i had not used my dvd drive in a while (oh yea it's a hp dv6824) and the other day i tried to open it and it would open so i used a paper clip and opened closed it back . No response so i restarted the machine , my drive no longer appears in my computer or device manager, so after a few days of doing just about everything i could think of including restoring to factory state, nothing worked the drive would function while the machine booted but as it loaded vista it stoped functioning instantly.
i did the registry fix for the upper and lower fix (itunes issues) nothing still After getting throughly frustrated i removed the drive put it back and still nothing so i did a bios flash back to an older bios and magically it started working again then i went to sleep and so did the machine upon the machine resume it all disappeared again i tried the bios flash once more to no avail
I have a HP pavillion dv9700 notebook pc. It started about 3-4 days ago. I went to import some songs on a cd onto my iTunes, which is when I found out that my CD-ROM drive was missing, for how long, I do not know. It was just then that I had discovered it (not having put a disc in my computer for a good while). So, I went online to find some fixes to this problem. I tried the "delete 'upperfilter' and 'lowerfilter' " fix. Then rebooted the computer, however, I do not know if this is the trigger to what is yet to come. So the computer rebooted, and I then was able to find my CD/DVD-RW drive.
I uploaded my music. Later on, out of nowhere, I tried to turn my computer on, a day later maybe. This is what happened, it starts up really slow, then gets to the blank screen before startup and just sits for ever. Then I get a message saying "Operating System not found". I know what this means, I think, but I have no clue why I am getting it, what did i do wrong to cause it. Anyhow. This only occured a time or two, in which case I would shut the computer off, turn it back on, and it would bootup properly. I would say that it would mess up 3 times out of 10. So I DID save all the items i wanted to keep onto a jump drive, just incase......
I recently purchased a sanyo vaio laptop (model number NW 11SS) for myself and two e-machine latops (one for my husband and one for my parents) All was going well, all software was installed, Norton 360 installed was installed on all three laptops with no problems. However, a few weeks later I tried to install the Office student and home edition on all three laptops and found out that the dvd drive icon in the my computer window on all three laptops has been deleted and the discs wont be recognised. I searched on google for 'missing d drive' and found that it was a very common problem and one that microsoft are wel laware of. I found the microsoft repair which I followed to the letter on one laptop but it doesnt work! (Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs)
I've read that this error is caused by conflicting updates, but are they Norton updates or windows vista updates causing the problems? Should turn off updates completely, but if I do this, I will miss out on the updates that I need? I have now had to book for an IT engineer to come and try and sort out the problem at my own expense (£35 per hour with 3 laptops to sort out = a lot of money!) when this should be something that microsoft should be doing...isnt it?
Well after a few years I decided to restore my laptop back to the factory settings. So I backed up all my files onto a external hard drive. I put in the recovery disk, and restored it back to the original. Here is the problem, When I bought it new my C drive was 140 GB. Now my C drive is 26GB.
I have a new pc w/ vista, 2 sata hard drives. Everything was fine, then a week later the slave drive disappeared. The BIOS recognizes the drive, but Vista doesn't. I've seen enough threads on here w/ no resolution. System restore is not an answer.
My dvd drive is no longer listed in start menu computer browser. I tried microsoft fixit to no avail. also tried to run sfc/scannow from elevated comand prompt and that will not run even in safe mode. what do I try next. I just got my pc back to normal from a vista reinstall so I would like to avoid that if possible.
My computer won't boot. Bootmgr is missing and when I put in my Vista CD it does not give me an OS to choose from. What is wrong and what can I do. Maybe it's a bad Hard Drive?
The CD Rom drive passed out of existence from My Computer, with Vista Home Premium 32-Bit operating system installed in a emachines desktop PC. The error code is: This device cannot start. (Code 10). The driver version is: 6.0.6001.18000 I do not know what caused this problem. how to restore the CD Rom drive?
I recently got a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, and decided to install it on a second partition on my hard drive, which i did. It lasted for two weeks, until i attempted to boot up one day and the message, BOOTMGR is missing, appeared on the screen. How do i solve this problem, preferably without losing data.
this is driving me crazy! I have now experienced this 3-4 times. It happens all of a sudden, and is scary. Some or most of my data suddenly disappears from my user folder (C:/users/username). First time it happened immediately after I installed Spyware Doctor, back in April, when they first released the x64 version. I have since restored all the data, and uninstalled Spyware Doctor. However, it happened again. The last two times, it just happened. I simply noticed that I had much more free space on my C drive (40GB more than the day before).
Last weekend, it mostly affected my photos, but other folders were missing also. I am running x64, on a HP machine with 6GB RAM. Luckaly, I perform multiple backups (TrueImage and Ghost), as well as Mozy. In each case I was able to restore all data, but it takes time, and more importantly, I don't trust my computer. I live in a fear - will my data be there tomorrow??? Or, has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Im running Vista Ultimate x64, which has been working fine for ages, no problems I havnt been able to sort out untill now. For some weird reason the sidebar wont load the gadgets or run the already installed items. Sidebar runs ok but without loading anything. Ive searched the forum and googled it to death but cant find a working solution.
Secondly, Windows Update wont start from the control panel anymore. It seems to do auto updates ok, but cant open it manually. Hoping you good people can point me in the right direction. Neither are major probles, just want to know why this has happened and how to resolve it.
Attempting a clean install Vista 32 full OS (not an upgrade) on the below rig. Previously loaded XP without trouble. Now the following message.
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or a USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."
I have tried loading XP again and Vista with the same message. Attempting to access the CD unsuccessful.
I have tried disconnecting the LG drive and using the Sony, same error message. LG has no drivers on site stated they are embedded in Vista...
I'm running a desktop system with Windows Vista Ultimate. I have encountered a problem that I know is being experienced by other Vista users; I'm hoping there is a workaround. I have an internal 1 TB Hitachi hard drive (not the C drive). This desktop system is only about six months old, and ever since I first acquired it I found that this internal hard drive would go missing after putting Vista into Sleep or Hibernation mode. Restarting the system would always enable Vista to recognize the internal 1 TB hard drive again.
However, about two weeks ago this temporary fix wasn't working anymore -- restarting Vista didn't enable the 1 TB internal drive to be recognized. It's been missing ever since. And yet this drive is working properly according to Device Manager (Including having the latest driver). Doing a Google search has produced a few other threads on the web where Vista users are also experiencing missing hard drives. Supposedly this situation is to be directly addressed by Microsoft with the release of Service Pack 1. Unfortunately, I need access to my internal hard drive now, not weeks from now when Service Pack 1 is finally released.
Just received a PC with Vista Business 64 bit and a 80 GB hard drive. I've downloaded Opera and surfed the internet. I've noticed that the total free memory is being reported as 45.3 GB. I've done some research and found this forum. I've checked vssadmin list shadows and it's reported as:
When I go into my computer I cannot see my drive letters, if I type in the drive letter I can then get to that drive:mad: this is very frustrating, I hate having to type in the letter of the drive that I wish to use
i recently updated my window xp to vista and now my internet is not working. i just used to connect my computer straight to the router that is connected to the cable modem and it automatically connects now it doesnt connect at all. i tried connecting it straight to the modem also! but it didnt work at all. vista diagnosed the problem it says network drivers are missing but there are none for cable modems or the router im currently using ( smc7004vbr).
PC has problem displaying flash drive icons correctly in file open and file save dialog boxes. There are 4 flash drives (Compact Flash, SD, Memory Stick, and xD/SM). The 4 drives'icons display fine from Windows Explorer but all 4 drive icons are missing in File Open and File Save dialog boxes. The problem exists in every application's file open and file save that I checked so I'm thinking it's a problem with Vista and not with specific application.
I have the Samsung SH-S223F as my DVD drive, recently it has stopped reading discs, so i can no longer watch DVDs, or get pictures from any of my CDs, its as if there is nothing in the drive. I dont get any error messages except one time it said something about a soundcard driver fault but i didnt read the whole message as it dissapeared, shutting down WMP with it. I do have a soundcard installed (Genius Soundmaker Value 5.1, which i took from my old XP build) but have now reverted to using the onboard sound. Ill remove the soundcard this afternoon to see if that makes a difference.
Last week my CD drive was working perfectly. Today I inserted a disk (which I have used before) and the drive doesn't work, it doesn't even show up. Have I done something? Or is Vista messing me up.
Vista Home Premium Version, Service Release 1 installed. I have a Lightscribe DVD SuperMulti Drive / CD Burner. It was working fine until I installed Photo2DVD program. Uninstalled the problem software (photo2DVD) and now DVD/CD does not work.
Get this message in Device Manager: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."
When I insert a CD or DVD into one of my two drives, it will play but I can't get it to eject. The physical drive button doesn't do it, and if I right click on the drive letter and try "eject" I get an error message. The only way is to physically insert something in the hole, or reboot.
When I insert a CD or a DVD, and double-click the disc drive in Windows Explorer after you insert the disc, the following error message: Insert disk Please insert a disk into Drive (DriveLetter. As you said I select click on Control panel - sound - show disabeld devices and enabled . Still that problem exist.
I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR K17A ATA Device dvd/cd drive that is not working on my Toshiba laptop. When I check out the drives properties through my device settings, the device status reads as below: "This device cannot start. (Code 10) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available." After I check for solutions, nothing happens. I cannot play dvd's or cds or any programs that use this drive.
I have a Toshiba Satellite with Vista32bit and the CD ROM drive is not working. It is called MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA Device. (**** indicate profanity so please use your imagination--starts with 's', ends with 't') In 'Device Manager' I get this message "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code39). When I click "check for solutions" nothing is reported back to me and I can't find out what Code 39 means. When I try to update the driver, I get this message "The best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."
I've also run a ParetoLogic driver scan and it says the driver is okay and up to date. System Information says Drive-Not Available and Status-Error. Also the Network Adaptor 6TO4 Adaptor is in a state of error and System Information says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device." I think the problem was caused when I reinstalled my printer using the disc. I reinstalled it then updated it online. The disc drive whirred into action when I clicked to update the driver, I remembered I hadn't removed the disc and promptly did so...I think that was my mistake.
I posted this a couple of months back: I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 and my DVD drive doesn't seem to be working. I tried it with various CDs and DVDs and it never detects anything. So I went to the Device Manager and this is what it says: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H ATA cannot start (Code 10)." But while the solution kind of worked, it's still not playing the DVDs everytime. First, it doesn't always eject the disc. The only way I can ALWAYS get it out is during restart, or using a paperclip. Second, even if I take the disc out, the computer still tells me it's there (it displays the disc name too...). And worst of all, if the disc is in, it displays the disc name and I click on it, it doesn't load anything most of the time. Unless I restart it, take the disc out at that time and then put it in (and that's not guaranteed to work either).
My DVD player has been working on and off for about a year now. I've finally decided to sort it out, and have done the following but no luck:
1. Deleted upper/lower filters 2. Uninstalled/reinstalled drivers 3. Renamed drive letters in Computer Management (as suggested by Microsoft)
Having looked round a number of forums, they seem to suggest Vista has a specific problem renaming drives when new USBs/dongles/hard drives are used on the machine, which results in DVD player problems and 'no disk' errors. For instance, other people have had DVD recognition problems when installing new hard drives, or using USBs to transfer music files.
From the forums, the answer seems to be renaming drives in the *memory card readers *also, so that windows knows where to go for stuff. But I don't know how exactly to do this, what to rename and how, and whether this works when you're using 2 USBs and a dongle.
i have simpletech 160gb external drive. i cannot access my external drive,i can see the drive but i cannot access it i dont want to format because lots of important file are in it. when i check it from disk management right click the drive E: then on the property windows i choose tools clik the check now boton. it gives me error "The disk check could not be performed because Windows cannot access the disk."
My CD drive wasn't working for a while. I can't remember when it began to do this but it has been a while now. I read forum after forum but couldn't find anything specific to my problems. The CD drive spins the CD, just won't start it to CD. It doesn't matter if it's a CD or DVD.
I ran a "mr. fix it" and it came back and said the dick drive was not detected. Device manager doesn't list the CD/DVD drive, only WDC WD3200BEVT-60ZCT0 ATA Device. I tried updating the drivers and it says they are all up to date. There aren't any filters in the Registry Editor. This did catch my eye, don't know what it means. It is located in the Registry Editor...............
