Sep 17, 2009I recently got The Godfather (The Game) for pc. It wouldn't (message appears - The godfather.exe has stopped working) and wouldn't run. I tried a few fixes (change movies to _movies, run as admin, compatibility set to xp sp2) and none of them worked. I'm wondering now if it just doesn't work on Vista Home Premium x64.

Dungeon Keeper is one of my all time favourite games, took me about a week to find this fix, been working on it really hard. You don't need DosBox, or Virtual Servers etc, just Windows Vista, and Dungeon Keeper. May 24, 2008im not sure what system im using but it have xp and vista system... (not duel boot). Im using limited user on vista/xp but some of my game does not work like gameguard. anyhow to recover administrator password?? the debug administrator is lock(has pw cant open) and my brother don let me play games. i did try other method but dint work.
i cant reset the password from a cmd and i cant reset the password with boot(if boot. it will clear everything than im dead meat) anyway,if there is anyway to disable gameguard or recover the password using C:WINDOWSSystem32 ???

Jun 22, 2009Okay, I'm hoping someone can help me out with this.The start screen comes up, but when I click "play" a small black window titled Oblivion comes up. However, it will not let me enlarge the window or change from simply a black screen. It says it is not responding in task manager, and I have to end the program.
I have an Inspiron 1420 with Vista. I checked and my system meets all minimum requirements, and my video card driver is up to date.

I can't play Quake wars enemy territory, can't play cyris, battlefield 2 demo won't work. All these are demo. Age of empires 3 and war chiefs work just fine.
in the games that don't work they will eventually lock up after a minute to 3 minutes. you also see tons of weird very fast moving lines all over the screen. not sure how to describe it. can take a screenshot if possible.
Temp is fine im sure as is ram etc.
is this a video card being dead issue or what could it be? i am guessing hardware cus this happens in more then one game and the same thing and it happens in both vista and xp. i have prebuilt with the pc it came with vista home premium sp1 64bit and i installed on the second hard drive xp sp3 pro and both oses and the same games have the same issues.
I installed newest nvidia 64bit drivers for vista and the issue still happened.
I'm totally clueless here. My guess is i'll have to take it where I got it for a replacement which is fine as i'm under warranty for 2 total years from when i bought this pc a few months ago.
doing a recovery on the pc doesn't help either. I'm also not running any software other then the game.
i don't have any other issues on the pc, just these ones mentioned in here.
64 Bit Vista Game Crashes
Mar 21, 2009Every game I have crashes. It doesn't happen all the time and it is completely random. It doesn't crash when I'm not playing a game. When it crashes my game the last sound I heard just continuously loops and it won't let me alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del and I have to do a hard reset. This didn't happen with Vista 32 bit with the same hardware. I love 64 bit Vista and I would really hate to have to go back to 32 bit if at all possible.

I've got the latest certified Nvidia drivers, the latest directX update from the download centre, and also the latest sound card drivers. i have tried to update to SP1 to see if that fixes it, but I cannot install SP1 for some reason.

How Run Game Programs In Compatible Gwbasic Modern Vista?
Aug 30, 2008I need to run some very special old game programs in a compatible gwbasic modern Vista home premium labtop. It would be ashame for these funny and entertaining programs to be lost for ever. The book is called computer monsters by Stephen Manes and Paul Somerson. By scholastic inc I typed one of the books program on a cd a person instaled the old GWbasic and I was sad to see it wouldn't run. It was frooze completely. I beleave these book game authors are out of buisness. Where do I go from here?

Sep 7, 2008I have installed civ 4 with the warlords expansion pack on my vista home edition premium 6.0. Install went smoothly. When trying to launch the game i get this error message: This application has failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the applicatio n may fix the problem. I have tried re-installing with no luck.
Microsoft then tells me that the problem is with directx 9 and gives me a link to update the end user run-time installer. Which sounds like a perfect and easy fix.Turns out that no matter what version or update i try to install I am screwed. I get this error message upon the initializing phase of the install: An internal system error occured: Please refer to the dx.error log or the Dx.log in your windows folder.
As i said it does not matter what version of directx i try to update i get the same message. Can I not play Civ 4 on vista? I have heard maybe the compatibility mode might fix but I am unsure how exactly to do that right. I have tried a few times...Also spent hours on the phone with game support

Jul 1, 2008I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).

I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.

2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.

I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.

May 11, 2008My eight year old Dell finally bit the dust and bought a new Gateway preloaded with Norton AV. I have a paid subscription through 01/09 with Windows One Care that I have used for three years with my Dell and never had problems with it. I have always disliked the hoggy Norton and McAfee AV's and will uninstall Norton on the new pc using the uninstall download from Symantec and probably some manual removal as well.
My question is : will WOC work with Vista?? Or should I use some of the free AV's ie Avast, AVG free, etc etc. My pc is only two days old and I don't want to spend days attempting to download new programs and fight with firewalls and potentially messing up new pc.

I have contacted HP and they tell me because my machine, which is in perfect working condition, is 5 yrs old it will not work with Vista. May 14, 2008I've been dealing with this horrendous excuse for an email program for about 2 months now (thus my display name. my new computer came with Home Premium VISTA. I'm seriously thinking of getting my old original copy of XP installed back in my computer at some point. I'd do it myself, but I want to make sure I don't lose anything in the process. I've lost enough because of this fiasco already.
1) I can no longer use a rather expensive program that I bought to build web sites for small businesses (so therefore this also had a direct impact on my income as well as my frustration level). It won't work with Windows VISTA (because it's not a Microsoft product, of course).
2) I receive most email, but I have to check the spam folder constantly -- since I work online from home, and receive a good bit of business email at home that will often contain links, etc., VISTA reads it as "phishing" email and dumps it. And some it seems to dump in there for absolutely no reason at all...........
