Everytime i use winrar (trillion times a day). User Account Control reports "an unidentified program wants to access your computer". It's not "unidentified" - I know what it is, i trust it & it's *my* computer - not Microsoft's. How do i tell UAC that? Or is it a Vista fail safe device to only allow the use of Microsoft Software?

Then told me to go to C:windowsMobile center and run setup from here. I did what it told me, but I can't get it to install. After this failure installation, I saw Windows Mobile Device Center from Start Program. I cliked on it, and it tried to install the WMDC again, then gave me the same error message. I spend hours and hours to google, but I can't find solution.

I registerd the MAC address on my wireless LAN (using a Draytek Vigor 2600We router. I can reach quite a lot of websites either through IE or Opera, but cannot reach Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Symantec and others. My laptop has 3Gb of RAM and an Intel core duo processor so it is more than adequate.

I think I disabled it trying to update it. This was before I found this short sweet article from Microsoft. now in device manager, i found one unknown device(which is shown in Other Devices in Device manager), i tried most of drivers for it.
but not able to get it. i even do not know what device it is.
I checked all the solutions for XP, and I tried (I suppose ) all of them, but I still cannot get chkdsk /f to work when I boot Vista Ultimate.

"Almost" no problems untill yesterday: when I tried to install winrar, the message "winrar.exe does not work properly" appeard (I don't knwow if this is correctly translated from my Dutch version). WinRAR It just doesn't work!!!Everytime I try to extract files it says : " No archives found" or that it cannot create folder. I installed it all over again but it still doesn't work! BTW I have MS Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1 OriginPro 8 Cannot open a file that is not in the folder that was created when the program was installed. Well, that wouldn't be a major problem if I could open that folder or, for that matter, if that folder really existed outsidse the program.
After using winrar to extract a large file (1gb+) my computer becomes really slow. The only way to fix it is to restart it which takes about 10 mins! I have noticed in task manager that the Physical Memory is up over 90% after extracting a large file. I never used to have this problem how can I fix it?

I managed to make a set of backup dvds through the HP backup system just before the computer completely died. Vista Home Premium does not recognize these backup dvds, even though it does show that there are files on each of the dvds. Is there any way to retrieve the information on them?

1) My WinRAR score with the TLB fix enabled is a sickening 80!!! vs 454 disabled. So I am certain that the fix was disabled at my score of 454.
2)Regarding number of active cores:
a) When I run task manager I see only ONE window for CPU in performance.
b) Running CPU-Z V1.49 shows ONE Processor ONE Core
c) CrystalCUPID V 4.15 shows only ONE of One cores (Code name Agena?) I should see 1/FOUR
d) In Vista Sidebar using mCPU Gadget: Shows Four cores HOWEVER
only ONE ever displays activity. I tested it by really loading up applications and Never saw activity of the other three cores!!!......

I've had some issues with the winrar shell integration, the program works fine for extracting files with doubleclick to open it up, extract to etc. But using rightclick, drag, extract here just doesn't do anything. I figured it had something to do with the untrusted programs popupthing, so i tried disabling the Windows Defender which still didn't help.

Can not get my HP 7400 scanner to work after upgrading to Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Not the hardware - works fine under XP pro using same hardware configuration. Did a clean install, installed motherboard BIOS updates, scanner BIOS updates, Vista updates and the correct driver from HP. The scanner installed and Device Manager says device is working properly. When I try to scan, scanner initializes, starts to scan then locks up. Then can no longer be seen. ASUS M2N-E motherboard with AMD dual core. Other than that Vista works OK with the rest of my system
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1 but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it. i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update. i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it.

I've been lurking here on the forum for a while now and having seen quite a few folks having problems with their upgrades, I thought a post sharing the steps I took, which resulted in a Smooooth and problem free upgrade, might be of interest to some.
In no way am I advocating or recommending ANY of the steps that are shown here (i.e. turning off the firewall, etc.).
First phase:
-Purchase and download the upgrade to my hard drive (shoparhive.com was less costly than digital locker). Since I live 40 miles away from the nearest store, I preferred the digital download.
-Extract the .iso file using winrar to an empty folder on the desktop.
-Performed full system virus scan.
-Performed full system spyware scan.
-Performed full system backup to the removable HP media drive.
-Burn the downloaded iso file to dvd, and the extracted files to another dvd.
Second phase:....................
Any idea when Microsoft will offer Vista SP1 via Windows update for languages other than English?

I do not know much about it as it is not mine, but the problem is the audio was cutting out and now there is nothing. The computer is not recognizing any type of audio device installed. Even in Device Manager, there is no option for Sound, game and controllers. I have tried downloading the driver and installing, but no luck there.
