStage the OpenMG Module Box comes up and says,"OpenMG Module" then it freezes up. Before that, it would freeze up when Windows would try to configure it. The Install Wizard comes up and I try to cancel and it freezes up. "The Feature you are trying to use is on a network source that is unavailable." I click cancel and it freeze up. Or click to enter an alternate path to the folder containing the installation package opening secure module.msi. Again, freezes up. As I was turning off my computer, even though I could not close out the Sonic Stage trying to install itself, I got the message, "Windows Installer service is not correctly installed." Should I just delete SonicStage?

Jul 1, 2008I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).

1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
RAM Won`t Work Like It Did
Sep 3, 2008Well, my Memory RAM doesn`t work like it used to.
Later on, my Memory RAM Score was like 5,9 on RAM and now it is 4,8 after i formatted my computer. I`m sometimes experiencing some slowdowns, like i type a entire word, and after 3 seconds it shows up. Or i scroll down, and after like 4 , 5 seconds the page shows up.
OBS: The Paging file is managed by the System ( I Used to let it on 4 mb )

Nov 26, 2008i plugged a usb flash drive into my front usb. (now does not work on any pc) when i plugged it in first time a message came up saying error could not read what was inserted etc. My front USB's appear to know something is going in sometimes and then other times don't. it read a webcam being connected. but when i tried an external hard drive i got a similar problem as with my usb flash drive. luckily that still works on my old pc though. back usb ports seem to be doing similar weird behaviour. P.S mouse and keyboard both work fine.
