Cannot Open Word .doc From Email Attachments
Apr 15, 2008I reinstalled Vista and then updated with SP1 when I try to open an email attachment that is a Word .doc file it will not open and gives an error message that the file type does not have an application associated with it. The .doc file extension is associated with Word and I have re-associated it several times. The file will open if I save it elsewhere or drag it to my desktop and then open it. Is there something in the registry or elsewhere.

Jul 6, 2008Word 2007 temporarily freezes to the point that I cannot use it when I do certain things like click on text box and have to wait for the list of templates to be shown. I have to open task manager which makes the list go away, but the next time I click on text box it works normally. This happens on other things where theres similar pretty list of things.

Jul 26, 2008I tried doing the same as in 'Word has stopped working' and it did not work for me. I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and I have Office 2007 (licensed). For a few months Word was working fine and one not-so-fine-day it decided to work errantly. It opens up fine but
- the scroll up and down button stopped working, (also the scroll-bar)
- does not open a word file if the file icon is clicked,
- when I click the Office-button and then 'Word-Options' the options like 'Trust Center' etc do not work. These do not even get the focus when mouse moves over it
- When I close word. It consistently pops up 'Word has stopped working' I guess this has something to do with user-interface icons, buttons etc. I have installed, re-installed Word and also all HP drivers..
Finding Word 2007 Docs
Mar 23, 2008I have a problem finding Word 2007 files from the Search field in Windows Explorer. Example: I have a file named "test.docx" in "My Documents", and I can see that file right in the Windows Explorer window. However, if I type, say ".docx", or "test", in the Search field in the top right-hand corner of Explorer, the search comes up empty. I can,however, get the search function to find the file if I: use the Search item on the Start Menu use the "Advanced Search" options in Windows Explorer, and have it search all indexed locations use the "Advanced Search" options in Windows Explorer, and have it search in non-indexed locations, hidden and system files
This problem only seems to exist with .docx files, so this may actually be an issue of the Office 2007 indexer rather than Vista. It looks like the Word indexer does not properly store the location information of the file. Oh, and the problem I have may or may not be related to the fact that on my system I have (of course) relocated the My Documents folder to a separate partition. Are others seeing this, too? Is there a fix for this?

Jul 8, 2008I have searched numerous threads and google/yahoo searches for my continuing issues with MS Word 2007 Spell Checker. Spell Checker no longer identifies spelling errors yet grammar correction remains. I have tried registry tweaks and carefully examining the proofing options within Word 2007. I do not have a previous version for a custom install so that is not an option. Spell Check functions fine in ppt and xls but not in Word anymore. If a Word fix is not available are there any free spell checkers that will function inside a word document?

I have been asked this many times following up on the blog entry Installing Office 2003 and Office 2007 on the same system where once people have removed the problem with the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) appearing every time they start Office they then get the dialogs below every time they switch between Word 2007 and Word 2003. when starting Word 2003 when starting Word 2007 The fix to the problem is very simple as it turns out - simply run the following commands (by pressing the Windows Key+R or typing it into the Start/Run command box. Use the line with Office11.0 if you have Office 2003 installed and Office12.0 if you have Office 2007 installed. Opening MSFT WORD DOC Attachments
Mar 23, 2008XP machine died. Am a newbie with Vista Home Premium and the bundled 'Windows Mail" Email client, (WinMail). Have used OE in the past on an XP machine before opted for OUTLOOK. Now evaluating WinMail before deciding on Windows Live OUTLOOK 2007 or Thunderbird, Eudora etc.
Am experiencing a problem with WinMail opening MSFT WORD attachments. When double clicking the attachment, am getting message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." When I go to check the default file association, it is already associating file type "DOC" with Microsoft Office Word. (I have WORD2007.) If I save the attachment with "save as", it defaults the file type to "DOC", (sender probably using WORD 97 - 2003), then I can then open it with WORD2007. Have not experienced the same problem with opening attached "JPG" or "PDF" or AOL Email messages; that is, it will open just by double clicking on the icon/label.

Apr 12, 2009I am having two problems with attachments and would welcome any advice as to how to solve. These pertain to Windows Mail and MSOffice running with Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit. 1) When I receive an email message in Windows Mail with an Office document attached and I double-click the attachment, the appropriate program (Word, Excel, whatever) will open, and then I get an error message that Office cannot find the document I am trying to open. If I go back to the email and double-click on it a second time, it will open normally. How do I get it to open the first time?
2) When I compose a message in Windows Mail and attempt to attach an open MSOffice document that I have saved, Windows Mail will not send the attachment with the message. If I close the document, it will attach and I can send it. For example, I write a document, I save it to my documents folder, I compose a Windows Mail message and attempt to attach the document from the documents folder. It appears to have attached but when I hit "send" I get an error message that says the attachment cannot be sent with the message (and if I continue and send it, the attachment doesn't go). If I close the document in MSOffice and attempt again to attach the saved document from the documents folder it works fine.
Word Crashes On Open
Feb 16, 2009Word 2007 (on vista 32 bit) crashed this morning. It won't open again without crashing. It opens the window, I can see that it is asking me to open the recued document, on the left side, but then it crashes... looks for a problem... nothing... then it says "An Unknown error has occured" - but the litle window has "Endnote x1" in the header. - I have Endnote X1, obviously, and they don't work wonderfully together, but never this kind of problem. I've installed all the recent service packs, in the last few days. Word updates itself I'm pretty sure. Explorer crashes all the time, I think that it adobe related though *sigh*.

If I double click on a document file in Explorer nothing happens. If I right click and select Open With, and then click on wordicon, nothing happens. I am also unable to launch Word from the Works Suite program launcher. I can open Word, no problem, and it appears to work fine, but to edit a document I have to search for it from within Word, which is often inconvient. I have un-installed the suite, and re-installed it, but the problem still persists.
