I have Vista and am running internet explorer 7 on one computer and it seems to freeze up alot on me when I'm using the internet. I have another computer still running IE6 and Windows XP and I have no problems.
View 9 RepliesI have vista home preium, I just did a upgrade for internet explorer8 yesterday. I thought I liked it but is is frozen. I like opens more than one page and none of them work. I have to go to task manager to close and then when I try again, it freezes. I went in under my sons name and his worked for a few pages and then the same thing happened. Is this a problem with 8? are there any fixes?
View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I was playing Chess Titans, and then I opened up Internet Explorer. Within a few seconds, Vista froze. Couldn't move the mouse, CTRL-ALT-DEL didn't work. A hard reset was required. Now today I was playing Chess Titans, and I tried opening up Internet Explorer. Again, the system froze within a few seconds.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?
Just bought a brand new gateway nv52 with vista home premium x64 and it is constantly crashing like several times a day. I'll be running just a few programs like firefox and windows media player or word processor and the computer will freeze, the sound will take whatever the last little note that came out and stutter repeat it several times and then the entire screen will go completely blank to a dark blue screen.

Eventually all I can do is click the red X then it will offer to restart the program, which is really my only option, and what I have to do. Is there anything I can do? Should I switch to FireFox?

However I have a computer which is almost exactly the same and on mine it does not happen. How can we prevent these windows from popping up when we don't want them to. Is there a tojan or some virus somewhere that causes these windows to load? The computer even has McAfee antivirus software installed. How can I fix this problem besides reinstalling Windows Vista Home Premium from scratch and hoping it fixes the problem?
View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen I attempted to end a non-responsive program (Firefox) I input the Ctrl-Shift-Esc combo to start the Task manager. It did not start. I tried several other techniques to start the task manager with no success. Finally the little icon in the sys tray appeared, but no task manager window. The little graph in the icon, however, was jumping up and down sporadically. I then turned off the computer for the night. Today, I turned on the computer, and at startup Windows gave me one of those Startup disc repair things, and the repair went "successfully". Then, when I next booted the computer, it booted slower than usual, and upon reaching the desktop, simply clicking a single item would cause explorer to freeze up, the task manager still unresponsive to the commands that should bring it forth. Luckily, I had the Windows Vista install disc, so I shut down the pc and booted from the boot disc. It loaded all of the files, but as soon as it got to the boot screen of the install disc, bam, BSOD. What is the deal here? PC is a HP Pavilion with Vista x64 (And an active Norton AV 2009). Sorry can't add more details but the PC is pretty much inaccessable currently.

I would like to be able to use the X32 bit version of IE as my default browser. How can I accomplish this? I have one game provider that runs only on X32 bit, and I would like to be able to download their games. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition X64 bit SP2.

All I have is the basic IE7 with the Yahoo toolbar, latest version. The next time it happens, I will take a SS. I may have to go to FF which is not my preference. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ50 that was just purchased in November. About a week after we got it, I started getting the dreaded blue screen and it kept shutting down on me. Internet would also freeze. Went round and round with tech support, nothing they did ever seemed to fix the problem, but all of the sudden one day after an automatic Windows update, it was working fine. Fast forward a few months. Started getting some random issues over the last several weeks. Blue screen and Internet freezing again, then keyboard and touchpad stopped working. Tech support had me change some configuration settings in the BIOS and it started working again. The a couple days later, I turned on the system one day and was getting the "unable to start" error and it couldn't ever be fixed. Tech Support did a system restore that got me started, but lots of things were disabled that shouldn't have been and we couldn't get the Internet to work, so he recommended I back up and do a system recovery since something was obviously wrong. Did that, worked fine for about a day, then went to turn it on the other day and got the same "unable to start" again.
This time, it was able to fix it and start. The only program I've added since the recovery was a webdesign program. Had it before as well. Thought I was in the clear, but now I keep getting the Blue Screen and it keeps restarting on me. Then today I went to reinstall my printer and it won't install. During the installation, I get an error message, something about 1% not found win32. Sorry, I should have written it down. I called Tech Support again and they wanted me to send it in, but I absolutely can't do that as I run a business and can't be without it that long. So they told me to take it to Best Buy, which I will, but I'd love to be able to figure this out of my own so I don't have to be without my computer for an extended period of time.
I play cs fine for 1-3 minutes then it starts to cut out then comes back on. Does it again a few times then it cut's out completely and the only way to fix it is by disabling the wireless network then enabling it again then starts over cutting out. When i click the repair option - I get this. Which says this when i click "Click for imformation on troubleshooting low wireless signal quality problems
This never happend with the USB wireless stick. With the usb stick it just froze every 60 seconds. Now that i have a pci card i think it's even worse. Can someone try and fix this for me, it's annoying as fuck. Also when gaming i loose connection on me and freeze but everyone else is moving, it's mostly everybody freezing though. and soon im not gonna put up with it and im just going to stop playing. I can't handle this.
I've been running Ultimate x64 and had occasional freezing problems. I'm pretty sure those are related to a memory issue. Normally I just have to hard reset the system and everything is fine. But yesterday I had a lock-up, hard reset and somehow the date was changed to 18 Apr, 2066. I obviously couldn't connect to the internet, so I reset the date to 2009 and restarted. No change.
My software subscriptions think they have expired, and I'm at a complete loss here. I require the internet and that software on that system for work and have no idea what to do. I believe as soon as I get the connection up, my subscriptions will talk to their online server friends and all will be fine (hopefully), so that's why this thread is here.
The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything.
Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
After fighting to get rid of a Trojan horse virus, I am missing the internet browser. E-mail works OK. Clicking 'Internet' icon gets me the message 'Internet Explorer has stopped working:". I tried 'restore' but it is not working either. I get the message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore'. I scanned with AVG and the files it scanned are clean. I have a 'restore' DVD made by the computer vendor but when I stick it in the CD drive nothing happens. The computer is a 1 year old ACER with VISTA home premium preinstalled. How do I proceed from here? I have no idea what to do.

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
When using any icons view in explorer.exe with a folder containing MPEG-2 video clips, and/or having the details pane switched on for such folder, explorer.exe eventually uses up all available memory until windows fail to redraw. Restarting explorer.exe or the computer temporarily fixes this problem until all memory is used up again. The problem can be reproduced with folders containing MPEG-2 clips. Other file types do not seem to trigger this behaviour. Yesterday everything was fine then all of a sudden I could not delete certain files and every time I would open an explorer window another window would open and to finally get to where I want.. I have to open all of these windows very annoying. Also I have never had all the folder options like thumbnail view and so on. Thing is most of this was fine yesterday. I do believe it might have something to do with running CC cleaner because after that all of my setting for explorer were lost. and now I cannot get them back.Then when I tried dragging certain files into other folders I would get a message saying "Target cannot handle this object" I tried in folder options to reset folders also to open folder in same window but nothing. seems Vista is not responding to my requests . I have a UAC tweak installed to minimize vistas requests for confirmation and also had sp1 installed and uninstall ed it but all of this happened before the uninstall of sp1. This started with the cc cleaner so I deleted that don;t trust it anymore seems it has deleted all my vista settings.Also in folder options i do not have the option of viewing thumbnails which is also annoying because I cannot see the photos I want when I want to choose a photo for instance to post on a blog or other.All this is very annoying and the worst of it is that I cannot do a system restore because I have not restore points prior to cc cleaner. shoot what to do?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe symptom of my problem is Vista is telling me that my firewall is not running, but it won't start manually. Also doesn't connect to the internet (I'm using a borrowed machine here) I can see that BFE is not running and that won't start either, says a file is missing. I have tried a system restore to several different points, after quite a few minutes tells me this has failed and the problem is still there. Tried the sfc which said it fixed some files but could not fix all, wasn't obvious to me from the log what it couldn't fix.
In desperation have backed everything up I can find and tried to reinstall (I have a Dell installation disc so no option to repair) This got to the first reboot on expanding files (27%) and then failed and restored back to the original configuration. As you can see I seem to be in big troubles, (started after a Windows Update this morning as far as I can tell, was alright before that)
A freind of mine is having a few problems with her laptop..
She has a link in the start menu that says (internet explorer 64 bit)
This is what she clicks to go on the internet, Now when she visits or clicks on links, she will sometimes get a message that she needs to install flash player.
She already has the latest flash player installed, but apparently this does not work on this "internet explorer 64 bit"
I diden't even know there was a 64 bit internet explorer.
And it goes on to say something like flash player is for 32 bit browsers, for flash player to work on 64 bit browsers search online for help, or it directs you to microsoft help and support.

so i thought i would just ask to see if there is one thing i could follow to fix this problem..
Internet explorer (7) won't run. I found that the IEXPLORER.exe is not in the directory. I have tried to install IE8 but it fails on configuring every time. Same happens when I try to install the cummulative IE7 updates (she's not good at installing updates). Everytime I try any kind of install or update concerned with IE it fails at the configuration phase. Other problems are that she can no longer use windows messenger. This connects but terminates in failure almost instantly.
I've ran a Norton Security scan which has found 144 tracking cookies but nothing more. The fix now button produces fail to lauch link which may well have something to do with the IE problem. Google Chrome is installed and works OK. I don't know what the last good restart point is. I've tried going into the repair feature on windows live essentials through the programs and features in the control panel but I just get a fatal error 0x8007007. Can't even look at internet options in control panel. That won't open either.
Interested to know how many people use IE7?
Looks like readability is very good in IE7 and my favorite font arial appears crisp and clear?
Just curious to hear a feedback on this?
Ive d/led the beta for IE8, dont know whether to insatll or not. What do ppl think of the new browser? What bugs have been encountered?
