I have a problem with my Vista Home Premium that I think is somehow connected to Vista`s Windows Mail. In my documents folder and on my desktop, 4 things show up that when I delete them to the recycle bin and empty the bin, they show up again the next time I go into Windows Mail. They are labled edb.chk, edb.log, edbres00001.jrs and edbres00002.jrs. Any recommendations on what they are and how to get rid of them?
View 9 RepliesMy main mail client is my office XP system, I also receive mail in home. So I select the 'Leave mail on Server' in my home XP system and it work fine. But after I upgrade my home PC to Vista system (I export my mail account for XP outlook express then inport it to my Vista system.) then it have problem - when the mail that I received in home Vista system Windows Mail then i no longer can receive in office mail client. Does anyone know is it the bug of Vista Windows Mail?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop running Vista, my desktop is running XP, i want to be able to access files and the printer which is connected to the Xp machine on my vista laptop, but they cannot see each other. I have the file and printer sharing stuff turned on on the laptop. Also I am running AVG on both systems and I have the Windows firewall enabled on both. Both are connected to a D-link router, DESktop is wired, laptop is wireless. Also a friend of mine came over and has the same laptop as me except he is running XP on his and he had no problem seeing my desktop, or accessing its files.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI do not have Vista, or Windows Mail, or Hotmail, so I'm flying a bit blind here. I have an acquaintance who has Vista, but does all her emailing via Hotmail. Recently, she has had some problems with the Hotmail service, and she has asked me if it is possible for her to change to the mail program that comes with Vista. (Windows Mail?) The snag is, she would like to import the contents of of all her web-based Hotmail folders, (her email messages in other words), and her Hotmail contacts into whatever email program she changes to.
1. Would this be possible with Windows Mail, or does she need to write off all her Hotmail stuff and start again from scratch?
2. If it is not possible with Windows Mail, is it possible with any other email client, such as Thunderbird or similar?
When connected to a pptp VPN resources on the local domain are inconsistantly available. Previously with XP they were always available even if connected to a VPN. What has changed?
Printing:
From win 7, I can print to a Lan printer shared on the server (2008) Once connected to a remote VPN (windows 2003 pptp), the print que says "Accessed Denied" when trying to print to the same printer. With XP printing was still possible to the Lan even though connected to a VPN.
Mapped Drives:
Sometime they work, sometimes they don't. If I have a mapped drive to a local file server once connected to the VPN I can't list the contents of drive, or access any of the files.Other times even with a VPN connected I can acess the files. If you access the drive before opening the VPN this seems to help. I thought it may be a DNS issue but I have added the server to my hosts file. The host name resolves correctly even after an "ipconfig /flushdns".
Does windows 7 need to resolve service records on the local AD dns server before passing on credentials? The order of accessing DNS servers is the remote VPN DNS server first and then the local DNS server second. Is this why I can always print to a local printer that I installed using its IP address, whilst connected to a VPN, which then prompted me for credentials. I assume the credentials were stored locally, making them always available no matter what the order of DNS servers were.
Once connected to a VPN why can't Vista/Win7 always print/access local resources?
Connected to the same VPNs XP could always access local recources.
How do I remove Windows Vista, so that I can make a clean install of Windows 7. Does the removal of Windows Vista also removes Windows Mail and IT8? Do I have anything (Antivirus or other software) at all left on the PC after removal of the Windows?

We found this out by testing and sending a test mail to our gmail account and it was never received allthough it was in the sent items in Windows Mail. We also sent the same mail from my old computer (outlook Express) it was received correct by gmail.

Attachment is E013982279S15.pdf Winmail creates a file in the temporary location. Winmail the calls C:Program FilesDefenderMpOAV.dll. Winmail then apparently deletes the file. how to prevent the call to Defender? My other Vista computer doesn't do this. I installed IE8 and reverted back to IE7 in an attempt to fix this issue.

Now at home I can’t connect to my router, and I get a message saying that the details held on the computer is not the same as the router. Also there is no “customise” function being shown on the network and sharing centre screen to switch back to private network. I’ve tried everything to set up a connection, even a new one, but the same message appears all the time.

I have followed the help instructions as I wanted to change the font to another style, colour etc. However 'Help' tells you to format your signature in a WP package and save in html format. Easy, I thought! In Word 2007 when you try to Save As - the html option si not in the drop down menu. so i tried in Wordpad, no luck ther either. how I save to html in vista? I had no problems in W.XP. Wish I had not had to change!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've moved from Outlook Express on my XP desktop to Windows mail on my Vista laptop. I plan on moving to Outlook on both computers, but not until I get this folder thing straightened out. I was able to import my OE mail into Windows Mail ok. Then I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. I had backed up my mail files and I was able to restore my Windows Mail ok.
I had several "Recovered Folders", but they included everything. I moved all of my folders out of the recovered folders and placed them once more under the Inbox. Then I deleted the empty recovered folders.
Now I want to backup my mail, not using the Vista backup, but with a third party. So when I go into my Windows Mail folder in Windows Explorer, I find all of the "recovered folders" are still there. Now they're listed as Local Folders. I can't find the configuration of my folders as I see them in Windows mail at all. I have a "Backup" folder with a "new" folder inside of it with a windows file that is unopenable.
I'm getting the following error message when Windows Mail (Vista 64 Home Premium SP1) tries to send e-mails from my laptop: The connection to the server has failed. Subject ..., Account: 'verizon.net', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E. Downloading incoming mail is not a problem, and I obviously can post to newsgroups. Although this is a new problem, I turned off Norton's checking of outgoing mail - no change. Verizon had us change to Port 587 last year so that's not the issue either. WM does send e-mail from my desktop so apparently the problem is specific to the laptop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up Mail on my wife's new Vista machine and have run into a couple snags. First, it appears that Mail does not support TLS, only SSL. But AFAIK, SSL for mail transport has been deprecated for many years already. Is there any way to use TLS with Mail? On a related issue, my sendmail server does not support SSL transport (since its been deprecated, etc.) so in order to send mail using the Mail software, I'm trying to use google's SMTP service, which does use SSL. I configure the server in Mail, tell it to use SSL on port 587, but when I try sending fails with a message about not being able to connect on port 25. Grr.
Finally, I use self-generated certificates on my mail server (uw-imap and sendmail, running on FreeBSD). Since the only users are my family I feel no need to pay a 3rd party certificate authority to get a certificate. But everytime Mail connects to the server it complains about the certificate not being signed by a recognized authority. Perhaps Mail doesn't recognize me as an authority, but I trust myself since I generated the certificate myself. How can I convince Mail to accept the certificate pemanently?
i just bought My Book Essential 1 TB today... and when i got home i plug it and it works just fine but its bothering me that the HDD type is FAT32 .. so i format it and try to change it to NTFS.. but somethings happen and boom the electric in my apartment was down... and so when the electric back i want to format it again but i can't... there drive is detected but with no space detail... it says "Windows can't format Drive H: - Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again.
For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them" when i open the Disk Management from (My COmputer > Manage) it seems it's already a volume.. but the weird thing there is no space detail.. and i cant erase the volume ... i've tried using diskpart but i can't do nothing because there is no volume and i can't erase the disk... no luck with fsutil cause its not ntfs... I havent tried 3rd party software and i havent tried it on other computer (don't have other computer right now) and WDC didnt give live cd for formatting because all of them was in the drive... though i already redownload it but the program is useless..
Running Vista on an HP...When I get the pop up to compact the mail I click OK and it gets about 3 quarters of the way thru and I get the message Windows Mail has stopped working and Windows is searching for an answer. The answer was DEP (Data Execution Protection)was shutting it down to protect my computer..What's the problem??? Norton internet Security up to date and nothing found with complete system scan..Vista up to date as well.

Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

All I seem to be getting is 137 headers or whatever there called.Tried unsubscribing, reset etc. Do newsgroups work like normal mail that once you've downloaded you need to keep a copy on the server or you won't get that message ever again I posted a message yesterday and had to online to the Microsoft online newsgroup and search for my post.
