Command Failed To Execute :: Opening Attachments After Update
Feb 8, 2009
I have a factory install version of trend microcillin, if I unistall it how do I get it back if that is not the problem with the opening of attachements. As others have said I have been using it for over a year and had no problems until I updated vista lately
When i installed IE 8 as part of a Windows update I now have a problem opening pictures and other attachments in Winmail. I note that everyone appears to be having a problem with this update. If it does not work, it needs to be removed from the updates for Windows Vista. Vista is enough of a pain without adding to it.
I tried to open both PDF and video files and am unable to. I tried saving the files and can't I get the command failed to execute. I installed IE8 and uninstalled and am still unable to open attachments.
I have attempted numerous attachments ranging from power point to emails forwarded as attachments and am getting the error message "The command failed to execute." Was doing fine with all my email attachments until I received an upgrade for Vista. My upgrades are automatically received and downloaded from Microsoft.
after installing automatic updates:ie8, winmail, Vista sp2, error message " command failed to execute" when attempting to open any type of attachment. only work around found is to save the attachment to a different folder then open. This is very annoying, it is un-believeable that MS would sabotage their own products with updates that DONT WORK, and I would expect a MS fix soon.
I use Vista and have a problem. I can open my attachments, however, when I go back to open them again I get a message that says "command failed to execute".
I see lots and lots of discussions. This is EASY to fix. I have Vista & IE8, BTW. click on Start (or the circle thingy for Vista), All Programs and right click Windows Mail (under All Programs, not on the start menu). Select Properties. The value "Start in:" is set to %UserProfile%. This does not work because opening an attachment cannot save the attachment to a temporary file on that folder. I changed it to "%UserProfile%Local SettingsTemp" and that fixes the problem. You can also just clear the field "Start in:" (remove the value) and that fixes it also.
I upgraded to IE8 yesterday, and have experienced this problem since then. I was previously able to open the attachments, but now I am getting the error message, Command failed to execute.
This problem started yesterday after downloading IE8, I went ina d changed the security setttings like advised in an earlier question. This solved the problem and worked yeasterday. Today when I try and open attachments it gives me the error "The command failed to execute" again. I have checked he security settings and reset the Internet settings. Still can't open attachments. What will resolve this issue?
I am getting the error "The command failed to execute" when I try opening a ..pps file in windows mail. I have Power Point 2000 installed (yes, I know, old version, but this my fathers machine and he is not wanting to buy the latest version if this continues to work, which I can understand). Anyway, the default file associations are properly set, and when the file is saved into the documents directory, you can click on the file and it will open properly. This problem is only happening in Windows Mail. Is there a simple fix to this?
Windows Vista/32 bit/Home Premium. I installed IE8, started getting "command failed to execute" when I tried to open an attachment in my Hotmail (old style not Live) on MSN Premium with MSN Explorer. They would open in Live. I like the old stuff because it's easier to use for me. I read the threads to uninstall IE8. I did and problem fixed. Go to microsoft.com, click on the support tab, click IE Solution Center, click How to uninstall IE8, click Microsoft Fix It.
If it goes to your Download Manager, run it fro there after it downloads. Restart and check as it tells you to see that it uninstalled. Hope this works for you also. You'd think Microsoft could put a package together that would work with their own systems.... I have another problem that no one seems to know how to fix, had a recommendation to go to Mozilla Firefox.
I opened my windows mail this morning. As many others have done. The "command failed to execute" came up when I tried to open a pdf or adobe file. I have never had trouble opening them before. So? I looked at another e-mail that had a pdf/adobe file attached and the same thing happened.
Could someone please advise. I went threw the posts and seems everyone thinks it is connected with their anti virus. I run Previx and have for several years. No updates to it lately and never a problem such as this. I made sure the security box was unchecked. Which it was.
All of a sudden when I try to open attachments I get "The Command Failed To Execute" I hate Vista it gets worse and worse. They must have expected big problems as they uped their charges for help and when it crashes it now says do you want to return to your orginial site?
As of today I can no longer open attachments. I have already unchecked the box that won't allow certain attachments and that didn't work. If I right click on the mail and double click on the attachment I get the message, "command failed to execute". I used to be able to single left click on an attachment to open but that does nothing now, just sits there without even an error message. The only thing I've done differently is take an update that they said I needed in order to make my screen saver work. I did that days ago though, and that shouldn't have affected my mail.
I received the "command failed to execute" message when I tried to open an attachment on an e-mail. Why is this? What do I have to do to open the attachments no matther which extension has?
I either get "the command failed to execute" or the attachment seems like it will open in the web and then nothing happens when trying to open attachments in Windows Vista. I recently installed IE8, but had the same problem when I had iE7, except I wouldn't get "the command failed to execute" error. It would just act as if it would open, but not do anything.
I'll write this question in english to reach a larger public, although this is a problem I have with windows mail on a x64 dutch vista. Whenever I try to open an attachment in Windows Mail when I specifically open it by clicking on it from the list with email items, I'm getting this error: "Cannot execute command". When I try to do the same by clicking on the message so it displays a preview in the preview window, and then clicking on the paper clip icon, it doesn't show a message, but nothing happens. It doesn't matter how small/large the attachments are nor what their file type is. I can save any attachment, neither approaches give me problems with that. But opening them won't work...This is really inconvenient, because I have to save the attachments to a temp folder all the time, before being able to open them by using Windows Explorer.
I've been able to open attachments in Windows Mail, but something has changed and now I have to download them first. Is this something that's associated with IE 8,
how to create a set association for attachments ending in .pps. I have found the default location in control panel but am afraid to click on any of the options lest it mess up the opening of other attachments.
I can not open attachments in my email. Until 3weeks ago I had no problems. Have tried opening and saving. opening in other email accounts such as aol, verizon, etc, opening and saving, opening and saving to desk top, nothing has worked....I do not get any error messages...nothing happens.
When I attempt to open .pdf file attachments I get the following: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. I have Abode Reader 9. I don't know how to do this. Where is the Set Associations control panel?
When I receive a list of pics as attachments, I click on the top one in the list to view it, and it appears fine, but to view second pic must close viewer and click on second one in list, cannot just hit "next" to see next pic. Anyway to fix this so all pics can be viewed one after another?
Every time I click on an email attachment to open it, I always get the window/box saying "you should only open attachments from a trustworthy source." How do I "fix" this pesky default? When I determine I want to open an attachment, that should be all that is required. A most irritating issue.
XP machine died. Am a newbie with Vista Home Premium and the bundled 'Windows Mail" Email client, (WinMail). Have used OE in the past on an XP machine before opted for OUTLOOK. Now evaluating WinMail before deciding on Windows Live OUTLOOK 2007 or Thunderbird, Eudora etc.
Am experiencing a problem with WinMail opening MSFT WORD attachments. When double clicking the attachment, am getting message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." When I go to check the default file association, it is already associating file type "DOC" with Microsoft Office Word. (I have WORD2007.) If I save the attachment with "save as", it defaults the file type to "DOC", (sender probably using WORD 97 - 2003), then I can then open it with WORD2007. Have not experienced the same problem with opening attached "JPG" or "PDF" or AOL Email messages; that is, it will open just by double clicking on the icon/label.
Suddenly I cannot click on attachments to mail and have them open. This applies to any type of attachment, but most of mine are Office documents. When I try to open a Word document, it opens Word, and then a Word error message pops up saying: This file could not be found. (C:windowssystem32document name) I have unchecked the "do not allow attachments to be saved or opened" box (it was off already). I turned off email scan in Norton 360. No effect.I can, however, save the document and then open it. Which is timeconsuming.
I received a notice that a service pack was available for my Vista os. Wanting to keep my operating system current and up to date, I clicked to install it. After leaving the computer run, I returned to find the computer had rebooted as I expected it to. The problem arrived when I went to check email. Clicking on any attachment, nothing will open! Jpg, mpg, wmv, pdf, nothing opents! I went to "Tools, Options" and made sure that my settings allowed attachments to be opened. Clicking Apply, I checked all other settings, made sure all appeared correct, I clicked ok.
I rebooted the computer again, and checked mail and once again, nothing would open...This happened to me once before, and I simply went to my system restore points and restored from an earlier date. Problem solved! So thinking that this would work, and as I have my computer set restore points weekly, I went to restore to an earlier date. Unfortunately, the only restore point was at the time of the update! So even though I restored the computer, it didn't solve the problem.
