I'm trying to play Age of Empires II in my bro's netbook, but I get an odd message "Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw". Though, I've been searching, and it seems that it's not really an odd problem, looks quite popular. I even read some threads on this forum, but none of them had solutions that were still available.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy GeForce 9800 GTX is no longer recognized by my computer. As a result it doesn't recognize my monitor specifics either. When I look under Device Manager it doesn't have a listing for display adapters at all. There is a new entry under "Other devices" labeled "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". When I reboot or "scan for new hardware" it trys to download drivers but fails. When I try to manually update the driver I get a message:

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+
The system cannot find the filed specified."
I've tried everything including updating my BIOS, updating my mainboard drivers, downloading current WQHL certified graphics drivers, uninstalling any and all drivers related to NVIDIA, etc with no luck. I have a feeling there is something simple that I'm not doing but I have no idea what it is.I can't play any games because the system "Failed to find a suitable display device. Exiting program."
I recently re-installed vista home premium back on my vaio vgn-fz17g laptop after the system crashed and i noticed a few problems. 1. the computer wont read an sd card. 2. the computer does not recognise my graphics card. 3.i have an unknown device on my device manager. 4. my "UGX"? has no drivers (and none can be found) 4. my base score used to be 4.0 today i installed another gb of ram and i checked my base score and instead of going up it went down to 1.0 i cant even use aero anymore. the base score is where i realised my graphics card disappeared all that shows up in device manager is standard vga graphics adapter when i have a 512mb graphics card somewhere inside.
View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen I installed an 8500GT Nvidia graphics card. The system would run for a little then completly lock up. All I would be left with was an EventID: 6008 in the Event Viewer once I reset. Once I remove the 8500GT and run on the onboard 3200HD drivers all is well. Nothing locks up the system responds fine. I dont think the system is infected with anything as this is a fresh install on a fresh hard drive. Previously the system ran with XP on a different hard drive (120gb, the 320 was storage) and had no trouble with lockups. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Originally, I thought it might be power supply--but after trying a 430watt nothign changed.

When I try to run a game, using 'steam' it tries to install directx before failing, so I found the download myself and tried, it failed. The error said: 'INTERNAL SYSTEM ERROR OCCURRED refer to DxError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem.' So what any ideas, I need directx but I cant have directx. Wasnt sure if this post should go in here, gaming or graphics card. I figured here as its more a software issue.

My graphics are so bad that i can't play simple games and i know that my graphics card used to work perfectly. I just need to know if it is vista that has changed my graphics card and if it did how can i fix it. Also for Hardware Acceleration, i can not turn it on because i do not have the troubleshoot option in my display settings. My nero will not burn any dvd disc's due to that.

Where is the tab/command to initialize (fdisk?) a new HDD?
I am logged in as Administrator (system says so) with full control/permission.
I can see the hard drives in the Device Manager/Disk Drives. All drives are "good" per the controller and I can see them as physical devices on the computer.
They all show as "Not Initialized" when I ask each to opopulate the Volumes info, and there is no obvious/apparent way to do it. Nothing on the controller shows it either.
Tried "Simple New Volume" under Disk Management--
doesn't/won't work because drive is not initialized.
One drive = one big partition = one drive letter.
I recently got Halo 2,and before I had I had ran a test and it said I met the minimum requirements. When I tried to install it however, it would change my resolution to 800 x 600, the display the message-(Initialization failed.Either insufficient system resources were found to run the game or game data is missing or damaged.Reinstalling the game may fix this problem. When I also try to customize game install,it tells me-Installation cannot be customized after game installation is initialized. I looked at some other threads and tried to update my graphics driver,but it said I had a custom driver installed and trying to install another driver may damage it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHP Desktop (1 year old) Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1. Had AVG 7.5 for about six months (with email scan disabled). AVG offerred Version 8 and I allowed it to download and install. Big mistake!! Gave me nothing but trouble. When I tried to uninstall it, I realized it wasn't listed in Install/Uninstall. But I saw that AVG had an Uninstall as part of their program....so I used it. (My second mistake!)
Now, whenever I start up.....a window appears: "AVG Anti-Virus System. Could not initialize AVG Anti-Virus kernel interface." How can I get rid of this window? It doesn't cause trouble...but I hate seeing it everytime I start the computer. As you can guess...I'm not a Guru...just a user..so please try to keep it simple...if possible.

I can boot as I am using separate (IDE or SATA) hard drive to boot the Vista from. Now, if I configure the striped volume to be less then 2Tb (e.g., stripe two 1Tb disks or four x 500Mb partition each), everything works fine. I reboot and the volume is still there running happily. No windows event log I can find corresponds to this problem.......

I got the Vista and it came with "Upgrade Assistant" I ignored the assistant expecting it was more PR crap. I installed the Vista and it worked ok but I saw that XP was better. The installation did not give any option other than "clean install". After trying to install an old program that failed I started have problems with failed initializing programs including IE7. I was getting data execution prevention errors. On startup I get; Application failed to initialize 0x00000005. A problem caused program to stop working.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy daughter suddenly experiences: Windows Defender: "Error Code 0x800106ba Application failed to initialize" This is a fairly new machine (running Vista Home Premium) and it was delivered with McAfee virus protection installed. The initial McAfee license is about to expire so she renewed that license for a permanent licence today. There may of course be a connection here, but I fail to see what that connection could be.
She was guided to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931849 which suggests to initially remove (uninstall) Windows Defender and then reinstall it. The only problem with this is that Windows Defender is not included in the list of installed programs that can be uninstalled, and when she tries to "reinstall" it Windows Defender is reported as already present on the system. I checked on my own system where Windows Defender is running without any problem, and the same applies here: Windows Defender is not listed among installed programs.
I received this after my computer locked up when trying to open up windows Mail "Windows Mail could not be started, initialize junk filtering. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. I've tried turning down the resolution and what is said in the error message.

I have a problem with every game I try to play. The main menu and opening credits are always fine. When I enter into game play it looks like im playing the Atari or something. Everything is pixelated and blocky, some shapes wont render and game play is very skippy. I dont have the BEST graphics card but it still shouldn't look the way it is. I have an ATI Radeon x1200.
