When I attempt to open Windows Mail for the first time each day the splash screen appears and then, 9 times out of 10, my computer freezes. This only happens the first time each day. It opens instantly for the remainder of the day. I am forced to power off and reboot which can happen 1 to 3 times before Windows Mail will open. I am running Vista with SP1. I have not installed anything new and no settings have been changed.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have successfully been using p2p connections on my previous Windows Vista 32 setup on my laptop, however, since I bought this desktop with 64 bit windows my computer continually locks as I open p2p connections. Included programs which cause the lock are, Azureus, Blizzard Downloader, and Bit Torrent. I believe this may be a port issue. Not sure however. Has anyone had this issue with 64 bit Vista?
The freeze is almost instant as the program opens. Within 5 seconds of opening any of the above programs the comptuer locks/freezes requiring a restart as I can do nothing else. This is why I suspect a port problem; it seems as the firewall opens the p2p port, the computer instantly freezes.
The problem i have is when i load windows it comes up fine, but if i open up anything it freezes for 5-6 seonds then does it then freezes again and again i have updated all my drivers, when its been on for say 5-10 mins its fine seems to correspond with the vista update as soon as it pops up saying updates available about 2 mins after that its fine getting to the point where im going to trash it and reload xp

I'm running Vista Home Premium x64. At least 4-5 times a day my computer completely freezes up and will remain that way until I manually restart it. I've looked at the problem reports and solutions and there seems to be 2 main problems. Most of the errors are under the group called "windows." the Problem event name states there was a blue screen error. I've heard of the blue screen error, but I thought it was odd that my screen didn't actually turn blue. The other problems are under the group "windows explorer." The error name there is "AppHangB1." I have no idea what that means.
Just bought a brand new gateway nv52 with vista home premium x64 and it is constantly crashing like several times a day. I'll be running just a few programs like firefox and windows media player or word processor and the computer will freeze, the sound will take whatever the last little note that came out and stutter repeat it several times and then the entire screen will go completely blank to a dark blue screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got a new HP Pavilion d6500t with installed Vista Ultimate x64. Has been tough going, but was scraping by until today. I installed Quickbooks (via download) and transferred my data files from my old pc to the new pc. Things seemed fine. then BAM!
The screen became "jumpy" and I received a number of error messages. Could not bring up Task Manager, so I had to shut down the pc manually (turned it off). Reboot involved a system check because of the manual shut-down. System check was fine...but, now my pc is frozen on a black screen with the hp logo in the middle. My choices are the usual: Press <ESC> to enable startup message, <F1> to enter System information...etc. I cannot go ANYWHERE from here. The F-keys are not responding AND I cannot even manually shut off the pc! I am a total novice when it comes to pc systems.
Periodically, my Vista SP1 PC freezes up. The mouse vanishes unless you move to to the bottom of the screen where the taskbar is -- and you'll see a spinning blue circle - but no keys or clicks work. Here's the question. When this happens, does manually restarting by holding down the power button damage the computer or performance or reliability of Vista?

I had a notebook computer that I bought and I installed ypops so that I could get my yahoo mail in the new Windows mail program. It went crazy and downloaded 400 of my emails from my yahoo account, which deleted them from there for good, before I could stop it. Well, I sent that computer back because it had a million problems. Now, I have a law suit going on with a company that I paid to customer make some furniture and they are not producing it. My attorney wants copy's of correspondence. Most of those emails were downloaded via ypops from Yahoo into Windows mail on the other laptop that I forgot to back-up or forward to this computer or any other....
Are those emails out there somewhere. Can I set up windows mail now on this computer and somehow have those there. I did not delete them. I guess, in essence I am hoping they still exist "somewhere in cyber space." And if so, how do I set up windows mail now in order to get the same results. I would have to use ypops again I suppose but I am hoping someone has a magic answer.
I would like to know if i lose all my e-mails and contacts and everything i have in my windows mal e-mail, when i format my computer. It is very urgent that i format my computer but i have to be sure i dont lose anything.

I know I can get an external HD to retrieve my photos & files from the computer buit what about my Windows Mail? I had 200-300 emails on it (and no, I didn't save a copy on the server 'cause I didn't know better). View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter doing a ton of updates for my Vista (haven't been able to update for months, but the problem was solved two days ago), it's been freezing up every single time hibernation mode is exited or if the monitor just turns off automatically after X amount of time to save power. After automatically going into hibernation mode/monitor off, I move the mouse, the desktop comes back, and only the mouse is movable, everything else is stuck. Only option is to reboot every time. Have done several virus/other scans with Nod32, Windows Defender, etc., all with negative results. I'm using a Dell 1525 laptop with Windows Vista Basic.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to restart my computer after upgrading my count down meter stops responding at 26 seconds. I will then power off and wait for 50 seconds and restart my computer. Vista Home Premium is my operating system. This started to happen when I installed an external Hard Drive as a back up Disk onto my computer in order to have Windows do a auto back up every week. I do not get any error messages during reboot just freezes up count down. If I disconnect my external Hard Drive everything works just fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to play Age of Empires on Windows Vista. I can load and play the game, but sometimes (Almost always) the entire computer will freeze. I cannot even get back to my desktop using key strokes. I have to hold down the power button to shut the computer down. WHen I re-boot the computer the screen resolution is all messed up because it is still set to the low AOE II screen resolution settings. Is there anything I can do to stop making the computer freeze?

Why would this be? I am forced to press the power button and wait from 5 to 10 minutes to reboot normally. I should mention that one of the accounts is an Imap account. What I am trying to do is delete all the e-mail messages in each account on my old computer so that it is completely clean so I can then give it to my daughter without any of my messages on there.
The first time I deleted all of the emails on my old computer, it also deleted all of them on my new computer as well. How can I keep all of my emails that were transferred to my new computer and delete all of them on my old one without affecting my new computer? Is it a question of deleting each actual account in my old one completely? Or by doing this, will I subsequently delete all of the accounts on the new one as well?
I receive mail on my desktop with Windows XP and Outlook Express. Until recently, I have also been receiving the same mail messages (having been saved on my server) on my laptop running Windows Vista with Windows Mail.
All of a sudden Windows Mail is indicating I have "no new messages" yet my desktop is still receiving new mail.
can both run on one vista computer. Microsoft mail with one email provider (work) and outlook with another(school)? any special setup required. I suppose each will have its own contact manager, but one could be used.

Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I went to my start menu and searched services.msc and checked to see if plug and play, windows audio endpoint builder, and multimedia class scheduler were all set to startup type automatic & all started. they were. so then i go to Windows Audio, right click to properties, and it is stopped. So i click to start it and it says "Windows could not start the Windows Audio service on Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process."
I tried to restore my computer but my restore point is past the point when this issue originated. Also, Conexant Driver is installed and working properly. If I right click on the volume icon with a little red X through it... I can click on Open Volume Mixer, and It says "No Audio Device Installed" Yet, my audio devices are installed.
