View 4 Replies View RelatedBefore the computer actually came to the point of "shuting down just before it tried to load the o/s" it literrly kept shuting down on its own randomly for a week or so. Then the blue screen appeard with this error: 0x0000007BC , 0x84C5DBA0, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 "Run CHKDSK /F and check for Hard Drive Corruption and then restart your computer"
Basically it's telling me the DRIVE is corruptet! Well, I plugged that SATA 2 HDD into my other computer (windows xp), detected it correctly and actually formated the drive and reinstalled XP on it without any types of problem. Does it still mean - SATA 2 is corrupted or broken!? How about the RAM then ... indeed, I did run the MemTest for 7 times and no errors were found. So the RAM are ok in this case, or am I wrong?! Maybe it's the PSU... ermmm no that cannot be 'cos the computer never shuts down, if I leave it run for (e.g 5 hours) and even if it's comes to "overheating" that cannot be the case eather, as its *again" never shuts down when you leave it run on the power.........
I have just put a new ide dvd-rewriter into my computer and my computer doesn't recognize the new dvd drive or an existing cd drive. I cant see them in 'My Computer' or the 'device manager'. I don't no if this has anything to do with it but at the same time I also installed a new TV tuner into the computer and now I cant run the CD to fully install it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't account for around 200 gb of space on my computer. C folder is 450 gb I've been looking through my files and folders and I can only account for about 200-250 gb and I am almost out of space. I am trying to defrag my hard drive and I started compressing file folders which is saving some space but I am not sure if this should account for the entirety of the problem. I haven't downloaded anything in a while and still I've just watched 5 gb disappear in about a two week period of time. I've been deleting files and I have been clearing out the trash bin but it doesn't seem to be helping.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy DVD Drive Is Missing! I Tried Deleting Upper & Lower Filters But Lower Filters Wasn't There! Is There A Place I Can Download It?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a HP pavillion dv9700 notebook pc. It started about 3-4 days ago. I went to import some songs on a cd onto my iTunes, which is when I found out that my CD-ROM drive was missing, for how long, I do not know. It was just then that I had discovered it (not having put a disc in my computer for a good while). So, I went online to find some fixes to this problem. I tried the "delete 'upperfilter' and 'lowerfilter' " fix. Then rebooted the computer, however, I do not know if this is the trigger to what is yet to come. So the computer rebooted, and I then was able to find my CD/DVD-RW drive.
I uploaded my music. Later on, out of nowhere, I tried to turn my computer on, a day later maybe. This is what happened, it starts up really slow, then gets to the blank screen before startup and just sits for ever. Then I get a message saying "Operating System not found". I know what this means, I think, but I have no clue why I am getting it, what did i do wrong to cause it. Anyhow. This only occured a time or two, in which case I would shut the computer off, turn it back on, and it would bootup properly. I would say that it would mess up 3 times out of 10. So I DID save all the items i wanted to keep onto a jump drive, just incase......
I recently purchased a sanyo vaio laptop (model number NW 11SS) for myself and two e-machine latops (one for my husband and one for my parents) All was going well, all software was installed, Norton 360 installed was installed on all three laptops with no problems. However, a few weeks later I tried to install the Office student and home edition on all three laptops and found out that the dvd drive icon in the my computer window on all three laptops has been deleted and the discs wont be recognised. I searched on google for 'missing d drive' and found that it was a very common problem and one that microsoft are wel laware of. I found the microsoft repair which I followed to the letter on one laptop but it doesnt work! (Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs)
I've read that this error is caused by conflicting updates, but are they Norton updates or windows vista updates causing the problems? Should turn off updates completely, but if I do this, I will miss out on the updates that I need? I have now had to book for an IT engineer to come and try and sort out the problem at my own expense (£35 per hour with 3 laptops to sort out = a lot of money!) when this should be something that microsoft should be doing...isnt it?
Well after a few years I decided to restore my laptop back to the factory settings. So I backed up all my files onto a external hard drive. I put in the recovery disk, and restored it back to the original. Here is the problem, When I bought it new my C drive was 140 GB. Now my C drive is 26GB.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi had not used my dvd drive in a while (oh yea it's a hp dv6824) and the other day i tried to open it and it would open so i used a paper clip and opened closed it back . No response so i restarted the machine , my drive no longer appears in my computer or device manager, so after a few days of doing just about everything i could think of including restoring to factory state, nothing worked the drive would function while the machine booted but as it loaded vista it stoped functioning instantly.
i did the registry fix for the upper and lower fix (itunes issues) nothing still After getting throughly frustrated i removed the drive put it back and still nothing so i did a bios flash back to an older bios and magically it started working again then i went to sleep and so did the machine upon the machine resume it all disappeared again i tried the bios flash once more to no avail
Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.
My question is-
Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).
I have a new pc w/ vista, 2 sata hard drives. Everything was fine, then a
week later the slave drive disappeared. The BIOS recognizes the drive, but
Vista doesn't. I've seen enough threads on here w/ no resolution. System
restore is not an answer.
My dvd drive is no longer listed in start menu computer browser. I tried microsoft fixit to no avail. also tried to run sfc/scannow from elevated comand prompt and that will not run even in safe mode. what do I try next. I just got my pc back to normal from a vista reinstall so I would like to avoid that if possible.

View 6 Replies View Relatedthis is driving me crazy! I have now experienced this 3-4 times. It happens all of a sudden, and is scary. Some or most of my data suddenly disappears from my user folder (C:/users/username). First time it happened immediately after I installed Spyware Doctor, back in April, when they first released the x64 version. I have since restored all the data, and uninstalled Spyware Doctor. However, it happened again. The last two times, it just happened. I simply noticed that I had much more free space on my C drive (40GB more than the day before).
Last weekend, it mostly affected my photos, but other folders were missing also. I am running x64, on a HP machine with 6GB RAM. Luckaly, I perform multiple backups (TrueImage and Ghost), as well as Mozy. In each case I was able to restore all data, but it takes time, and more importantly, I don't trust my computer. I live in a fear - will my data be there tomorrow??? Or, has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Attempting a clean install Vista 32 full OS (not an upgrade) on the below rig. Previously loaded XP without trouble. Now the following message.
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or a USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."
I have tried loading XP again and Vista with the same message. Attempting to access the CD unsuccessful.
I have tried disconnecting the LG drive and using the Sony, same error message. LG has no drivers on site stated they are embedded in Vista...
I'm running a desktop system with Windows Vista Ultimate. I have encountered
a problem that I know is being experienced by other Vista users; I'm hoping
there is a workaround. I have an internal 1 TB Hitachi hard drive (not the C drive). This desktop system is only about six months old, and ever since I first acquired it I found that this internal hard drive would go missing after putting Vista into Sleep or Hibernation mode. Restarting the system would always enable Vista to recognize the internal 1 TB hard drive again.
However, about two weeks ago this temporary fix wasn't working anymore -- restarting Vista didn't enable the 1 TB internal drive to be recognized. It's been missing ever since. And yet this drive is working properly according to Device Manager (Including having the latest driver). Doing a Google search has produced a few other threads on the web where Vista users are also experiencing missing hard drives. Supposedly this situation is to be directly addressed by Microsoft with the release of Service Pack 1. Unfortunately, I need access to my internal hard drive now, not weeks from now when Service Pack 1 is finally released.
Just received a PC with Vista Business 64 bit and a 80 GB hard drive. I've downloaded Opera and surfed the internet. I've noticed that the total free memory is being reported as 45.3 GB. I've done some research and found this forum. I've checked vssadmin list shadows and it's reported as:
used shadow copy storage space: 3.576 GB
allocated shadow copy storage space: 3.82 GB
maximum shadow copy storage space: 10.882 GB
Where did the entire 27.2 GB go?
PC has problem displaying flash drive icons correctly in file open and file save dialog boxes. There are 4 flash drives (Compact Flash, SD, Memory Stick, and xD/SM). The 4 drives'icons display fine from Windows Explorer but all 4 drive icons are missing in File Open and File Save dialog boxes. The problem exists in every application's file open and file save that I checked so I'm thinking it's a problem with Vista and not with specific application.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAll drivers are up to date.. Nothing in the event viewer to indicate a problem. If I try to burn to the DVD or read from it, my machine shuts off. Not reset, full shut down. No viruses, no spyware/malware. I'm behind a NAT firewall with SPK and use the Windows Firewall and Avast so I'm pretty sure it's not something evil that has gotten on my machine. Googling doesn't reveal anything. Has anyone seen anything similar..Dell or not? I don't mind not having the DVD for burning because I have other machines that I can burn from, but if I can't read from the DVD drive without the machine shutting down, I may as well have a netbook.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I connect a USB drive (SATA, 120GB) to a Vista Home Premium system (SP1), and Computer is selected, the Computer window says [not responding], as does the Management Console. Only when the drive is turned off, do Computer and Management Console function properly. The Vista system is running on an HP slimline desktop with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor, running the 32-bit OS, and using a high speed USB 2.0 enclosure ( ECS-STU35) with the Vista's USB drivers. BTW, the same USB drive mounts and its contents are accessible when attached to an XP Pro (SP2) system.

While surfing last night I had noticed that when I looked at the defrag drive my computer said that it had last been defragged on Jan.of 2005. Do you find this (as I do) somewhat strange. I have contacted the store and the computer manufacturer. Does it seem like maybe they sold me a refurbished computer when I was supposed to have bought a new one. Just looking for an opinion.
