was reading others problems, i have a free trail of norton on computer, could this be the problem? and if so is there away to change setting so i can have full use of my computer with out loseing protection?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled Vista and then updated with SP1 when I try to open an email attachment that is a Word .doc file it will not open and gives an error message that the file type does not have an application associated with it. The .doc file extension is associated with Word and I have re-associated it several times. The file will open if I save it elsewhere or drag it to my desktop and then open it. Is there something in the registry or elsewhere.
View 9 Replies View RelatedXP machine died. Am a newbie with Vista Home Premium and the bundled 'Windows Mail" Email client, (WinMail). Have used OE in the past on an XP machine before opted for OUTLOOK. Now evaluating WinMail before deciding on Windows Live OUTLOOK 2007 or Thunderbird, Eudora etc.
Am experiencing a problem with WinMail opening MSFT WORD attachments. When double clicking the attachment, am getting message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." When I go to check the default file association, it is already associating file type "DOC" with Microsoft Office Word. (I have WORD2007.) If I save the attachment with "save as", it defaults the file type to "DOC", (sender probably using WORD 97 - 2003), then I can then open it with WORD2007. Have not experienced the same problem with opening attached "JPG" or "PDF" or AOL Email messages; that is, it will open just by double clicking on the icon/label.
I cannot open any email attachments no matter the format (word, jpg, etc.).

Microsoft office 2003 problem. When starting microsoft word on vista ulitmate, there seems to be a problem. This will automatically shut down, saying there was a problem and is shutting down. The other programs seem fine, Excel, powerpoint, etc. I havent a clue what this could be, has anyone else had this problem.
In the top right corner of microsoft word it will say "Finalizing Installation" and then after you type a couple of sentences it will shut down on its own. This is for a friend of mine, who had microsoft office put on when she bought the laptop of a friend, though she does not have the disk. so i wondered if this is an installation problem. Would this be some sort of copy of microsoft office 2003, that was put on for her She has only found this out now as her son needs to use word for school ( vista ultimate, 64 bit, sp2)
As you may know, quite a few users are experiencing difficulty opening=20 attachments after installing IE8. I've been asked by Microsoft to apprise them of the extent of this = issue. Whenever I attempt to send an email with any attachment, small or large, the system times out and gives mean error message "Task 'mail.comcast.net - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The
operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP)server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' "
It does not seem to be the program - Outlook - since I tried another email program and got the same results. My wife sends emails with no problem on another computer in the same network and same ISP.
I am using Windows Mail in Vista Home Premium & use Norton Internet Security. When I send email attachments, photos etc to people they cannot open them.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Office Home and Student 2007 and have just run a diagnostic which suggests that my installation is not up to date and that I go to the Microsoft Update site and download any available updates. When I do, I am asked to sign on with 'Microsoft Update'. The idea is, I think, to combine this Microsoft Update with my Windows Update and let Office updates come though along with updates for Vista, IE, etc. I have posted here before with issues concerning updates including a fiasco I had last November which involved Office updates and am wondering, since Office seems to be working well at the moment (I was bored so I did a diagnostic ) should I bother with this or just leave it? Does Office have security issues like IE and Vista?
