Installing Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000, Not Certified, Cam Not Detected
Mar 23, 2008
Running Vista Ultimate, had tried to install Logitech Pro 3000 cam. Not able to do so, bought Microsoft LifecamVX-3000 which is supposed to be Vista certified. Inserted the installation disc as instructions and was told that it was not compatible with Vista. Link to Microsoft where an updated file was available. Downloaded and installed and plugged in USB connector for the Cam as instructed. Plug and Play now pops up and tells me that it is not certified. Another box comes up telling me that it is finished. Close the Plug and Play dialog box. and the another box tells me that installation has failed and underneath thia I get, Installation was successfull. Am not able to use it because Cam has not been detected.

why Microsoft would release a product knowing that there are unresolved issues with the product? What is the point of doing Beta testing if you are not going to find all the bugs, fix them and then release the product? I'm not trying to be flippant(sp?) here. This is a serious question. With all the money, man/woman power and brain power available to Microsoft for R&D, why is it so hard to put out a product that works from the word go? I don't want to become Microsoft certified in order to keep my computer running. I shouldn't have to fool with my computers registry so that I can install an update to fix a problem that they knew about before they sold it to me. Come on Bill. I thought the whole purpose of technology advancing was to make our life easier. I want to insert disk and push play. I'm not talking about dumbing things down. I'm talking about Microsoft developing their products, making sure they work and then selling them to us. Interesting concept

when i install Windows Vista and it is on Expanding Files it takes a really long time, its suddenly stops and its takes a really long time to increase the percentage of Expanding the files...
When it's finish Expanding the files it takes about 1 hr to install and when the installation is complete the start up takes about 30 minutes to finish and open the desktop and when im in the desktop, it takes about 10 minutes to just click on something and usually it freezes or locks up and it will just continue reading.....
I have already tested the "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" and it said that my computer can run any Vista Version. i've been so stress just waiting for the installation of this Windows.

I can't get my lifecam to load properly into vista even with updated software. I have a 6 GB hard drive and saw somewhere that if your HD is over 4 gb you need a hotfix from windows to enable it to download properly.

As you may know, quite a few users are experiencing difficulty opening=20 attachments after installing IE8. I've been asked by Microsoft to apprise them of the extent of this = issue. Those of you who are Microsoft MVPs or otherwise have access to Microsoft Connect, please endorse my Feedback Report

I was using Microsoft Outlook Express as my mail client. Then Microsoft advised users to update to Windows Mail since they no longer supported Outlook Express..so I did. Now Microsoft is directing users to install Microsoft LIVE Mail? What is the difference between Microsoft Mail (which I am running) and Microsoft LIVE Mail....and, why would a user run LIVE over MAIL?

So my cd/dvd drive doesn't show up on my computer. I have a dell inspiron 5315 desktop. I searched the forum here and found nothing that worked. I tried to uninstall it from my device manager but it would reinstall itself upon reboot, i tried to delete my upper and lower registries for the drive but I don't have lower registry for that. I also checked my autoplay settings but everything was fine there.

(My laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 w/ Windows Vista Ultimate)Vista states that no battery was detected, yet i have one inserted. I've tried pulling it out and putting it back in, even the BIOS settings detect no battery. When I remove the power cable, it still runs off battery, but the battery light turns red. Also, I am trying to upgrade my BIOS and as a requirement, you must have your computer connected to the battery AND to the charger

Pardon if I just sound really computer illiterate, but I've recently switched from Windows XP to Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.. and can't connect to the internet. I've got an HP Firebird 802, even sent it back to the company only to be told they had no problems connecting. I plugged in the ethernet cable directly into our wireless modem/router, but it still tells me that the network cable is unplugged. I've turned on Network Discovery, and still nothing. Just a lovely red X over my network status. I have a Westell 327w wireless modem/router, and the other computers that are on it are running XP.

Now I've been having a weird issue with my ClearChat Comfort USB microphone and I've been asking both Logitech and Microsoft for support. So far, Logitech claims it's Microsoft's problem and Microsoft.... well anyway. I plug my microphone (Certified for Windows Vista) and nothing happens... I mean, there's nothing even in Device Manager. Now there are no drivers for this microphone and I haven't found any hotfix. I thought it was because of Vista 64x but I tried on my laptop using Vista 32 home edition and got the same issue. It worked well on my laptop before Vista Service Pack came out. Oh and yes, I have the latest version of all~ drivers

My C drive is filling up for some reason. I haven't installed anything new to it in a long time and have next to nothing downloaded on it. The drive is 70GB of which about 17 GB is stuff I've added. However, I apparently have used up 68 GB!! ANtivirus (AVG, Norton previous) hasn't detected anything.
It appears my C:Windows is 19 GB and another file, C:UsersMyname is using up another 16 GB. Can I reduce these, and how? Also, that leaves another 26GB completely unaccounted for! What's going on here?

I just bought this new HP laptop several months and now its infected with malware Trojan. A full scan on Windows defender shows that trojan is detected in some of the .dll files. I deleted 2 files on which it said trojan was detected. But next time I scanned on Windows Defender, some other .dll file showed up. Also scan on Bell Sympatico's Anti virus service, it shows no virus or spywares. My laptop is very slow than before, and also internet explorer browsers keep opening and they take me to some random antivirus sites.

I'm a very capable user running a Dell E1505 here. The battery lasted less than a year, and then I replaced it with a brand new battery. This has been in there for at most a month now. The past two days I have had an interesting situation going on. The computer is running Vista Home Premium, and it's running on AC. The battery seems to be working fine. It's detected fine, the PC runs off of the battery, and it charges as well. It's not set to suspend, hibernate, or anything like that at any time; these features are all deactivated because I am never in a situation to use them.
However, for the past few days, I have closed the lid and then gone to sleep at night, but when I have opened it up the next morning, I have the red X icon that says the battery is not detected. I've unseated the battery and clicked it back in each time, and it is immediately recognized and operates completely normally as described above after that.
The first time that this happened, I thought it may just have been some odd thing as can happen now and then with computers, and I ignored it. I went through my day using the E1505 as usual: leaving it unattended for minutes or hours while doing other things, closing the lid before going to the store, opening the lid again, etc., and it worked fine. However, when I awoke this morning the X was there with the no battery message. I again unseated and reseated the battery, and all seems normal.

Just finished building my new workstation....1x 250GB SATA drive on wich I want to install Vista Ultimate x64. 3x 500GB SATA drive wich i'd like to have running in Raid-5.
Asus P5E motherboard.
My first take was this:
1) connect all HDD's
2) Install vista on 250GB drive, leave 500GB drives alone for now.
3) Update Vista.
4) Restart, enable RAID in BIOS.
5) Ctrl+I at startup, setup RAID-5 with the 3 500GB HDD's in RAIDmanager. So far so good..... RAID manager shows RAID-5 correctly and shows that 250GB drive isnon-raid.
6) Reset, problem: no startup *"No bootbable drives found"* In BIOS, it shows all drives under boot devices, and the 250GB drive asthe first boot disk. But before the 250GB name it sais RAID also, wich I guess it shouldnot.......

I use the Vista Firewall plus AVG Free 8.0 together with Firefox 3.5 Browser with Adblock. I also carry out a periodic manual scan using AdAware Anniversary Edition free.
Vista comes with Windows Defender, but in the 2 years I have had Vista, whenever I have scanned with it, it always reports 'no unwanted or harmful software detected - your computer is running normally!' Very reassuring or what? Does this mean everything else is doing a really good job or could it mean that Windows Defender is really not much use?

I just got a new computer with Vista. I'm trying to get a headset that I used on my old computer to work. The headset is a free one that came with some language learning software so there's no driver. In the sound manager, Vista detects the microphone as being plugged in - as a "Microphone/Line In - SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC", but no program notices any sound coming from it. It is set as the default microphone and it's enabled. It works on my old computer still.

It worked extremely well in Windows XP Home. I emailed Canon and they said that right now there is no support for 64 bit Vista with the camera. However, I have 4 GB of RAM and 2GB of Turbo Memory and I wouldn't want it to go to waste.
Is there any way I can email Microsoft (without having to pay $35 dollars) to suggest support for these products or if I were to install Vista Ultimate 32bit, would I lose my ability to use 4GB of RAM and the 2GB of Turbo Memory? How about if I dual boot it, would there be any complications? Can I use the same CD KEY as neither OS would be on at the same time?
