The problem i have is when i load windows it comes up fine, but if i open up anything it freezes for 5-6 seonds then does it then freezes again and again i have updated all my drivers, when its been on for say 5-10 mins its fine seems to correspond with the vista update as soon as it pops up saying updates available about 2 mins after that its fine getting to the point where im going to trash it and reload xp
View 4 Repliesthe problem is that it starts ok, goes in windows, and then in maximum 5 minutes it freezes. I have to reset the computer, and then it will go for another 30-40 minutes, when i get a blue screen, telling me something about hardware problems. then it restarts and works fine.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been running a Vista Ultimate 32 SP 1 with 4G RAM for a year now. 3 moths ago after a slew of updates from Vista, at start-up the Mose and Keyboard began freezing. It would happen at the initial boot almost every time. If I hard restarted the machine then it would boot normally and they would not freeze once the system is running though. I thought it may be the latest Nvidia graphic driver ( I have the GT9600 ) so I rolled back to the initial one which was working perfectly. I also updated to SP2.
Whenever I try to load vista it seems to be loading fine, but will stop once the icons start filling the taskbar. Sometimes I can try and run a program, but the start bar will freeze and the program will not load, however most of the time it will just freeze before this. It's taking a really long time to even get onto the desktop screen as well. The computer loads fine in Safe Mode (which is where I am typing this from). I have tried startup repair and it says there are no errors, tried to do a bootlog but I don't know where Windows writes the file to(although from a quick search, it appears it's not much use anyway) and I've tried system restore which completed correctly, but did not solve my problem. I actually had this problem a little while ago, and had to reinstall my system from the Dell backup, however I've just moved into digs at Uni and of course all the stuff I would want to reinstall is at home, not to forget that it takes so long. Spec is: Dell Studio 1555 Laptop, Dual Core T4200 Processor @ 2GHz, 4GB RAM, 512MB ATI mobility Radeon HD 4570, running Vista Home Premium 64Bit on SP2

On saturday I "upgraded" my working 2217 build to build 2705/2815 then there is no audio, and the video freezes at movie startup. I then reinstalled/restored build 2217, and still had a different issue: a message to update, or there would be no Blu-ray playback. The "update" opens up a IE window to download Build 2705. Of course the issue here was If I updated, then I had no audio and the video froze/crashed the player. I figured out how to fix the issue, but I dont know what caused it. Its as if the Player will longer connect and update/authenticate the playback keys, Unless using a newer build, and those newer builds are non-functional/glitchy. I fixed the issue, and now Build 2217 plays all again, but had I not backed up the Cyberlink/Powerdvd folders I would be stuck with a non-functional player.
I suspect the older build upgrade/or no playback message is by design. They want to force updates on those using player builds that can read BD files off the drive, and that use AnyDVD to break the encryption. I tried two Movies; BD Spiderwick and BD Hellboy II. Anybody else try to update their build and have a "no play/no sound issue with newer BD movies? Anyone using PowerDVD Ultra for BD playback, try installing the newer builds and then try to play a June 2008 or newer release BD movie. (just to be safe though, back up the Cyberlink folder, and Powerdvd programs folder for restoration if need be)
My (stock speed) Intel Q9550 @2.83Ghz is running at temps of 105 degrees Celcius or 221 degrees farenheight (for those not from my country) I dont think this is normal, am i right? I think this is the sole reason for my constant computer freezes? Im guessing Im right and I have to get a new CPU fan/heatsink and some top quality thermal paste. I want the absolute best fan solution available with the best thermal paste known...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have successfully been using p2p connections on my previous Windows Vista 32 setup on my laptop, however, since I bought this desktop with 64 bit windows my computer continually locks as I open p2p connections. Included programs which cause the lock are, Azureus, Blizzard Downloader, and Bit Torrent. I believe this may be a port issue. Not sure however. Has anyone had this issue with 64 bit Vista?
The freeze is almost instant as the program opens. Within 5 seconds of opening any of the above programs the comptuer locks/freezes requiring a restart as I can do nothing else. This is why I suspect a port problem; it seems as the firewall opens the p2p port, the computer instantly freezes.
How can brand new computer freeze up sometimes (of course I have a zillion windows at that time), and I think it is slow. Now the person who delivered it put my oold hard drive in it ALSO so that I could transfer the info - would that make a differece. I know they put so much crap on new computers

I'm running Vista Home Premium x64. At least 4-5 times a day my computer completely freezes up and will remain that way until I manually restart it. I've looked at the problem reports and solutions and there seems to be 2 main problems. Most of the errors are under the group called "windows." the Problem event name states there was a blue screen error. I've heard of the blue screen error, but I thought it was odd that my screen didn't actually turn blue. The other problems are under the group "windows explorer." The error name there is "AppHangB1." I have no idea what that means.
Just bought a brand new gateway nv52 with vista home premium x64 and it is constantly crashing like several times a day. I'll be running just a few programs like firefox and windows media player or word processor and the computer will freeze, the sound will take whatever the last little note that came out and stutter repeat it several times and then the entire screen will go completely blank to a dark blue screen.

This only happens the first time each day. It opens instantly for the remainder of the day. I am forced to power off and reboot which can happen 1 to 3 times before Windows Mail will open. I am running Vista with SP1. I have not installed anything new and no settings have been changed.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust got a new HP Pavilion d6500t with installed Vista Ultimate x64. Has been tough going, but was scraping by until today. I installed Quickbooks (via download) and transferred my data files from my old pc to the new pc. Things seemed fine. then BAM!
The screen became "jumpy" and I received a number of error messages. Could not bring up Task Manager, so I had to shut down the pc manually (turned it off). Reboot involved a system check because of the manual shut-down. System check was fine...but, now my pc is frozen on a black screen with the hp logo in the middle. My choices are the usual: Press <ESC> to enable startup message, <F1> to enter System information...etc. I cannot go ANYWHERE from here. The F-keys are not responding AND I cannot even manually shut off the pc! I am a total novice when it comes to pc systems.
Periodically, my Vista SP1 PC freezes up. The mouse vanishes unless you move to to the bottom of the screen where the taskbar is -- and you'll see a spinning blue circle - but no keys or clicks work. Here's the question. When this happens, does manually restarting by holding down the power button damage the computer or performance or reliability of Vista?

1. fix start-up problams (recommended) -or something like that
2. start windows normally
whenever i choose the 1st option it waits 2 seconds and then goes back to that black screen the secont option- it starts loading windows for a long time (about a minut, a minut and a half) and then it gives me a blue screen that says something about problems (i cant read it, becouys it disappears 2 fast-there are percents running down...) and than goes back 2 tha black screen. i pressed some buttons and then it gave me some options , i chose 2 start windows in a safe mode, but -again!!!!-that damn black SCREEN
again, i pressed some buttons and it gave me the same optionsa and i chose to boot windows in a way that it would give me the last document it faild 2 open or something like that (that's what the description said, anyway...). it gave me another blue screen (after he tried starting windows) that gave me some kinda data path and the said: partitons: 2 and then something in '[ ]' and lower it said: enter=submit. esc=cancel. silly of me, i know, but i pressed enter, and it brought me to a blue screen that said: *** STOP: 0X0000005C ( 0X0000010B,0X00000003, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). i run a searc in google and all the people who had this problem said they first tried 2 install a new windows- but i didnt!!! the computer worked just fine, and then it fell from a height of about 4 feet, but it kept working until my sister closed it and the opened again.
the problem is what I start up Combat Arms, I get a brief period of everything on my computer freezing. When I try to goto options if I click any tap or press OK I get a period where my computer just freezes for about 10 mins. I can't Ctrl+Alt+Del or alt+f4 out of it. This also happens when I start a game, not join one but when the actually gameplay starts, and I also get it when die and respawn for about 1-2 mins.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis may be a rather simple question, but... How can I tell when my computer has finished its start-up routines? I used to have IE and OneNote in my StartUp folder. But, my computer seemed to take a long time to start up as compared to when the StartUp folder was empty. Now I just have a text file in it that only has the word "Ready" in it. So, that is when I know that my computer has finished its start-up processes. This is more curiosity than anything else. My computer (Dell Inspiron 1501 running Vista Home Premium) doesn't take that long to start up. I would just like to know when I can start opening apps after I boot up.

I went into the registry and deleted the item from the startup tab and I also disabled it in the startup tab. The startup tab still shows the item even though it is disabled and deleted from the registry. Why does it still show in MSCONFIG and how do I delete it from the start up entry
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and
comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.
The last couple of days I had a few times a startup error. It said something like Windows couldn't start normally. Run Startup Recovery (Recommended) Start Windows Normally. I did the Startup Recovery and then it worked again but the next day or so the same thing, otherwise my system runs fine.

I took the PC home and using my keyboard, mouse and monitor did some maintenance, upped the memory etc and took it back. It still froze at the logo. I replaced the keyboard and mouse and monitor one by one to no avail. Took everything home and it worked as a system, but at his house - still freezes. Is this an electrical problem - if so how could I find out? Their other computer works fine.

I had recently bought a new computer that had came with Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it. I have the computer for maybe about 1-3 weeks, it was doing just fine for what i was wanting it to do. But the past 2 days i would go turn on the computer enter my Password and it would just Hang/Freeze on the welcome screen. I have no problem at all booting up into SafeMode, and can usualy get into my account after having 30 or so attempts if lucky. Its just really frustrating and could some help if possible.

i have a Sony Vaoi VGN-NS11J im not sure if its a 32-bit or 62-bit. one day i was browseing facebook when my computer froze after leaving it for like 30 mins it was still frozen so i had to turn it off by the button and i know that is bad. when i tried to turn it on again it just gave me the options safe mode safe mode with networking and the other safe mode and start windows normally so i just started normally it gets past the vaoi screen and then on the microsoft windows screen it just keeps loading for like 10 minutes then it restarts then it gave me new options start windows normally or launch startup repair so i launch startup repair which takes like 40 minutes just to get to the actually repair place then it gives me no operating system to repair its just blank ive tried all the booting options start from last known good boot or something like that safe mode wont work and when i disable restart when startup fails i get the blue screen of death it gives me this message. A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

I’ve been playing on my computer for a while and have noticed that whenever I play my games, my computer will freeze and hang up after about a couple minutes of playing into the game. The screen will freeze and whatever sound was playing will loop in the background. I cannot ctrl alt del out of the game and my computer requires a hard restart whenever this happens. I have been looking on some forums about this problem with games freezing and supposedly the fix was swapping the different RAM modules. I tried doing that but it still keeps freezing after playing for a bit. I then used Riva Tuner to turn up the fan on my graphics card to 100% but that did not help either. I have the latest drivers for Vista x64 too. I also tried playing the games in Windows XP (I am running both Vista and XP on my system) but the same thing happens. I then started to think if the 500W power supply was too low so we got a new 650W PSU, but haven’t put it in yet.

It's really annoying and I have been trying to fix it for so darn long! (I know how to fix XP's and some Vista problems, but not this! ) So, how can I fix this, I know it's not a display driver or sound driver (uninstalled both, reinstalled).
I am getting tired of having to restart IE7. What is going on with this freezing problem. It started about three or four weeks ago, and hasn't stopped. Seems everytime I access the internet the system freezes up (at least two or three times, each time). I am now running it without any add-ons, and still have the same problem.

I would have posted this in the gaming section but it happens with most if not all of my programs. I have updated my video driver and directx. I have also disabled user account control, and installed SP2.
