HP Desktop (1 year old) Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1. Had AVG 7.5 for about six months (with email scan disabled). AVG offerred Version 8 and I allowed it to download and install. Big mistake!! Gave me nothing but trouble. When I tried to uninstall it, I realized it wasn't listed in Install/Uninstall. But I saw that AVG had an Uninstall as part of their program....so I used it. (My second mistake!)
Now, whenever I start up.....a window appears: "AVG Anti-Virus System. Could not initialize AVG Anti-Virus kernel interface." How can I get rid of this window? It doesn't cause trouble...but I hate seeing it everytime I start the computer. As you can guess...I'm not a Guru...just a user..so please try to keep it simple...if possible.
I've had a HP notebook using "windows vista home premium" and I believe is a 32 bit. last night I got a blue screen error saying there was a problem with the "kernel memory dump" and this is the second time this happened, what that message means... Im scared and I just want to take care of it before something goes bad.
I really need some ideas to fix my computer. When i turn computer on i get windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt, so ive put in my restore discs, and no luck there also. Been working on it for 5 days now and no luck. will not load in any of the safemodes.
Windows XP, there was a registry setting that when set prevented the Kernel from being paged out to the swapfile. I don't remember what this specific key was, but does anybody know of a similar setting for Vista x64?
I have the Home Premium edition and recently I received the following error:
File: WindowsSystem32tkrnlpa.exe
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: Windows Failed To Load Because The Kernel Is Missing, Or Corrupt
It tells me to insert my installation disc and restart your computer however when I do that I go right back to the previous screen which I just described. I already changed the boot order to boot from the DVD drive first however it continues to skip this screen and keeps looping to the same screen. Does anyone know another way to load my disc so I can continue with the repair?.
"I think the most disappointing thing for me is that part of me wants to like Vista, because there are a lot of interesting APIs and kernel features that really do improve system performance and make it easier to write for Windows" Many of them even work on older computers, and I doubt these features are why Vista is bloated. That is why I suggested trimming down Vista once.
Do you use the web-based VMWare Management Interface to control your ESX server and have problems opening virtual machines in IE7? Many user have reported that instead of getting the open prompt in IE7 they get a find option instead. To fix this, you need to define the application/x-vmware-console MIME type so IE7 allows you to open the file.
Open up notepad.
Copy the text below into notepad:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTMIMEDatabaseContent Typeapplication/x-vmware-console] "Extension"=".xvm" ....
when I try and download my Lexmark X1240 it will go all the way to the end of the download and just at the end it says my windows interface stop working and has stopped the program. so my l printer will not work.
I play Online game Lineage2. For some reason a few days ago something started to happen with the interface of gaming windows. If I open a few windows the picture starts to go into the lag mode. And this is without even log in the game, just interface. I got Vista Ultimate 64, and I could open up to 10 windows of that game and be online in all of them at the same time, to just few days ago. I dont know what happen. May be something with ram, or CPU, or something else? Unfortunately I am not very klever will all the technical sides of the computer. I do know things, but not as much as you professionals.
Where is the tab/command to initialize (fdisk?) a new HDD?
I am logged in as Administrator (system says so) with full control/permission.
I can see the hard drives in the Device Manager/Disk Drives. All drives are "good" per the controller and I can see them as physical devices on the computer.
They all show as "Not Initialized" when I ask each to opopulate the Volumes info, and there is no obvious/apparent way to do it. Nothing on the controller shows it either.
Tried "Simple New Volume" under Disk Management--
doesn't/won't work because drive is not initialized.
I recently got Halo 2,and before I had I had ran a test and it said I met the minimum requirements. When I tried to install it however, it would change my resolution to 800 x 600, the display the message-(Initialization failed.Either insufficient system resources were found to run the game or game data is missing or damaged.Reinstalling the game may fix this problem. When I also try to customize game install,it tells me-Installation cannot be customized after game installation is initialized. I looked at some other threads and tried to update my graphics driver, but it said I had a custom driver installed and trying to install another driver may damage it.
I've looked over whole internet, and I am very surprised to be unable to find any answers to this. I am setting up Windows Dynamic Striped (RAID0) or Spanned volume (GPT) over four SATA hard drives 1Tb each. Everything is successful. I format the drive, copy stuff on to it, read it back, its fast, very nice. Then I reboot. After boot up I foind out that my D: drive is gone, i.e., volume is offline (as reported by Disk Manager). I can boot as I am using separate (IDE or SATA) hard drive to boot the Vista from. Now, if I configure the striped volume to be less then 2Tb (e.g., stripe two 1Tb disks or four x 500Mb partition each), everything works fine. I reboot and the volume is still there running happily. No windows event log I can find corresponds to this problem.......
im not sure if anybodys gonna know what im talking about because im a swedish vista-user and therefore using a swedish usb-modem. i know nothing about computers so i dont know if a modem called huwaei E220 is known outside of sweden. anyway, thats the name of the modem im trying to get to work on my vista laptop. ive called telia (my internet provider) support and ive done everything theyve told me to do. i upgraded the modem accordingly, yet im still experiencing problems. the modem works on my stationary comp, and always has, but when i try to get it to work on my vista laptop it does not. before i upgraded it didnt even recognize that something had been attatched, but now every time i put the usb in it starts to install the proper programs but then after a few seconds it says that the installation failed. it tells me data interface couldnt be installed, and also another program - huwaei modem 'something something' (i dont remember). and i click on 'retry' but no luck. it says i should put my disc for data interface in.. but i dont have one. gee wiz, i dont even know what data interface is.
Microsoft has released new Language Interface Packs for Windows Vista. The LIPs can be applied to all Vista editions as long as the parent language is supported. These language packs are not Ultimate extras. Some restrictions apply to Vista Starter. Also, new LIPs have been released for the Office 2007 products.
I'm trying to play Age of Empires II in my bro's netbook, but I get an odd message "Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw". Though, I've been searching, and it seems that it's not really an odd problem, looks quite popular. I even read some threads on this forum, but none of them had solutions that were still available.
I'm trying to install either Firefox or Flock and I get the following error: Quote: Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features. I click "OK" and the program does open with, as it says, incorrect behaviour.
When attempting to install Tax Cut State program a message comes up "TaxCutAZ.exe" application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000005) The program then terminates. Still can not get the program to load.
I want to buy notebook but I rather confused to decide whether to take the Vista Home Premium or the Ultimate. I live in Japan but I only understand a little Japanese so I also want to have my Windows in English either. Is it enough only using Vista Home Premium and install the Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP) on it?
Or I have to purchase the Ultimate and install the Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) on it? I don't know anything about Vista, so I cannot guess what this feature is for. Unlike XP. So I really need it in both English and Japanese. The Japanese, I need it for some parts of my job. The prices is quite high for the Vista Ultimate so if it is possible, I will not upgrade to Ultimate.
is there a way to influence the automatic metrics algorithm (interfaces and per IP) in some way? Influence in the sense of manipulate. This problem also covers following posts: "multiple NICs; automatic metrics" "Two NICs with identical gateway metric" Very often there are several default routes but with different metrics. In most cases automatic metrics algorithm works fine, but there should be a better way to switch the "Default Gateway" other than setting manual metrics for each belonging Adapter (and IP). There SEEMS TO BE a promising way to control automatic metrics assignment. There is a control panel dialog: "Control Panel -> Network Connections"
If you click ALT key on your keyboard here, and then selects menu "Advacned -> Advanced Settings..." a dialog is opened where you can change the order of Connections in the "Adapter and Bindings" tab. No one knows the purpose of changing the order here, but I expected to influence the automatic metrics assignment which would make sense. But changing this order will NOT change any metrics. Is this a bug in Windows Vista or does this order have another purpose? Is there a way to change this automatic metrics assignment in some way? Are there some information (released by Microsoft) that shows the algorithm for automatic metrics assignment? I need this information because I'm currently developing a small Windows tool to simplify the "Default Gateway" selection. My current tool still lacks of some features and don't work as expected.
I use Windows mail for past few weeks. Suddenly the interface has changed. I can no longer (on the left side) see the list of folders (inbox, outbox, sent, etc). How to get it back? Vista.
Following some of your threads and digging more, I have now conquered my problem. The issue was USB wireless interface would not work after waking from S3. I was able to restore functionality by disabling the device and re-enabling (key part of diagnosis). That was a pain, and certainly not something I want to tolerate over time.
This problem is nicely discussed A USB device may no longer work correctly after Windows Vista resumes from sleep or from hibernation I know MS gets blamed for lots of PC issues which sometimes are BIOS, 3rd party drivers, and unresolved PC architecture issues. This work around forces an HCI reset after sleep/hibernation, much like how removing and replacing a notebook to a docking station would do. I expect this will evolve over time with more use of S3. New drivers, hotfixes, maybe BIOS... but for now this brute force workaround works and makes total sense.
I have a HP Mefia Center that came with XP preloaded and I made recovery disks. They also offered Vista free. I got the Vista and it came with "Upgrade Assistant" I ignored the assistant expecting it was more PR crap. I installed the Vista and it worked ok but I saw that XP was better. The installation did not give any option other than "clean install". After trying to install an old program that failed I started have problems with failed initializing programs including IE7. I was getting data execution prevention errors. On startup I get; Application failed to initialize 0x00000005. A problem caused program to stop working.
Cannot open any *.exe files to include browsers. I have tried to do a system restore, but did not help. I have also tried everything in safe mode with no luck. I have tried to run hijackthis, but it won't run either.
i have tried everything said in this thread & i still cant initialize the HDD. i get this error:- This request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. i really need to get access to my drive as it has important files i really need
I receive the following message when I have logged on to my computer: Windows Defender "Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this service to stop." I have looked at Help and Support but have not found anything to identify what the problem is. I run Vista Home Premium 64 Bit OS.
