Apprise Microsoft Of The Problem With Opening Attachments After Installing IE8
May 8, 2009
As you may know, quite a few users are experiencing difficulty opening=20 attachments after installing IE8. I've been asked by Microsoft to apprise them of the extent of this = issue. Those of you who are Microsoft MVPs or otherwise have access to Microsoft Connect, please endorse my Feedback Report
I've been able to open attachments in Windows Mail, but something has changed and now I have to download them first. Is this something that's associated with IE 8,
how to create a set association for attachments ending in .pps. I have found the default location in control panel but am afraid to click on any of the options lest it mess up the opening of other attachments.
I can not open attachments in my email. Until 3weeks ago I had no problems. Have tried opening and saving. opening in other email accounts such as aol, verizon, etc, opening and saving, opening and saving to desk top, nothing has worked....I do not get any error messages...nothing happens.
When I attempt to open .pdf file attachments I get the following: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. I have Abode Reader 9. I don't know how to do this. Where is the Set Associations control panel?
When I receive a list of pics as attachments, I click on the top one in the list to view it, and it appears fine, but to view second pic must close viewer and click on second one in list, cannot just hit "next" to see next pic. Anyway to fix this so all pics can be viewed one after another?
Every time I click on an email attachment to open it, I always get the window/box saying "you should only open attachments from a trustworthy source." How do I "fix" this pesky default? When I determine I want to open an attachment, that should be all that is required. A most irritating issue.
XP machine died. Am a newbie with Vista Home Premium and the bundled 'Windows Mail" Email client, (WinMail). Have used OE in the past on an XP machine before opted for OUTLOOK. Now evaluating WinMail before deciding on Windows Live OUTLOOK 2007 or Thunderbird, Eudora etc.
Am experiencing a problem with WinMail opening MSFT WORD attachments. When double clicking the attachment, am getting message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." When I go to check the default file association, it is already associating file type "DOC" with Microsoft Office Word. (I have WORD2007.) If I save the attachment with "save as", it defaults the file type to "DOC", (sender probably using WORD 97 - 2003), then I can then open it with WORD2007. Have not experienced the same problem with opening attached "JPG" or "PDF" or AOL Email messages; that is, it will open just by double clicking on the icon/label.
Suddenly I cannot click on attachments to mail and have them open. This applies to any type of attachment, but most of mine are Office documents. When I try to open a Word document, it opens Word, and then a Word error message pops up saying: This file could not be found. (C:windowssystem32document name) I have unchecked the "do not allow attachments to be saved or opened" box (it was off already). I turned off email scan in Norton 360. No effect.I can, however, save the document and then open it. Which is timeconsuming.
I received a notice that a service pack was available for my Vista os. Wanting to keep my operating system current and up to date, I clicked to install it. After leaving the computer run, I returned to find the computer had rebooted as I expected it to. The problem arrived when I went to check email. Clicking on any attachment, nothing will open! Jpg, mpg, wmv, pdf, nothing opents! I went to "Tools, Options" and made sure that my settings allowed attachments to be opened. Clicking Apply, I checked all other settings, made sure all appeared correct, I clicked ok.
I rebooted the computer again, and checked mail and once again, nothing would open...This happened to me once before, and I simply went to my system restore points and restored from an earlier date. Problem solved! So thinking that this would work, and as I have my computer set restore points weekly, I went to restore to an earlier date. Unfortunately, the only restore point was at the time of the update! So even though I restored the computer, it didn't solve the problem.
I have recently done an upgrade on my internet explorer. I am unsure if my problem relates to this; however, I am unable to open documents in my emails (windows mail). I did not have any problems before hand. "This file does not have a program associated with it..." or "windows cannot find 'image.jpg'. Make sure you typed the name correctly..." " there was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found" are the error messages I receive. This is occurring so far with .pps , .pdf, and .jpg attachments on newly received messages and saved messages. Has any one had the same sort of problem or have a solution?
Has anyone solved the problem of being unable to open attachments in Windows mail? I can't open office documents, pdf files, or photos unless I save them to my computer. I get the error message noted by others .. Windows can't find the file ..... temp....I don't have McAfee. I use Trend Internet Security.
I wa always able to ooen attachments in my e-mail by clicking on the clip on the side of the e-mail and it automatically opened. All of a sudden, it won't open, I have to save it and then open it from my documents. When I click on it, Word or Excel will come up, but it says it can't find the file that was attached - and that never happened in the past. I "repaired" my Office 2007 in case something was wrong there, but that didn't help. Does anyone know what might have happened - Is this a Vista problem - and how do I fix it, so I can once again open my e-mail attachments directly from the e-mail.
When I go to open an attachment, it tells me "The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." I have no idea what that means or how to find that control panel.
i get this error message when i try to open an attachment: this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the folder options control panel. can you please help me with this? what does it mean? how do i perform this action?
I have a factory install version of trend microcillin, if I unistall it how do I get it back if that is not the problem with the opening of attachements. As others have said I have been using it for over a year and had no problems until I updated vista lately

when i install Windows Vista and it is on Expanding Files it takes a really long time, its suddenly stops and its takes a really long time to increase the percentage of Expanding the files...
When it's finish Expanding the files it takes about 1 hr to install and when the installation is complete the start up takes about 30 minutes to finish and open the desktop and when im in the desktop, it takes about 10 minutes to just click on something and usually it freezes or locks up and it will just continue reading.....
I have already tested the "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" and it said that my computer can run any Vista Version. i've been so stress just waiting for the installation of this Windows.
Vista Home Premium prevents installation of Microsoft C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and returns Error 1935. Microsoft website lists Microsoft C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) as Vista compatible product.
If I buy a laptop, can I use the product with same product key that I installed to my PC? Product Like "Office Home and Student 2007" and "Microsoft Outlook 2007".
Running Vista Ultimate, had tried to install Logitech Pro 3000 cam. Not able to do so, bought Microsoft LifecamVX-3000 which is supposed to be Vista certified. Inserted the installation disc as instructions and was told that it was not compatible with Vista. Link to Microsoft where an updated file was available. Downloaded and installed and plugged in USB connector for the Cam as instructed. Plug and Play now pops up and tells me that it is not certified. Another box comes up telling me that it is finished. Close the Plug and Play dialog box. and the another box tells me that installation has failed and underneath thia I get, Installation was successfull. Am not able to use it because Cam has not been detected.
When attempting to instal Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 on my Windows Vista computer, I got the following error: Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite - ENU: [2] ERROR:Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.42",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="ia64"'.
I was using Microsoft Outlook Express as my mail client. Then Microsoft advised users to update to Windows Mail since they no longer supported Outlook Express..so I did. Now Microsoft is directing users to install Microsoft LIVE Mail? What is the difference between Microsoft Mail (which I am running) and Microsoft LIVE Mail....and, why would a user run LIVE over MAIL?
I am running Office Home and Student 2007 and have just run a diagnostic which suggests that my installation is not up to date and that I go to the Microsoft Update site and download any available updates. When I do, I am asked to sign on with 'Microsoft Update'. The idea is, I think, to combine this Microsoft Update with my Windows Update and let Office updates come though along with updates for Vista, IE, etc. I have posted here before with issues concerning updates including a fiasco I had last November which involved Office updates and am wondering, since Office seems to be working well at the moment (I was bored so I did a diagnostic ) should I bother with this or just leave it? Does Office have security issues like IE and Vista?
I think I accidentally selected the option to open up all files in Internet Explorer when I got a pop-up requesting it when I tried opening a valid file.
Anyone know how to restore this on Windows Vista?I can't open MOST of my files (especially critical ones), let alone Internet Explorer or Firefox, only this Safari browser! :o
Somehow my Trash Bin icon has disappeared from my desktop and I can't even click on the Change Desktop Icons link after I right-click -> Personalize because of the above problem.
